Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. On this subject. I have a problem with my weak hand thumb touching my slide release, preventing slide lock at the end of a magazine. I asked a few old hands for help and they said to point the thumb but not touch the slide with it. However when I do that, I feel like I have less control of the gun. It feels horrible to me. shooting a 1911 btw. Any suggestions?
  2. You gentlemen are a true fountain of knowledge thanks much for the replys.
  3. Hey guys, Anyone ever tried using different brand magazines in a 22 conversion kit? I am getting a marvel brand and am wondering if the advantage arms or kimber or sti mags would work in it. thanks PD
  4. So I bent the extractor a teeny bit in toward the rim. Went back to the range and gave it a run. Ran a couple mags and started repeating error. I was shooting 6 steel plates for time and while removing the partial mag I noticed the top shell was moved forward in the magazine. Saw it a couple times and a little light went off in my head. So I took a bit more time while filling my mags and made absolutely sure the rounds were all the way back in the mag. not 99.9% I made SURE they were 100%. And the problem seems to have gone away. More trips to the range before I am sure, but it seems to be operator error Thanks for your input guys. I feel like a big ole noob. I can't say I loaded this any different than I have loaded any other pistol I own. But it seems to be critical that the ammo is fully seated.
  5. oops. factory winchester white box and some olympic cheap stuff. All ball ammo. Does the same issue either way.
  6. I have a kimber aegis 9mm internal extractor. Started to fail to eject about once per mag after I had shot it perhaps 400 rounds. It would pull the case back part way then leave it still in the chamber a bit. Then it would try to shove a new one in on it. So brought it home and cleaned it very well. Went back to the range. First 3 mags ran fine. Then started to get the same jamb once per mag or so. By the 7th or 8th mag its happening twice per mag. I know I can send it back to Big K for repairs but thought some of you knowledgeable gentlemen might have a suggestion for me. Thanks Bill
  7. LOL thats my regular idpa gun. I been shooting matches with a bug gun.... no wonder I can't hit the broadside of a barn.
  8. 5 inch. kimber tactical. pretty much the way I bought it. I did replace the recoil spring at one point. I think I saved the old one and I will try that. No buffer. mags are a mixture of ed browns and kimber factory.
  9. Hey guys. I have a 1911 45 that fails to feed the last round in a mag. It happens about 50% of the time and doesnt seem to be only one mag. I have changed the springs in all my mags and it still has the same problem. When it sticks the round tip is too high and the rim is too low. Usually the rim is touching the face but looks like it didnt come up all the way into the extractor (kimber external ext.) I can usually ease back on the slide and the rear of the round will pop up, and I can let go and it slides all the way in fine then. Wondering what the most common cause of this problem is and if I can fix it myself at home. thanks for your help! Bill
  10. So. I am sitting with SA 1911 Or CZ. or Sti trojan? Still looking for other options! Want to give them all consideration before I buy. Must admit I am worried about function on 9mm 1911s. ps. for the guys who wonder about the thumb saftey. I like em. They make me feel warm and fuzzy. I am a worrier by nature. The thumb safety doesn't prevent Accidental discharges... it prevents worrying about them for me. Like Sun Tzu... know your enemy and know yourself... wait were gonna have to move this to the Zen forum.
  11. With ammo prices thru the roof. I have decided to sell my 1911 45 and buy something new. Would like to hear suggestions from you! I am buying a new gun for idpa and general shooting. My basic want list is semi auto. 9mm. with a thumb safety. budget up to 1000 bucks. What would you pick within those basic rules? thanks!
  12. thanks for the help guys.
  13. I am looking for some info on using a flashlight for idpa competition. What is the standard way of holding the gun/light assuming the light is seperate(not attached to the gun). Thanks for your help.
