I get the "C" issue, and winning or losing.

I've never been above "B" shooting major (did very well as a high B and actually was accused of sandbagging to win "B" which was not true, I just plateaued with a single stack .45 )  but I'm guessing the bulk of shooters are in B or C and may do as well or better shooting minor.

So maybe I should have said, why the focus on major for shooters in B/C class who may get better scores with an easier to handle minor gun?

I see your line of reasoning but even if you have a 2:1 alpha to Charlie ratio, with a 120 rnd match You are now 40 points down. Do you think you can make up 40 points by shooting minor?

    Use super comp brass

If your extractor needs adjustment (it may not) for the SC brass just tweak it a little tighter until it ejects well .

Lot of info on tuning extractor on this site and the web

The older sTI's that I've owned all ran fine with SC brass from the box FWIW

My trubore runs both 38 s and sc just fine

In general comps on 9MAJOR Guns like more gas to run fairly flat. Your gun will undoubtedly run flatter if you bump your load UP.
I think if you try to decrease your load eventually it will stop cycling or at best shoot like a regular 9mm non comped gun only with more recoil.

I only make one load for my Open guns, full on MAJOR. If I shoot a steel match or something then my guns just louder than other guns.👍

Exactly, find the major load that works the comp best and stay there

  4. Mike is this the same issue you had at Doc Welt? I have 2 rts2’s. Both hold zero, but both have had to go back because of broken contacts. My biggest issue is not bright enough on bright sunny day

Besides, a safety violation needs to be addressed instantly. The point of stopping a shooter is to make things safe NOW. Two minutes afterwards is moot.

Sarge is right, gotta stop em now

I haven't seen any difference in Point of Impact from a benched TruBor

and a  freehand held TruBor, 9mm Major.    :)

If you suspect there is a difference, I'd do both - shoot from the bench

and also freehand, to confirm your bullets are landing where you think

    they're landing.    :)

Jack, you need a rule book in the bathroom like I have. I wear rule books out by reading them so much and still miss the occasional odd ball rule.

I had to DQ a guy at a major once for ejecting a snap cap in a safe area. Kind of a double whammy.

Lol Sarge, that’s exactly where one of my copies is

and to shoot targets on an “as and when visible” basis

by your interpretation that means if i'm shooting single stack i have to do a standing reload if i can see 5 targets from my 1st position even though i can see it at the next position, i dont think so

not only do you want to get the last shot to register, you also want that to be the last shot to register.  i pay attention to the shooter unloading and not the timer, so immediately after the shooter finishes, i hold the timer way behind me so that it doesn't pick up the shooter unloading, and for the scoring RO to see and record his time.  last weekend i guess the guy on the nook didn't see the time and i laid the timer on a nearby table and it must have picked up that noise as it showed way more time than it seemed to take, so we backed it up one "shot" for the real time.  it was like a 10 second break between "shots" so that made sense.

Exactly, I’ve had the last shot brass hit the timer and add a full second, if I wasn’t watching it would have hurt their score

I think at lower classes like C or D, jumping in with a bunch GMs is not productive.  The nervousness of missing a damn popper 5 times while much better shooters are watching really sucks.

When I was a C, I got to shoot with Max and Blake Miguel.  They were totally cool to shoot with, but the extra 20 people watching our squad all day added to the pressure.

However a D or C squadded with a high B or A class shooter is great.

Just don't be tempted to try to replicate a 25 yard target on the move like the upper guys can and do.  Know what will work for you.

I'm always happy to share my plans, and will throw the caveat that my plan my not to be the best solution for them and am happy to assist them with a plan.

+1,  I started out squadding with Trent before I knew any better, now I do so I can pick his brain about the stage, he still almost always beats me but that gives me something to work for. lol

Treat both of these like regular stages.  If you get all nervous because they are classifiers you are screwed mentally.  Just can't have Mike's and noshoots on classifiers.  Given that it is your first 2, you have nothing to lose.

Tick Tock.  Go as fast as you can see your sights.  Draw one one of the open targets.  You do need a little speed, but on the noshoot target make sure more than anything that you have 2 good shots.

Lightning and thunder. 5 second par time.  If you have a 1.5 second draw, that gives you 3.5 seconds for the other 5 shots (.75 per aimed shot)

Aim.  If you go too fast, you will miss and drop points or Mike.  Patience for a good sight picture and good trigger pull at the 25 yard range.  2nd string, make sure you hit your reload.  Need to be a little quicker on this string, but not crazy fast.  1.5 second draw, 1.5 second reload only leave 2 seconds for the 4 remaining targets.  Still, .5 seconds at 10 yards is pretty doable

3rd string, strong hand only.  Spend a little time dryfire and making sure you get a good grip with only your strong hand and good sight alignment without your weak hand to correct the grip.  Good trigger pull without yanking.  On strong and weak hand shots, I concentrate on not putting too much of my finger through the trigger guard which is a good way to pull to the side.

    Relax and have fun.

Trent’s right, don’t get all worked up over classifiers or they will get the better of you. I shoot every week with Trent and “try” to apply his advice whenever he gives it, doesn’t always work(me not him) lol

on a more serious note I recommend to enter limited your first few matches, even if you are shooting a 9mm with regular (15-17 round) magazines. its just less to think about and lets you learn the game, then once you see all the other shooters in the other divisions you will have a better idea what division interests you the most and what gear you may want to use.

+1 to this, start out limited, you have enough to worry about just being safe your first few matches

I need glasses to drive, and more recently to shoot. Progressive bifocals were a nightmare for me, and I just shot with safety glasses for a while.. but the front sight was never clear. This proved to be a problem for the distant targets and kind of ticked me off... so 4-5 matches ago i got a nice new pair of single vision glasses made that focus at 25" from my eyes. This works like a champ for seeing the sights, but the distant targets are more blurry than before but at least the front sight is easy to see. I can slow down, aim, and hit what I'm aiming at even if the target is fuzzy.

    here is my question..

what if the targets are all <5 yards... should I change out to just plain safety glasses and just look at the targets? anyone do this?

I had the same problem, went to the eye doc, had non dominant lens made for distance and dominant lens made for front sight(25”), works great, just takes a min to get used to putting them on

The OP said, "The CoF describes that all magazines used during the stage are to be placed on top of barrels, tables, etc..." That means they can't be on the belt, by definition. Probably be best if the WSB said "no magazines on the belt", but that's getting to be more like all the "lawyer language" we see on product packaging. ("This cereal was designed for oral ingestion. Do not rub this product in your eyes." :goof: )

That does not mean they can’t be on belt, that means they have to start on a barrel, if you want to pick them up and put them in your belt after cof begins, you can

What I get more of is folks wanting a double whenever the hole is not perfectly round, either due to just the way the cardboard tore or the shot being at an angle to the target.

I have seen perfect doubles as well when running a shooter, on a target 8’ away. The rest are “c’mon that’s a double “
