  3. Is there any die that will remove the infamous glock buldge. I've tried the Lee Factory Crimp. Its a nice die. But the problem is that none of these dies have a sizing ring that actually touches the shellholder. So you are always left with that little gap exactly where the buldge resides. Any ideas.

I just tried a Redding GRX Push Thru Resizing Die for .40 S&W and it works very good! It is one more step but it does get rid of the "Buldge"

  4. I just got a Redding GRX Push Thru Resizing Die for .40 S&W. I works well but takes quite a bit of pressure.

The main difference is that unlike the EGW U die, the whole case pushes through the die, so all the force is on the upstroke and there is none on the downstroke. I think it's going to mean using more lube than I'm used to, but I'll have to experiment.

I just got one from Midway and it works very well. I used One Shot case lube it didn't take a lot to push the cases thru the die. I did get the bottle and adapter ring too .

  5. I read about it on thehighroad.org in the reloading section. IIRC, somebody did chrono tests with small pistol, small pistol magnum, and small rifle primers all with the same load otherwise. It may have been .38 Special. There were several other posts addressing the issue, but one guy actually did the work. Good luck. I'm having more trouble getting powder than primers.

I will check out THR post.

What powder are you looking for?

  6. When I switched to Fed Sm Pistol Mag from Fed Sm Pistol regular I picked up a few point in PF. Don't know the correlation to Wolff SPP. Expect a couple points of PF, but nothing big. If you're worried back down the charge just a little, chrono and work back up.

    Thanks for the info!

  7. Thanks to everyone. I decided to go directly to the source on this and sent an email. Here is the reply I got from Robin Taylor.
We're hand-fitting them to a newer-model "tab" frame. Unless you have an RTF gun, it should push right in. Only minor fitting at most.

    Thanks for the update!

  8. I was curious as to how long this panic buying was going to last and I found this on another forum from a fellow that had ask the manufacturing companies what was going on. It was interesting so I thought I would post it here

As I'm sure you're all aware primers are impossible to find. Anyway, I figured I'd ask the "horse's mouth" and see what the manufactures have to say about the shortage. I e-mailed Wolf, CCI, Federal, and Winchester and asked what's up with the shortage of primers. I tried to e-mail Remington too but they have taken their e-mail contact page down, (maybe getting too many questions?) Anyway, I got three quick responses from the four:

    Wolf:

All of our distributors are out of stock right now on our primers and probably will be for a while; we have been and will continue to send out shipments to them. The next primer shipment will be going out to our distributors in June. The demand is so great that they are trying to fulfill all their back orders. If you can find one, we recommend placing yourself on a back order list in order to try and receive some.

Below is a list of all the distributors who carry our primers. Please contact them directly to find out pricing and availability:

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact us here at Winchester Ammunition. We are always glad to hear from our many friends and customers who share in the shooting sport.

Since last November we have been working 7 days a week, 24 hours a day making and shipping ammunition and components. However, in spite of our best efforts we can' make enough to fill what seems like an insatiable demand for ammunition and primers. As long as the extraordinary demand continues we will continue to have shortages. When this might end is impossible to guess.

Thank you again for contacting us here at Winchester Ammunition. If you should require additional information, do not hesitate to contact us.

    Sincerely,

Brian, after this year you could probably sell T-Shirts for IPSC shooter that said "I survived the primer shortage of 2009" :roflol::o

sure hope they show up soon

  9. I figured I would revive this old one to see if anyone would have a different opinion on trying to save primers...

Now that they are 3 cents a piece...instead of 2 cents a piece?

I figured the fact that we were having trouble finding them...

    Not how much they cost...

I have to admit I have done it and got away with out any trouble, but I am not going to continue after reading this post :surprise:

  10. Which loctite to use?

I see red , blue and green recommened :surprise: how do you decide whats best for a particular application?

You have to decide which one will work best for your particular application. Just general guidelines:

Blue, medium strength, doesn't require special tools or heat to disassemble

Red, high strength, usually requires heat for disassembly

Green, high strength(almost as strong as red), penetrating formula, usually requires heat to disassemble

Red and blue is applied before assembly, while green is applied after assembly and "wicks" into the parts like penetrating oil. Hope this helps.

    Yes, it does Thanks!

  12. When I specifically asked Redding if the G-Rx was carbide or steel, they said it was steel.

    Guy

My mistake then. I can see no reason not to make it carbide though. For the cost, I just figured it would have a carbide insert.

It definitely has an insert and I can't see why they would put a steel insert in a steel die? <_<

Oh well it does work great!

  13. Due to the backlogs at Zero bullets, I have been waiting on an order since February, no fault of theirs, just the times we are in right now. Anyway, a buddy of mine was able to acquire 15k pieces from MG last week and I received them today. Never shot these before, they look good but I have one concern.

The Zeros I have been shooting are 40SW 180g JHP, the MG are exactly the same. The Zeros measure .612 in length and the MG measures .625 in length. My question is should I expect a difference in OAL with the setup on my 1050 left alone and should I expect a difference on my crony? I have a qualifier match this weekend I was going to shoot. Do I use these new ones with no test done or load up the last 500 I have of the zeros.

    any follow up information?

  14. Update:

Well, half of my order showed up today. The wife's knife is still somewhere in the que even though it was ordered at the same time. This is exactly one week short of three months.

Now the annoying part (sort of). The one side of my knife looks fine. The other side has an three obvious marks where they screwed up with the stone and stratched the knife from edge to back. Other parts of the edge look like they were done by a 10 year old. The screws on the one sheath were tightened with the wrong size screwdriver and bunged up a little. For $200 I expect a little more and will, politely, share this with William. It's a fighting knife that will be worn daily and develop some wear, but starting out this way is a little disappointing. I really hope they get there quality back!, I have one and have been very happy with it...

  15. I've just about given up trying to find my old pocket utility knife. It wasn't much - a Benchmade Mini-Ambush - but it worked just fine for me. So, the question is what do I get to replace it with. I could buy another one for under $50, but I figure I'd ask around as there have to be a thousand knives in this price range to choose from.

My only criteria is that the knife has to have a pocket clip, the blade has to be less than 3", it has to be easy to sharpen, and it has to be relatively low cost.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I really like my CRKT M21-02 it has been a great utility knife  and it fits your criteria.

  16. Has anybody had a problem with Lone Wolf Barrels and their Glocks shooting differently from the stock barrel / sight set up?

I have had two ,one in a 17 and one in a 35 and both shot fine with out sight adjustment!

  17. Lets say I were to make some mags on my own, and they worked, and I were to sell them, would it be illegal. There are lots of aftermarket magazines makers out there. I was just curious about the legalities of such.

Heck I sp-ent the past hour trying to find magazines for sale, aside from some STi staniless steel repops at $100.00 a throw, NO Luck..

    Doesn't Safariland make magazines anylonger???

    <_<

Just curious <_< what mags were you looking for?

  18. I read a bunch about this on another site. I guess everyone is talking about using these (or whatever you can get) instead of standard SP primers. The theme for the few that knew anything was basically to back off on the powder charge of your normal load and work back up looking for pressure signs. Chrono results did show a small increase in velocity using them (and probably pressure too). I know this is a pretty basic answer and that you probably had already thought about doing this already, but the main idea is that they can be used as long as you do it carefully.

Thanks for the info! Thats about what I was thinking too, do you recall the other sight you were on I would like to read the posts.

  19. Hi, I got a hold of some Federal small pistol magnum primers

    My current .40 load is Zero 180gr JHP , 4.9gr N-320 , Wolf spp , 1.170 col , mixed brass .

This gives me a PF of 170 from my STI eagle 5" bushing barrel @ 70*

I would like to know about how much to reduce this load to safely work up a new major load using N-320 or E3 with the magnum primers.

    Thanks Donald

  20. Looks great. I would buy the holster if you made one for Ke-380. As for the mag pouch...a mag that size is just going to end up in my pocket. I'm serious about the holster if you ever get it into production.

    Thanks, PM sent
