That happened a lot with PCC shooters that came from actual rifle and 2 gun backgrounds. They shot great but reloads weren’t a strong part of their game.
It’s disproportionately represented in classification.
I don’t expect stand and shoot core skills to necessarily translate directly into match performance. There’s just so much more to the sport.
As long as classification is loosely proportional, it doesn’t bother me. It can’t be all things to all people.
I’m sympathetic to your example, but the local shooter you described doesn’t exist.
There were three Ms in the top 20 of CO last year, two of whom are national champions in other divisions.
There was one M in the top 20 at CO nationals in 2022 (who was not in the top 20 last year).
There is as one M in the top 20 at CO nationals in 2021 (who is now a G and was 59th last year).
If you go back to 2020 and years earlier, the field is so scattered and weak as to be non comparable. Top 20 in 2019 was 80%, ~90th last year.

I have a Girsan 2311, and like the one you tested the trigger was unusable. I fit an MPA aluminum grip and dropped in EGW parts, and it’s now a functional basic 2011-like gun. I do not believe the Tisas is made by the same company — the frame for the Tisas 2011-a-like is steel, and the small parts are different. The cast Girsan parts seemed particularly brittle, and the frame rapidly wore from the replacement steel safeties I fit. I expect the Girsan will not hold up. I have marginally higher expectations for the Tisas. -
So far I’ve shot using my unaltered CO guns. I have a few slide ride 2011s, but until LO consolidates as the more competitive division I’ll stay with one type of gun for the most part.

I’ve been struggling to come up with an analogy to counteract this line of thinking, something about a owning a Volvo station wagon, a Ford Pinto, and a BMW M series, and planning to shred the upholstery on the BMW, over-inflate the tires, and slap a governor on it, so that you will drive your Pinto more. -
My reasoned estimate is between two weeks and forty years.

PCC, in this instance, could start facing uprange, with the muzzle not uprange, as long as the stock is touching belt. It would be weird, but allowable.

*I assumed, perhaps erroneously, USPSA. For IPSC you must start facing down range, standing erect, hands relaxed at sides, unless prescribed differently in the WSB. (8.2.2 in the current rules edition).

If the WSB doesn’t prescribe a direction you are free to start facing any which way, with obvious risks about uprange draws.
(8.2.2.1 for direction, 10.5.16 for uprange draw). For PCC shooters, they cannot be *required* to start facing uprange.

There is nowhere to reload on that stage that doesn’t cost time. You can move between the back right target into m the inside middle in less than a second, and transition from the far right middle target directly to the far left open in <.60. To be fully competitive in CO (or now LO) you cannot try to hide a reload. I have not seen any limited major gun run the top end CO times for that stage (because of the reload). This fact is reflected in the higher HHF for CO vs Limited, since a red dot confers negligible advantages on 4 yard targets, and the 4 no shoot partials should reward major scoring.
I realize in the 2021 nationals many folks took a more conservative approach, but there is no “free” reload. (I don’t think there is ever is — having to reload when someone else doesn’t always has a marginal cost associated with it, if only from fracturing attention for a moment, although that’s another argument).

On a side note. It is interesting to see the person promoting and pushing an alternative competition league/sport is still shooting the USPSA nationals... Why do that if USPSA is that bas as a sport? Or if it is not bad - why do we need another sport?
I can’t claim to speak for anyone else’s motives, but my understanding is Max Leograndis, who you are referencing, approached USPSA leadership repeatedly with proposals to make USPSA multi gun a) HF based and b) appealing to the splintered multi gun competitive pool. The leadership response was, “if you don’t like it start your own,” and so eventually he did.Other than defending his title here and at a couple other key matches, it looks like his USPSA participation has been at a minimum for a couple of years. In that he’s not unlike the reigning revolver national champion, who shoots 1-2 matches a year, at most.
Or several former national champions who shoot weekly outlaw matches but 2-3 sanctioned matches a year.
I agree it’s a problem. I disagree that it’s highly accomplished shooters who are to blame.

For LO, unless more registrants change, I see KC winning and someone like Matt Hemple just outside 5%, Max Leograndis could be there too. Good open shooters like Patches Reeder, David Lyell, Sammy Nelson or Eric Steiner could be close behind. I’d be shocked if Cory K broke low 80s%, which would be a record finish for him in a handgun match with top shooters.

Weird to miss Joey Sauerland when he’s won 11 level 2s and 3s this year, falling to 4th in one (Dragon’s Cup), and 2nd in another (Area 3). He’s my presumptive favorite for Limited.

this is m-arms claim to fame with their Kratos (1911-like, not legal in SS) gun. I watched them swap slides and frames on demo guns and the fit was indistinguishable. Their 2011-alike guns are currently being imported, and expect boutique hand fit prices for essentially the opposite approach.
gorgeous guns though, with some really smart machining innovations.

I’m curious when the first time the winner of LO will beat the winner of CO — someone like Herron would be lucky to be 85% in the combined, but at some point a genuinely good shooter will contest a match in LO, and I think that’s when the flood will begin.

I was pretty excited for this match. I have to say I find the posted stages very alarming. 3/13 VC. A 3 per stage with a headbox only target (staff will be changing that twice per squad as pasters get pulled through the gaping holes, better hope it doesn’t rain). Generally gimicky start positions for multiple stages that depress hit factor globally, but don’t allow for much skill separation. Non contiguous shooting areas on multiple stages.
I know match books are only loose concepts, but I’m considerably less excited about attending this match now. I suspect that many of the stages were designed by a relatively novice stage designer.
I hope that the design concepts of the stages undergo productive evolutions as they hit the ground!

The President is now just an at large member of the board, not beholden to an area. Other than writing an intro to the magazine and serving as the nominal MD for nationals, they have no role.
We have seesawed from a very strong executive to no *directly accountable* executive at all. A Director who serves at the Board’s pleasure has all the day-to-day responsibilities, and the Board reserves all real decision-making authority.
If you like the recent series of decisions, I’m sure you’ll love this state of affairs. For the rest of us it means actual years to even start righting the ship, when the full board turns over.

there’s a few really good arguments against term limits. One of the most persuasive is that hard won expertise is lost when a person vacates the position, and at best the new officeholder is forced to learn it for themselves. Another is that you deincentivize long-term planning that stretches beyond time in office. Thankfully few of these arguments really apply to USPSA. The staggered terms of the board helps ensure organizational continuity. We are exactly the sort of body that would benefit from rotating leadership exercised with a light touch. Prohibiting consecutive terms could keep the board close to the membership. -
Well the HHF are out, and they appear to have largely just averaged open, co and limited.
Which means, somehow, that LO has a *lower* HHF on 22-05 than CO. Because as we all know, SAO and a magwell makes a fixed time stage with mandatory reloads harder…

I really enjoyed production when I shot it and there was a deep and wide talent pool. I set up a new single stack rig this year, with a commitment to shoot 1-2 majors in single stack.
But generally, nothing can get me (or people like me) to shoot low cap. I have limited match availability. Maybe 7-8 locals a year if I’m lucky. Every major but two involves significant travel. Hard to commit to that to dabble in a low population low competition division.

Well we are on HHF for things, 22-06 is criminally low, as are most speed shoots where the HHF is set at a nationals. The fastest time in any handgun division was 2.43 at open nationals. Since it’s been live, I’ve seen low 2s across pistol divisions, including production. 22-06 is going to race to the top of broken classifier charts with its buddy 9-09. With that in mind, we should set LO HHF off Revo to drive participation in the division.
