I would go for it .I think DW is a great out of the box 1911 . The price seems pretty good .

I would go for it also. $1100 and you’re really not into a ss gun for very much.  I sold a dan Wesson about 5 years ago. It was my first ss gun and it was great. I just didn’t shoot or load 45 so I got rid of a gun that was never shot.

I've always disliked that "Indian/Arrow" analogy.

Pick two Indians with the same skill set. Give one of them a set of crappy arrows, and he won't do as well as the other guy.

It's the Indian and the arrow.

Of course, dropping $2k-3k on a new gun won't make you jump from C class to A class. It's not that simple

But there are decided advantages to be had in upgrading guns. For many shooters, a heavier gun is going to be a bonus. With some guns (1911s for example), you might pay more for increased reliability - which can translate to better match scores.

That said, for some people - a Glock might be all they need. Bob Vogel has certainly done well with the platform.

And there are a lot of bad shooters running around with expensive rigs. Beating them with a Glock doesn't mean expensive guns have no value.

I reload the 77 grain smk over 24.8 grains TAC for long range 3 gun use, though that's not much here in Georgia. I do not bother reloading for inside of 300 yards as I don't have a progressive press for rifle and I'm already hard pressed to load enough 9mm for the whole family.

I guess 223 is so cheap now that it isn’t worth loading snymore except for precision.

I also use 55 grain bulk (fiocchi .223a since my rifle likes it and the primers aren't crimped) inside of 300 and a hand loaded 77 smk for 300+. I Zero the 55 grain for 100 yards and the 77 grain at 200, which let's the JM-1 reticle BDC marks line up for both rounds at 300, 400, 500.

Do you not reload for 3G?

Are you saying the fact it gets everywhere isn't worth the inexpensiveness in quantity?

Yes. Because when it comes time for cleaning, it turns into paste. Almost like you taking flour and getting it wet. It works great as a place holder, but I finally woke up and found a better solution to the problem.

  6. Try and “push” responsibilities off. Manage like you are managing a company.

I have a few extra committed guys that I get yearly commitments from. They commit to building a stage and running registration for me for 1 year. And in return the club pays for 1 major level 2 match they want to go to. (Here in Pa there’s a local one that most of the guys shoot about an hour away.)

If I’m going to ask a big commitment  of them, I need take care of them on the back end.

    obviously match fees are waved.

  7. I saw a guy shooting this weekend that I could tell was cross eye dominant. He held the gun so sideways so his other eye could see the sights.

I don’t have much experience at all dealing with this but I could tell that was the wrong way to go about it.

maybe since he’s so young it might be better to train him to golf the gun with the non dominant hand so the sights appear to the dominant eye? This way the gun is parallel to the ground and not canted?

  8. So long story short I had a messed up shock bottle. After doing some digging and comparisons with friends gauge, I determined it was faulty. I got ahold of the guys down there and they said to send it in wjth bullets that arnt fitting. They wanted to test stuff and see if their machine die was jacked up at the time mine was made.

they one back that was brand new! Stand up guys unlike some manufacturers in our sports who price gouge the hell out of us.

    highly recommend these guys.

  9. Do you guys see accuracy drop off when switching to your “match loads?”

I watched a guy who shot “cheap bullets” thru his 308 and he had major accuracy drop offs when he switched back to his “match loads”.

he had to shoot 20-30 rounds to almost clean out the cheap copper jacket particles left behind by cheap bullets.

yes you can .     Unless you make your own slugs (cast) your self you'll end up spending

more than buying a few slugs for hunting each year.

    Very interesting.

what kind of accuracy can you get from a “tuned” slug?

I make the spring tester sold by brownells and dillon.  it is not so much about a magic combo unless you are creating loads for a specific function.  too light a spring will produce frame battering and too heavy will not let the pistol function correctly.  well used springs need to be checked to verify they are not weakened.  Our Bianchi guns have 7 lb recoil springs and 14 lb mainsprings in order to function.

In a nutshell if you use factory loads in a factory gun it might not be that important.  If you are creating a load to shoot 1/2"  groups at 50yds. it might be.

    David

I can see bullseye shooters wanting to tune a load for that purpose. USPSA shooting major tho I feel is overkill.

if you have a 10 pound spring, how many rounds until that 10 pound spring goes down to a 9 or 8 pound spring?

None of my standard MBX 140mm .40 mags are even close to 21 "reloadable".  I MIGHT be able to get 21 rounds in one or two of them, but it is SUPERRRR tight. Like cant lock it in the gun tight.

However, I do have a prototype 21 "reloadable" that Adrian made for me last year. The tube is formed differently, and the follower is modified. It won't take 22, but it reloads 21 really nicely, and has always been 100%. I don't how people are getting "21 reloadable" in their standard MBX .40 mags, when Adrian (owner) thought it necessary to use a re-designed tube and follower to accomplish it?

All that being said, similar to what Charlies point.... It's rare that I even feel the need to use the 21. Heck, I reload 19 over half the time. Doesn't hurt to have it in the bag though.

I have all MBX mags but use the grams springs and follower. I thought the same thing but I also haven’t tried in a year or so. I was thinking maybe they changed something up and now you could.

really would like to get a 21 rounder for the next season.

I shot it once last year under the same premise (uspsa practice) and just used my major load. Seems it would be better practice that way.

I guess you’re right with the recoil and all. I just don’t see myself not being competitive and shooting steel challenge. Even though I want to shoot it to hone USPSA, after the 2nd or 3rd go at it I’m going to be pissed by seeing my name so far down the list lol.
