Fiochi, Sellier and Bellot, Aguila and Magtech were the four brands that I got positive responses back from for
being safe to use in ported or compensated barrels. American Eagle did as well, but they are more expensive and I see no difference in accuracy/clean burn etc using AE over the other brands I mentioned.
Brands to stay away from that' I've heard back from so far
Blazer (although I do shoot Blazer brass 124gr through my ported 9L quite a bit, but I do see shreds on my support arm when I do and it gets the ports really black)
Lawman, Arsmcor, and Federal Premium

hey guys a new member on this board with a question, I'm just getting into this "competitive" shooting , going to start with steel plate
and I notice a lot of you are doing your own reloads. why? is it a cost factor or is it that you can't find an off the shelve round that works perfectly for you?
I've been shooting a lot of S&B 115gr & 124gr and Fiocchi 115gr with my M&P 9L and both rounds seem to hit pretty much where I put them consistently.
at $189.00 a case shipped is it that much cheaper to reload 9mm yourself? or again is it finding a weight that works best for you that you can't get
"off the shelf"?

I took possession of a brand new "ordered" M&P 9L with the shield mini sight 4MOA already installed August 5th.
I got it all dialed in about a week and a 1/2 ago so it was perfect at 50 feet.
Yesterday it just shut off while I was at the range (getting ready for my first possible Steel plate "practice" this week)
So I took it home and dropped in a fresh battery. It went back on , so I thought 'great", but as soon as I started to tighten down the lugs it shut off. I went
through this about 5 or 6 times and could not get it to stay on. the battery that I took out of it was also still good
I'm really bummed , I have put about 900 rounds through his thing since I got it, and the trigger was lightening up a bit
and I was just "getting dialed in with it", and this thing just stops working correctly. As long as there is no pressure against
the bottom of the unit it will stay on , so something is wrong with it. If I put it on it's plate I can squeeze down on
the back of the unit just using my hands and it shuts off.. Shield is in England so god knows how long it will take to get a new one
so I ordered a vortex Venom off of Amazon this morning. I needed one for my Ruger mark III anyway so I will just throw this on
until gt my Shield sight back.
The shield (up until it died) was fantastic. The 4MOA is really easy to pick up, it sits super low so you can easily co -witness your front sight
(I have the tall suppressor sights on mine).
Anyone have a Vortex on their M&P? I understand you can't co -witness with it so I will have to do lower 1/3 with the Vortex?

I use th eSSp top focals a swell. they actually release a lense with the magnifier on the bottom as well so you can mix and match if need be .
I wear readers (1.5) so they work for me. I can't use them with the red dot tough , it blurs the dot LOL!

I've my M&P too. Before I reloaded I shot around 9000 Magtech 115 grain FMJ. Since then I have several thousand more rounds of plated bullets. Now playing with coated lead. I have had no problems with the barrel. Magtech has never had a malfunction in my M&P it was an excellent factory ammo.
several other people have suggested MAgtech to me as well. I had some issues with their 115gr with my shield (FTF)
but I guess I should try some with this larger gun. I have historically shot 124gr out of my compacts , I wonder if I'd be liking
115 gr more out of a ported 5" barrel.
Sellier and Bellot is another brand that has been mentioned to me. A rep from Fiocchi is checking for me with their ammo

Nice. What red dot are you running?
As for loads, most of what I shoot are my reloads. My local stores carry American eagle so if I have to buy any, it is usually that.
I got the PC core with the SHIELD SIGHTS SMS-4MOA MiniSight already installed
It seems to be pretty good so far, I'd like to play around with the Burris fast fire and the vortex venom
to see if there is any discernable difference, but this is really my first foray into using these things.
A friend at the club has a Ruger Mark III with a red dot on it and I shot the hell out of it a couple of weeks ago and decided "I need one" for myself

So far I'm loving it, I just about have the Red dot dialed in .
at 25 feet shooting pretty quickly, I emptied a mag and a 1/2.
Easily the best I've ever shot (any gun) in my entire life.
that was after about 150 rounds on Saturday (when I got it) and another 100 on sunday (yes I went a little nuts :))
I'm wondering what ammo to use though. I was using Blazer Brass 124 (here in this pic I was using American Eagle 124).
I also tried lawman 124gr and some Fiocchi 124. I also had a box of Geco 115 but I had a couple of FTF's with it so I punted on it.
i was surprised to discover that Blazer, and Lawman is copper plated ammo and you shouldn't use it in ported barrels.
I'm not sure about American Eagle yet, the Federal standard is also a no no.
what ammo are you guys using ? (I don't have time to reload my own so I need some "off the shelve")
I'm hoping someone is still making "real" fully Jacketed rounds.
Anyone?

I just picked up an M&P performance center 5" ported 9L today and got it with the SHIELD SIGHTS SMS-4MOA MiniSight
already installed on it.
I don't quite have it dialed in perfectly yet but so far no complaints. I can co witness with the stock sights on here easily,
so far so good

Hey all, new guy from mass, I found this site as I was researching some Accuracy issues with the M&P PC ported 9L's.
I've been shooting for a couple of years now and I decided I want to get into some competitive shooting.
Getting Competition guns in Mass is tough but a relative of a friend hooked me up with a new M&P PC Core 9L
with the optic already installed. should be here in about a week so I'm very excited. Seems to be quite a bit of useful info on this site so hopefully I
will be able to contribute some as well.

welcome! and yes our state is not very "shooter friendly" but there are a good amount of clubs that are
starting to get involved with competitive shoots.
