  1. It was a must for me to shoot the pistol/rifle the day before and no shots fired prestart the day of the match.  I wore the same shoes, the same socks, the same under wear, t-shirt, and pants at each match and if I couldn't get that same gear I would sit out the match.  That all started after I DQ'd a match after wearing new shoes, and using my backup pistol instead of running my primary.  I've sat out a few matches after that in my time, so I would take advantage of the time and help out the new shooters for those matches.  Oh... I have a specific playlist as well... 140-160 bpm

  2. I ran my buddy's Hunters Gold for a few matches, I didn't think HD was an actual thing when it came to safety glasses of any type, but I ended up sticking with my military issues Wyle X's and Oakley's simply based on the cost.  The image sharpness was the one thing I was missing the most from the HG's that not even my Oakley's Prisms couldn't even get close to.

After trying a few things I found a simple AIWB holster with a wedge on the back side to be most comfortable.  Then throw on a Snake Eater Tactical IWB mag pouch if I want to carry the extra mag.  Those things should be way more popular than they are.  That set up is a much smaller volume of s#!t stuffed in your waistband.  Your experience may be different though.  I think trying different holsters and getting used to it poking you in new places is just the reality.

I've been thinking about the extra mag ... hmmm ... I'm not saying I am an expert shot, but given where I live I don't think an extra mag would be necessary.  I might need to rethink the extra mag pouch option before I actually buy.  I have several friends who carry appendix with that option, and they say the extra weight of a full 15/17 round magazine is the only negative.  I normally carry OWB higher on my belt with a longer shirt and no extra magazine.  Thanks for your experience :)

  4. You're going to have really nice setup, very similar to my Legion.  I love everything about the 320 Franken builds everyone is working on. I was contemplating doing one of those builds with the 320 XCarry and the Legion TXG.

As my AC Trigger somehow doesn´t want to sit flush in the hole of the FCU, ( like there is tension from the trigger bar, wich wants to pull it out of the hole) it did wear a lot on the contact point over the last 2 month and has a lot of side to side wiggle now. Thats pretty strange.

I ordered a new bar (the old one works fine with GG,Stock and Apex Triggers) and the new slightly curved AC trigger. Hope this one doesn´t have that problem.

It took me a few tries to get everything lined up, but when it did it simply "clicked" into place.  If my memory serves me right, in one of the videos or on one the paperowrk that came with it, the AC was not tested with the GG kit... can't seem to find it again, but none the less everything seems to be running fine with my setup.

Wow!  Arguing about the rules with a couple of people who probably know more about them and how they're applied than you ever will.  And adding insults just because they've attempted to correct your mistaken interpretation.  That's pretty bold.  I'm sure if you put your words into action, you can test it for real life and see how it goes.  Good luck with that.

Zero value to the conversation... move along please ;)

8.2.1, 8.2.2, 8.3.1, and 8.3.8 all make it clear that a shooter comes under RO supervision when the RO commands "make ready" and ceases to be under that same supervision when the RO states "range is clear".

10.5.19 makes it clear that doing ANYTHING other than uncasing or removing a PCC from its conveyance is a DQ unless you do so at the safe area or between make ready and range is clear (RO supervision).

It's very troubling that you choose to ignore the clear rules against unsafe gun handling because you disagree with how they're written.

What else do you let slide?

8.2.1 The firearm is prepared as specified in the written stage briefing and is in compliance with the requirements of the relevant Division.

8.2.2 The competitor assumes the start position as specified in the written stage briefing...

8.3 Range Communication... "The approved range commands and their sequence are as follows:" discussed already, basically discussing Communication, and refers to Written Stage Briefs as well.

10.5.19... refer to the conversation above.

In the best interest of safety, I don't / won't purposefully let anything slide.  Nice try though Schultz ;)

  8. I am merely playing devils advocate for information and educational purposes of course, and I'm sure many of you have taken this opportunity to looked through the rule book regarding everything that has been said.  Simply put, this is good conversation, and that should always be the main purpose.

My PCC is extended and the dot is on well before the match begins, and it stays like that for the duration of the match. Why, because I have had, seen, and heard this conversation at a match, and to eliminate any future issue I simply have it setup like this to avoid conflicts with any staff members... I've seen shooter's lose these battle more often than I have seen them win.  Where we run into issues is when we start interjecting things like IVC said "it is natural to start peeking at the sight to make sure the dot is on..." I mostly agree with you because it does lead to the firearm being pointed in an unsafe direction which would typically not be down range.  I get it, and I agree that would make for unsafe firearms handling and warrant a DQ, but we need to give people the opportunity to succeed before immediately assuming everyone will be unsafe pushing a button or extending a stock.

I read back through this post because it is getting fairly lengthy...  I agree with everyone regarding firearm and shooter safety, I agree that new shooters may need a a helping hand regarding firearm safety and what could happen "if...", seasoned shooters should know the rules fairly well, and common sense is not a super power like many people say it is... sometimes shooters don't think things through all the way cause we weren't paying attention or whatever a persons excuse might be.

    FINAL THOUGHTS... :D

An RO's job is a very stressful one, the RO should always keep the environment as stress free as possible, and shooters should be doing their best to help out as well.

We can argue whether the rule 10.5.19 actually forbids anything beyond muzzle direction, but I would say that the plain reading explicitly forbids gun handling. Am I wrong?

"All other gun handling with the PCC, e.g., sight pictures, turning dots on/off, etc., must be accomplished in a safety area or under the direct supervision of a Range Officer"

The word "or" is used to link alternatives...  This rules allows other options while under the direct supervision of the RO... I go back to my previous input regarding 8.3.1 ... unless it is specifically written in the stage briefs that all manipulation will "only" be done in the safe area or after the "make ready" it's still not a blatant DQ.

IVC, you are reading to reply, and failing to understand the full context of the rule ;) Obviously SGT, Sarge , and I interpret these rules a little different from each other, but nothing directly states that turning a dot on or stock being extended must only be done at a specific area or after a command of make ready.

YOU convinced RM's that certain RO's let authority go to their head? I challenge you to ask any RM or RMI if Kevin Sanders CRO FY64885, aka me, is one of those. Or if I will allow any RO to act like that if I'm running a match. While you are at it ask them what I do if an RO doesn't follow the rules.

Unless of course you actually write that into your stage briefs IAW 8.3.1 ... then, and only then I would agree it is a DQ.  But we all know nobody writes stage briefs to that level of detail.  God only know how many times I’ve been counseled about having too much detail in my stage briefs rofl... it seems I learn something new each time I write them... too much, not enough, so I have accepted I cannot make every shooter happy :D

You have yet to show let alone prove that extending a stock or turning an optic on is grounds for a DQ other than your interpretation... and you wonder why it would be easy to convince range leadership that an RO is letting authority go to their head.  You make it too easy ;)

I don't need your advice on how to run my squad or how to be a range officer.

    Sarge doesn't either.

Well... at least we agree on one thing ;) Be safe gent’s, have fun, and good luck during your matches :)

If you do anything other than take the gun out of the bag and bring it to the starting position before I tell you to make ready I will disqualify you.

You can play range lawyer with the RM.

Oh I have had discussions with many RM’s, CRO’s, GM’s, and shooters in general and I’ve had no problem convincing range leadership that certain RO’s like you and the Sarge let a position of authority go to your head.  Y’all start having a bad day or whatever sets you off, and then you break out the magnifying glass so you can dig deeper into “your understanding” of the rule book.  Again, you both need to stop reading for a response only, and look at the definition of supervision.  As the RO I do not need to hold your hand from the berm or the safe area to have control of what’s going on in the bay or with the squad... simply leave the chamber flag in your PCC while your moving safely with your firearm pointed in a safe direction (normally up) to the start position.  Nowhere does it say in the rule book that extending a stock or pushing a button (or switch) is grounds for DQ prior to the make ready command.  Y’all are seriously acting like the soft spots on an Apple of this sport...

No ... more likely because he's a competent RO who takes the responsibility seriously and understands the rulebook.  Like all us competitors are supposed to, 'y know?

Y'all need to read to understand instead of read to respond... I take all shooting aspect serious, but many of you make the rumors true about the RO's who like the power of "control" ... maybe some of you need to actually look at the definition of supervise.

  15. 3 minutes ago, SGT_Schultz said:

I'd DQ you right then and there if you did that in my squad.

Cause you're obviously one of the over zealous RO's... a microscope give you the "control" that makes you fell good about yourself apparently ;)

  16. We have a couple in our LGS... I was able to fondle it for some time, but it makes me even less of a Glock fan.  It felt very “plastic” but that probably because most Glocks we sell get sent to our back shop for stippling.  It’s definitely one of those relics that can be appreciated for its age though.

  17. I’ve been using Lucas Gun Oil since I found a little 4oz bottle at OReiley’s.... all my guns seem to love it, I don’t need much before it’s spread all over, and it’ll last entire match or range day no issues.  I need to make my way back to get some more.  I run it in all my Legions, Max Michel and Dan Wesson 1911’s, STI’s, rifles, and even run it in my shotgun.

  18. 3 minutes ago, Sarge said:

Well you can’t DQ someone unless you are the RO LOL.

But seriously you should follow the rules as written even if you think they are bogus.
How about this? A very accomplished PCC shooter came to the line last weekend. While standing at the start location with rifle pointed straight up he pulled the flag before “make ready”. I as that really dangerous? No, but he still got DQ’ed.

I RO a lot, way more than I'd like sometimes, but I do follow the rules.  If the shooter is under my direct supervision and safely turns their dot on, then there is no reason to DQ them.  Right?   There are plenty of scenarios we can "what if" to death... what if a shooters shoe comes untied during a CoF, that is a definite safety issue that could cause a tripping hazard, should we DQ them?  C'mon guys, let's get real, we RO because the MD and CRO trust our decisions, our abilities, and know we will provide a safe and fun environment.  Put the microscopes away  ;)

Unfortunately that's a DQ per the rulebook. Common sense need not apply 🙄

"10.5.19 ... All other gun handling with the PCC, e.g., sight pictures, turning dots on/off, etc., must be accomplished in a safety area or  under the direct supervision of a Range Officer."

I'm not DQing someone for turning their dot on especially when I'm the RO ...  there is a big difference between pushing a button and manipulating the device. I've never seen anyone try to get a sight picture anywhere but the CoF or a safe area and many will admit that is because of common sense.    Most of us turn the dot on before the match and leave it on for the entirety anyway.  Common sense applies more often than you think, some shooters should probably apply it a little more, but unfortunately some shooters need rules to keep their center ... ;)

  20. Chamber flag is in, extend the stock, turn the optic on, and safely move to the "hole" position to await my turn.... "common sense" movements is basically how we do it.  If you're going to make any adjustments then shooter know to make their way to the safe zone and adjustment as needed.  I have to agree with the comment above about some over zealous RO's who might let the position go to their head and take advantage of the situation.  We're all here to have fun, improve our skillset (if needed), and enjoy the company of others with similar interests.  All that goes out the door when shooters start using a microscope to interpret rules... similar to a Career Politician ... lol ;)

But my Free Nickel's worth of advice is only worth about $.02 now days :)

  21. I simply remind shooters the longer it takes to reset, the longer it takes to get the next shooter up, and that typically gets enough motivation to get shooter back at it.  We also paste as the RO and Scorer move around the stage, so we only need like 2 pasters at a time to get the job done.  I won't allow the Shooter, On Deck, or In the Hole shooter to partake though.
