    If I already had a CZ I wouldn't shoot a Glock but that's me

Actually I have a plethora of CZ’s, for whatever reason I just decided to shoot a striker fired pistol this year. I’ll never part with my CZ’s, just changing scenery.

I shot a g35 in Production and IDPA SSP/ESP for a while before switching to .40 Tanfoglios. Made GM in Production shooting 40 minor. Over the course of the year you will get some -0s that would wouldn't have otherwise when shooting 9mm too...and the occasional no shoot

Until now I have been shooting CZ for years, the Tanfoglio was in my radar but I went cheap this time around. Slowly working on some .40 minor loads and can already tell I’m really going to like this round in minor PF. The larger hole will also be welcomed. I need all the help I can get lol

    Yes, that will do it.

I know a lot of people who change out the recoil spring in their various Glocks for use in IDPA so that they can adjust the recoil spring weight.  (The Glock 9mms are ridiculously oversprung from the factory.)    For 9mm, a 13# spring is great.  .40.....no idea.  It'll be interesting to see what works best for you and the load you decide to use.

Just picked up the pistol yesterday, got the Jagger guide rod installed and starting with a 15lb spring. Tomorrow I’ll work on a load using the VV N320 until I can locate some Clays powder.

40 minor is really soft shooting.

my 40 minor load out of a P320

    180gr BBI

    3 grains Red Dot

    1.15 oal

    140 pf

Only powder I have on had is N320, I’m going to try that first. I have also read a lot of good things about using Clays as well, kind of hard to find at the moment though.

Unfortunately a non-captive guid rod with a bushing adaptor will bump you out of SSP.

A.1.4 SSP Excluded Modifications (Non-Inclusive list):

A.1.4.5 Slide inserts to accommodate a different recoil assembly design.

I think I found what I need to keep me in SSP, I ordered a Jagger gen5 guide rod. Should be here this week.

  6. Good afternoon everyone, I’m sure this will will end badly for me but that’s just par for course with me lol.
Thinking about purchasing a G22 gen5 for IDPA SSP. I know I know 9mm is where it’s at, but I just want to try something different this year. I will be loading to minor PF and not sure how to tune the recoil spring on these newer captive style guide rods. I’ve seen bushing adapters that allow the use of a standard guide rod, but don’t think this will be legal in SSP. I also read that the gen5’s use a longer guide rod due to the newer lug design on the marksman barrels.
Any suggestions (besides going 9mm lol) on what I need to get and still be SSP legal. Thank you all.

I got the DWX back today and the safety is now perfect.

I can’t wait for the 40 S&W to be released as I must own one.

The DWX is my perfect full-size handgun.

You ain’t the only one patiently waiting lol.

  8. Another suggestion, and you'd be surprised how much girth it can actually add is to try a bicycle tire tube. Cut a small chunk out and stretch it over the entire grip. Sounds silly but it works, even just temporary till you find a more permanent solution. Nice thing is you don't have to make any permanent modifications.

I have five TF plus 3 baseplates that I run on my stock CZ magazines in the TSO (granted, 9mm).  They run flawlessly with the stock spring / follower.  I bought some super de super bigger springs but found out not required.  Sometimes the quest for one more round simply isn't worth the effort IMHO vs. reliability.

Totally agree, and after adding up what this extra round cost me I’m not feeling so well lol. Anyways, just to follow up I ended up with the Grams follower and 11 coil spring kit FKCL-11  and able to get 20 rounds in each mag. No go on 21, maybe after some break in on the springs but I’m happy at 20. Have yet to verify if 20 is reloadable but I believe it will be. There was a note on the grams packaging that the springs were already “tuned” so I installed as is. Hope to do some live firing this weekend and see what happens.
Thank you all for the help and suggestions.

If I were going to make any height adjustments, maybe I would do it with respect to the center of the  A zone

I’ve only competed in 1 match so far and that was last year. Is there a average height the paper targets get set to on regular stages. I see the classifiers use 5’ at the shoulder pretty much standard.

  11. 4 hours ago, Balakay said:

You would not put a 1/6 scaled target 10 inches off the ground.

i use mostly 1/2 and 1/3 scaled targets. I make no adjustments for height

Yeah, I guess my comment about scaling the height was probably not the correct wording lol. What height do you normally use, I picked 5’ because that seems to be the standard for the classifiers. I’m new to both USPSA and dry fire so please be patient with me and the stupid questions.

  12. I just made what i feel is a great investment in some Ben Stoeger books and some of his 1/3 and 1/6 scaled dry fire targets. Reading through his Dryfire reloaded book, I see no mention of target height. I'm all set up in my basement using stands that I made, currently have the shoulders of the 1/3 scaled USPSA targets set at 5 foot just like most of the qualifiers are. This just doesn't look right to me. Is it possible the height is scaled similar to the way the distance is scaled?

Yes, run them in Shadow 2, & SP01, and if it helps Tanfoglio Small frame. However, I have at least a dozen grams followers all running great in CZs and both small and large frame Tanfoglios, 140mm and Taylor F 170 mm extensions with grams followers and the fix is the same no matter what mag or caliber.

Shot many thousands of jam free rounds with this simple fix.

Sounds good, I appreciate your help

With both Henning and Taran 140 mm baseplates mags I get 23 9mm and 17 40sw maybe 18 if I really push.  Basically it adds about 5.

I take it these are standard 75 mags and not TS mags.

The grams follower is obviously smaller to allow for extra rounds, but once the spring is “tuned” there are zero problems.

Basically you have to bend the spring so the follower is angled to prevent it from rotating sideways and jamming up near the joint between the base and mag body. Once done zero issues. Yes I have many Grams followers in both 40 and 9 all functioning perfectly.

    Here’s a couple of pics.

I assumed it was a simple tweak to get the Grams stuff to work properly. Really appreciate the explanation along with the pictures. So the second picture is what i want the follower to look like once properly tweaked? How many rounds are you able to get in the .40 mags and with what baseplates?

I se the cz custome guts and have zero issues. But then again I have the cz custome base pads. I'm sure they'd work in the Taylor one as long as there's no lip to catch on.

That seems to be the way to go, all CZC parts. Unfortunately I have too much invested in these TF baseplates to start all over. How many rounds are you able to squeeze in the mags with your set up, assuming you're using .40

  17. Looking for opinions on a spring and follower kit for a TSO .40 mag. I have 10 mags all set up with Taylor Freelance baseplates and stock guts. In this configuration I can only get 19 rounds in a mag. Hoping for at least 20 rounds (21 would be nice but not holding my breath) 5 of these mags I bought used (with the TF baseplates) and the previous owner was using Grams guts but said he had nothing but problems so installed the stock guts back before selling them to me. Obviously i'm a little hesitant on ordering the Grams kit if this is what I have to look forward to.

CZC offers a spring and follower kit, and I've read several positive things about them but CZC baseplates were also being used. Anyone using the CZC guts with TF baseplates? Is there a trick or tip to get the Grams stuff to work? This rig will be used for USPSA Limited and I'm not worried about last round hold open. Appreciate any suggestions.

My eyes have issues at short distances, I need readers.  I am not looking for holes even though I can see them at medium distances.  My first exposure to shot calling was to “Stop looking for holes”.   As @Sarge mentioned above if you are looking for holes in the targets, it is killing your times.  Learn to work on shot calling early. It's one of the hardest things to do consistently and confidently in USPSA shooting.

As for your question on glasses I use the Yellow Hunter’s Gold and I like them a lot. They make the targets contrast pretty well against the background and the red dot looks crisp using them. The transition component of the lenses is nice and I feel the light is pretty consistent in many environments.

I do not think they are required and if you are buying them to see holes in the targets it's a poor investment. If you are just starting I would think the money is better served on lessons from a competent USPSA (or any dynamic shooting sport) instructor.  Many instructors will touch on shot calling.

I failed to mention that I shoot iron sights.Training with an instructor is something I have been wanting to do, but I’ve yet to come across anyone in my area.

I might as well go ahead and say this before the dogs pile on. If you are looking for hits you are doing it all wrong. Wasted time. If you can see sights clearly just line them up and pull the trigger on your target. Aim at the A zone fire twice and move on.

Search for “calling shots” “shot calling” etc

Thank you Sarge, I’ve heard the term

calling shots but never read into it. I have been focused on accuracy and hoping speed will come later. So far that’s not happening. I feel like for the past 3 years I’ve made no improvements. I’ll start studying up on shot calling.

  20. Good evening, I’m seeking help concerning safety glasses. I shot my first USPSA match Saturday where a  majority of the targets were 12-16 yards out. I was having a hard time seeing my hits on paper targets at the above distances.
Im currently wearing ESS safety glasses with clear lenses. This got me thinking that maybe there is something to these high dollar colored lenses such as Hunters Gold. My question is, would say a colored lens such as the yellow help picking up shots on paper at the longer distances?
I will add, I’m 42 years old admit my arms are too short and reading glasses will be necessary before long. However, past my arms length my vision is fine.

Yes you need to have it engraved. On both of mine, I have my full name, then city, and state. All that’s needed.

mine are located on the inside top of the trigger area.

If the lower receiver is marked multi cal am i also required to engrave the caliber that I listed on the form 1?
