  1. I have a small supply of Winchester primers and all my revolvers have stock factory springs. I will plan on working up some loads and testing. Hopefully finding small pistol primers in the future will not be so exasperating.
  2. I have done some searching on the forum and seen some pros and cons for using small rifle primers(SRP) in pistol ammo. Enough info to decide that in this current state of demand with primers being in short supply to take a stab at using some of my limited resources to make some revolver ammo with my SRPs. That however is my dilemma , revolvers. In my case I carry, qualify and compete with .357 magnum revolvers that are often loaded with .38 special ammo. My research here seems to be limited to advice on semi-autos. What is the experience and consensus of the group (if any) with crafting revolver ammo using SRPs?
  3. Thanks for the heads up. I might just back off this project and simply enjoy the revolver as a plinker with the US traditional factory load. I am having a lot of minor difficulty getting this going without spending beau coup bucks on all new componants, dies and such. I do not plan to shoot it that much so I guess I will back off the reloading aspect right now.
  4. I have a Enfield No 2 Mk1* (DAO) Service revolver from WWII. I want to shoot a few matches with it for fun and profit. The English service cartridge was a 200 grain FMJ bullet leaving the muzzle at about 650 FPS. I put that at a PF of 130. Any of our friends out there ever load for this cartridge in this weight? I would love some recipes. .38 S&W seems to have been abandoned in my manuals.
  5. I do have several double magazine pouches for the matches. In reality however I tend to keep one magazine on the belt and one in the 5.11 vest. Sometimes both or three magazines in the vest with none on the belt. I might have to try reloading this way in a club match. Even so the idea of splitting you mags to be able to better grab the easiest one makes good tactical sense to me. It can be gamesmanship though I can easily see how you would want to help your game skills as well as making good sense. Whatever...best to play the game as is and not try to be "too clever".
  6. Here is a interesting aspect...I compete in SSR. I carry two speedloaders in a snap pouch on my belt and in lieu of a 3rd speedloader on the belt behind the weapon I have it in a pocket of my 5.11 vest. I understand the rules to allow this but ask for more opinions here.
  7. I recently attended a match and competed in SSR. one of the stages had us starting with a fully loaded weapon and NO spare ammunition on our person. we were to advance to a "Downed security guard" and retrieve our reloads from the dummy. I was in a quandry. My plan was to engage the first two targets with three rounds each to ensure enough neutralize hits. First target up close received two hits close together in the 0 zone and I engaged the distant target with four rounds to ensure good hits. I now had an enpty revolver with NO reloads. I then advanced to the downed "security guard" to reload while exposed to several targets. I ejected my brass enroute to facilitate the reload since I had NO ammo to reload with from behind cover prior to leaving. One SO wanted to give me a procedural however the SO with the timer had given me permission to advance with an empty revolver. That stage was not in my opinion a good example of IDPA doctrine. Had I been armed with a SSP it would have been no problem, four to six rounds down range and advance while engaging the other exposed targets would be easy to accomplish. As it were my revolver almost cost me big time. From reading the comments here I believe this stage too should have been disallowed in the match. Even so it was fun and no real problems but the potential was there.
