  1. VV 3N38, N105, Maybe N350?

Like most said here, it's not a common bullet weight for open but I have heard/seen people use it in Open.

    38 super or 9? major/minor?

I would keep an eye on excessive pressure signs just to be safe.

    Best of luck

    1) How long did you shoot irons before "graduating" to an open gun?

    2) Do you believe it's important to shoot iron sights before moving to a red dot?
    3) Are red dots on open guns (mounted to the frame) easier for someone with cross dominant eyes to shoot?
    4) How much softer shooting are these? I'm also a small guy with small hands and struggling with a tennis

elbow that flares up from gripping a gun HARD for long periods of time (I'm right handed and the TE is in my left elbow)
-I just installed a Nitro Fin on my SP-01 and it helped ALOT with the elbow.

Before I start, I advice you to see an optometrist with some experience with shooting sports. Reason being is some of the top shooters in these sports are X-eye dominant and they dominate the sport in one form or the other by adapting to their 'situation'. Anything that can be corrected vision-wise can help with your visual longevity and contribute to your performance.

    1) I started irons (Limited/Standard div.) for close to 2 years before building and shooting an open gun.

    2) There are benefits to irons, particularly in visual patience (sight picture) and follow through.  I find it easier to align dot -> target vs. front/rear sight -> target. Of course, fundamentals of shooting like stance, grip, trigger control, etc., are as important as well and can affect visual input.

    3) Mine has been frame-mounted. Most if not all open guns I've seen and used have this for reliability. Slide mounted optics take harder beating and can have issues along the way, especially with major PF.

    4) Open guns are loaded with higher pressure, hence tend to be have perceived recoil than non-comped guns. For major PF, you are looking at 1300-1400ish fps. If you are using minor PF, it may not end as harsh. There are ways to mitigate perceived recoil, i.e., compensator selection, ammo selection, spring tweaks, etc. A good shooting fundamentals can also help(stance,grip,etc.). I'm small to so I have to find and tweak my grip setup.

Open is fun and have shot it for most of my USPSA/IPSC experience. Don't be afraid to try as most of us here that have gone to the dark side and loved it.

    Best of luck!

  3. In my short time shooting PCC, I have settled on using Blitz with .308 spring in my JP rifle. At first, it was obvious the felt recoil is more manageable than the silent capture buffer that the rifle came with. However, I noticed the consistency of the recoil impulse varies every so often, some shots felt cycling longer than other. Someone suggested short-stroking the buffer. I added a ~1/4" rubber bump at the other end of the spring opposite the Blitz. The results are more consistent, shot-to-shot, impulse.

In the end, I decided to tame the recoil impulse and maintain visual consistency. My advice is to try within reasonable (and safe) means and decided if it's worth the effort. Will it improve your game or will it be just another technical feature in your equipment? Hope this helps.

@edwin garcia interested in the details

I used a 3/4" wide aluminum bar stock as the material for the extended paddle. Paddle has an inverted 'L' shape. Had to drill/tap the mag button to attach the paddle, i think i used 2, 8/32" X 1/2" aluminum machine screw. I may have built 4 prototypes to finally match the reach of my thumb without interfering with the other controls. One of the prototypes was short and took extra effort to reach. The current one is spot on.

I use radian raptor ambi charging handle.

I missed that,  Need to dig out that issue and give it a read.  Before I head to the range I think I'll load up some 125 coated RN with 3.7 N320 and see what that does.

    Thanks.

I did notice this. My initial load was 3.8 gr VV320, on a 16" (130ish PF). I was happy with it but decided to push it a bit, I am now at 4.5gr VV320/OAL1.12" (140ish PF). Used it in my last match and I am pleasantly surprised with the dot movement and impulse. I personally felt the higher load tends to recover the dot quicker, while the lighter load felt sluggish. For me, it's the combination of the bolt cycling and the visual feedback that was noticeable. I am in no way at the top of PCC world, it's just a distinct observation that I encountered. YMMV. Thanks..

  6. I've been recently playing with hs503c and noticed I prefer it closer to the stock. I have old eyes, but still do not need Rx when shooting. What I noticed is it gives me a wider field of view within the tube as compared to it being mounted forward. The size and clarity of the dot does not seem to have noticeable effect, when mounted near or far.  I've only shot a few hundred rounds so it's still in the early stage. I just want to pitch in my experience. Hope it helps.

  7. USPSA, no matter what div you are shooting requires efficiency of movement. Not just moving from position to position but also from target->target. Double taps can be deceiving to a lot of people. As an old timer, I would emphasize the importance of 2 controlled alphas, regardless of target presentation(distance, difficulty, angle, etc.).

I am yet to shoot PCC, and I'm pretty sure there will be quite a learning curve. I do however, believe there will still be carry-over skills and knowledge from my past pistol experience. One of them is to know when to balance points versus speed. Knowing your skill level vs. the stage. When to push it and not risk too much. You will also need to understand how to mentally estimate hit factors as a tool to develop match strategy.

These things can take time to develop and constant training usually speeds things up. It's a fun sport and PCC is a fun division and I look forward to experiencing it myself. Best of luck.

  8. Love MGs but if you are shooting your MGs in glocks in below1300fps (give or take), you may want to look at more affordable alternatives (from lead to plated).

I use Rainier Ballistics' 124gr plated and 147 gr coated BBI in my production set-up. they both work like a champ. YMMV.

  9. See there is a new version of PS for iOS and in the What's New Section on iTunes it mentions "added a registration download option from clubs.practiscore.com", interesting.

Yes - this is a new feature we've put in for those who pre-register on clubs.practiscore.com. For instance, I just snatched down 450+ shooters for Area 1 with a button click.

It will be part of the beta test for practiscore.com we will release after A1 this week.

I will be consumed with that match this week, so slow responses here. (-:

That's very exciting. Can't wait to see this feature!
