  1. Hey :o the dead line for ivitations to MT is Monday ! as is this coming Monday

Just put my pack in over night to Nat

    JF

I'm going at lunch to overnight mine, but the only address I can find is PO Box 811 - is that the correct address? I didn't think I could FedEx anything to a PO Box, what address did you use?

    rks

Nevermind, USPS delivers "overnight" to PO boxes - except in this case "overnight" means Monday... WhatEVER. Gotta love the USPS.

This will be my first Nationals, I'm really looking forward to it!

  3. I'll second that - we are a new-ish club, and I've never had to do a correction before last month. I turned in 4 corrections that took me hardly any time to do, and they've already been picked up and processed. Pretty slick, thanks guys!

  4. Derrick,

Did you get my last PM about directions to the club? Check out okcgunclub.org for a pretty good map. Hopefully we'll see you and Dave up at the club this Saturday.

    Mike

I did - thank you Mike! If you really want some entertainment, we'll drag Rhonda up this weekend as well.... She loves the cold. B)

Still up in the air if I'm coming up. If the weather looks sucky, I'm dry firing at home.

Umm, how 'bout you just call me when it gets warm again, whenever THAT may be. I do want to shoot some 3-gun soon though - I've been talking to Dave about what kind of shotgun I should get. B) You know, one where I can shoot with both feet on the ground would be nice...

  5. I don't know if I could make it out there for the class, but I do know that the class they taught here in the Dallas area earlier this year was well worth the money (even in the rain...). If you've got the chance to take their class, jump on it - you won't regret it. And besides, they're both SUPER nice guys in addition to being top-notch instructors.

  6. Welcome to the shooting world! Glad to have you here on these forums too, you'll find a lot of great information here. I started out shooting production with a Blade-tech offset-drop (~5 years ago), then switched to a comp-tac locking paddle (www.comp-tac.com) - Gregg will make you a "Diva" model that has a great offset-drop for us ladies who are - umm - curvy... ;-) To me it seems a lot more stable than the Blade-tech, with less flopping around. And a huge +1 to the low-rise pants, they are a must. Good luck!

  7. What kind of gun are you shooting. I bet either I or someone else will have holsters and mag pouches to fit it. bring about 100 rounds or more of ammo and come play with us tonight. We are a friendly bunch and very welcoming to new shooters. Do go buy crap that doesnt work and then have to replace it. come try out our stuff and see what works for you and then go make a purchase.

Just ask for Dave (me) or Darin (BigD)

I have a Ruger P-90. I was intending to come April 26th but I have had to work late every night since then. I am going to try to get out there on May 24th.

I was looking at the schedule on the Dallas IDPA site it looks like you guys do not have a shoot this weekend? (May 20th and 21st)

    Hi Mangahunterd,

We are having a match on Sunday the 21st, hammer down at 10am but try to be there by about 9:15 or so and we can get you through the new shooters' intro and geared up in plenty of time. Please let me know where you were looking on the DIDPA site that said there was no match this weekend, and I'll go fix it.

Here is a nice synopsis of matches in the general North TX area: http://www.dfwshooters.org/schedule.htm

It needs to be corrected for the Sunday Collin County IDPA matches, which I believe are now held in Greenville, but other than that you get the idea - as always, check the individual club websites before heading out to a match just in case. There is also a steel match out at Dallas Pistol Club on the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month. Hope to see you out at the range soon.

  8. For today I put the old firing pin back in. Dawson hasn't answered me back yet about the spring, and I don't have a spare (yet).

Thanks Harmon, I'd love to try them. Where do you get Power Pistol? I've seen 7625 and HS6 in Sportsman's Warehouse, but not Power Pistol.

  9. OK, I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd ask here too. Looks like the firing pin spring doesn't sit up as high on the Dawson firing pin as my stock one, so it won't compress enough for me to get the firing pin plate back on. I made sure (without the spring) that the new pin fits through the firing pin hole, so I think it is the spring. In another thread I found someone talking about cutting "a little" off the firing pin spring - anybody have an idea how much "a little" is, or if I should try something else before cutting?

  10. I'm having this same problem right now - just got my Dawson Hyper Drive extended firing pin today, tried to install it, but I think the spring is stopping it. Without the spring the firing pin fits through the firing pin hole just fine. Exactly how much is "a little bit" that can be trimmed off the spring?

    thanks

  11. It's hard to tell from the pics, but are the primers on A and B bubbled up, that's why the strike is off center? Guess it's a good thing I'm asking about this...

I ran 2 of the 8.4 loads through the chrono, they were at about 1450 - way too much. I've heard the goal for 9mm with a 125gr bullet is 170 pf, so that's what I'm working towards.

I'll let you know how it goes this weekend. Thanks!

  12. Cases can be identified from left to right. (A -E)

E being the Winchester SR primer. The rest are Fed SR.

Very interesting, thanks! Just to clarify, the pic you posted is of "acceptable" primers, right? As you mentioned earlier, the edges of the primers are still round - although it looks like the WSR has flattened more than the others. And the firing pin strike is much more pronounced than mine, I assume due to the extended firing pin? (BTW, I have a Dawson Hyper Drive on the way...) I did manage to take a better pic of my brass:

    post-6531-1147316117_thumb.jpg

I'm inclined to believe that there may have been something else wrong with the load that blew the jacket off other than it just being too hot - bad crimp or bad bullet? It was 8.4gr of 3N37 at an OAL of 1.170, only .4 gr more than what I shot all last Saturday, and this actually happened on the 2nd round I fired. I'm not sure we looked for that particular piece of brass, we were too busy trying to figure out if my gun was still functioning.

    post-6531-1147316280_thumb.jpg

I'll post an update after I try out the new firing pin. I'm going back to 7.8 gr of N350, since that is what my gunsmith recommended to begin with, and start over from there.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the feedback.

  13. Thanks everyone for the responses - no, I don't have an extended firing pin. I never would have thought that would fix this problem, but I'll certainly give it a try!

I shot the 3N37 loads on Saturday, but I think I like the N350 better - the dot seemed more stable. .40AET, I would love to see pics of truly bad pressure signs so I'll know what to look for next time. I did manage to blow the jacket off of a Zero JHP last week - bullet left the gun, jacket was stuck in the chamber. Pretty sure that's a bad sign.

I'll try the firing pin first, then move on to primers and powder combinations if that doesn't work. Thanks again!

  14. post-6531-1146853333_thumb.jpgI've been experimenting with 9 major loads for a few months (big thanks to everyone who has posted load data here, that has really helped), but it seems no matter what powder I use I still see flattened primers and primer flow. Is that just a way of life for 9 major or do I need to keep looking for another load? I'm attaching a pic of my brass for show and tell. I'm shooting an SV IMM 4.5" scheumann barrel, 3 port titanium comp, no holes in the barrel. So far this is what I've tried, all using 125 gr zero JHPs, mixed brass and WSR primers:

7.4 gr N340 OAL 1.175 - makes about 170 pf, but I had extraction problems - the outside of the cases were marked pretty badly from the chamber. Sandy was able to replace/tune my extractor and it ran flawlessly for the Double Tap Champ. Dot moved in a big circle.

7.8 gr N350 OAL 1.175 - still makes 170 pf, the dot movement was much better (up and to the right, within the glass), didn't have any extraction problems but not sure if this was due to the load or the extractor tuning.

8.0 gr 3N37 OAL 1.170 - 170 pf, haven't really shot enough of them to gauge the dot movement or see if I have extraction problems.

The pic is a little blurry, but you can see the flow around the firing pin strike - when I clean the gun I find little flakes of primer on the firing pin/spring, I'm thinking that's not good. So my question is, is this "normal" looking brass for 9 major?

    Thanks

    Rhonda

  15. Once again Robert and his crew put on a great match - thank you to everyone who made it happen, it is greatly appreciated. Can't wait until the next one!

Rhonda, Congrats, 3rd C open right? And you've had that open gun how many weeks now? Great job. ;)

Thanks Shaun, it was good to see you again. Yep, that's right - I'm absolutely loving this gun! :D It ran flawlessly for the whole match - now if I can just get my brain to do that too...
