  1. I have a vr80 and as long as I do my part ( keep it clean and oiled) use ammo it likes then I expect it to function as reliably as my pistols and rifles.
But it does need to be cleaned more often, in a nutshell I expect it to fire everytime I pull the trigger and do it reliably. It's does as long as my part.
I don't think I would go much past 100 - 150 rounds without cleaning the gas system, I have shot 500 rounds of 00buck with only 3 failures, gun was dirty.

  2. Good afternoon all:

Just getting back on me feet.  I hand my right Knee replacement on March 10.  Just got in under the wire before elective surgeries were canceled in York, Pa.
Jut put the walker aside and now I am on  cane.  Rehab is progressing well.

Back to my VR-80 all is good  just "SOAKED the area with brake cleaner and  WD-40 good idea thanks parvusimperator and Nelsonh all is good now.

Thanks for your help and looking forward to more information on this site.
Great glad to hear it and I will keep you in our prayers for a speedy recovery.

  3.
Sorry. Misunderstood your message. I thought you were thinking about it.

Or were you commenting on this "I wish the Turks would of made something on this shotgun to AR-spec. [emoji1]"
Yes wish the Turks would have made it more ar compatable.

  4. Another mod I did was cut the tail off the disconnector as it was setup just like a m16 disconnector and I just wasn't comfortable with this in my gun, there is no need for the tail on a semi auto ar style gun.
May just be me being overly cautious but I in no way want to run afoul of the laws do the tail is chopped.

  5. If I can find it I used to have one of the at bianary triggers, may more the hammer and disconnector to work in the VR and see what that's like with this light recoil lol.

Oh the at hammer is to short and not wife enough to teach the firing pin and the disconnector will hit the hammer before cocking. Can probably just modify the hammer just above the disconnector hook and it should work just fine in the vr80

  6. Ok took just a little over 3 1/2 oz off the weight and now cycled supremo 00 buck 9 pellet 3010 fps smooth as butter. Just fired 30 rounds from the drum and all perfect, even locked the bolt on empty mag.
    Think I'll stop right there.
Boy this gun is fun, now to find some anti walk pins to replace that stupid splined hammer pin.

  7. If I had a lathe I would. I don't do I went the route I did and will test and remove till I get we're I like. It was softer than a 556 with 00 buck at 1345 fps but a little touch weight to fully eject and pickup another shell. Shouldn't be to hard to hit the target, going to get at least 1300 fps for sure and may possibly go down to 1200 but no lower for what I want.

  8. Ok it seems that adding weight to the buffer does decrease felt recoil a lot but can make the gun finicky.
What I did was weld a 8 ox pice of metal to the carrier (forgot to account for the weld) so now my gun won't cycle 00buckdhot at 1345 fps.
I'll start trimming and weighing till I get to what I want to shoot

  9.
Mid barrel comp works better with longer barrel shotguns then a muzzlebrake because of the gas pressure differential in different parts of the barrel.
Using both to capture all the gas available is not wrong in my opinion.
I have my own mid barrel comp that works well, but i will probably redesign it according to the barrel area i have to work with.
What size holes do you use for porting? And how many?
Does it cause any issues with the plastic wadding?

  10. Boy howdy, I'm late to this party. I just picked up a VR80 (also my first semi-auto shotgun) and I'm looking for a little guidance on:

    • Break-in procedure
    • Cleaning
    • Ammo preferences
    • When to use the "heavy load" vs "light load" gas ring

The manual is a little... wanting.

Is there a good "starter" thread for these guns? I'm sure there's a ton of info here but it's a little hard to extract from 59 pages and counting. Thanks!
This is what RIA sent me. And the last guy I talked to said only use the heavy piston for 3 inch shells. Had one rep to tell me to break it in with the heavy piston and that was a lot of work - big old single shot.e74d706c1779f6b2912e2406b1e5ba10.jpg

  11. Good evening all:

New to the forum here.  Looking forward to the exchange of ideas and information.

I just got a VR-80 and cleaned it before shooting.  I used the ammo  that is on the Rock Island site.  Fiocchi  12 gage 2 3/4",  1 1/4 oz.  1330 FPS,   7.5 shot, and (250 rounds)  the weapon preformed flawlessly.     Broke the weapon down for cleaning and all went good except: the GAS RETAINING NUT (part number 70) unscrewed with no issue and then unable to remove the GAS BLOCK (part number 68) is stuck in place.   Any ideas for my situation  ??????????????

    Did you get it apart?

  12. I have seen a few folks looking for m- loks to work with the vm80 and just wanted to point out the standard m- loks work but every brand I have tried you do have to cut them down a little to clear the piston setup.
You file the tabs and the screws. I had plenty of metal to hold the rails/accessory's on mine. Close fit but does work with a little elbow grease.

  13. So I was thinking...I’ve got an 11/16 deep well socket that’s the same od as the fat part of a buffer weight. The original buffer slides inside the socket, resting against the shoulder, and the spring rests against the bottom of the socket. You’d end up adding about an inch of spring to the overall length in stock configuration. It’s ads instant weight but not more than a rifle length buffer. If I wasn’t going out of town I’d give it a try this weekend. Easy way to test the added weight theory. Now let all the “OMG don’t do that” people chime in... I think it’s worth a try, but maybe not for everyone. I’m going to see if the taccom buffer fits in the socket the same
If in doubt tie a string around the trigger and get behind a tree.
