I know this is an old thread, but it provided invaluable information. I recently started moving into 1911 pistols and I had bought a used SA 1911-A1 a few years ago. When I got into the lower I did not understand why it was made in this kludge sort of way. Thanks to ZZT for explaining this. I have some new parts on order now.
