  1. Thanks you two for the nice responses. Reason I asked is becasue I was watching a supergrandchamp video with Chris Tilley and they had matches there a couple years ago. Plus I dont recall seeing anything on practiscore. Their map view is not that nice to use.

Trying to find all the matches around me and plan out my next couple of matches to go and try out.

  2. I think I might also get the extended base pads too. Do magazines get broken in as time goes on? Fitting that 17th in there just makes them so tight. I will probably load 16 next time. Also doesn't help that I don't usually load up to 17 in a mag when I go the range.

Next time should be a bit smoother I'm hoping. Gotta start dryfiring and getting reload practice in.

  3. So I shot my first match yesterday and it was a bit bumpy I spose.

First stage was an unloaded table start where you could run up to 7 targets and shoot 3 at each. (Bear in mind o figured ahh I only need 3 mags for this, 2 in my belt and one on the table gun I had room for 4 on my belt) On the buzzer I grabbed the gun, taking care to not send it flying across the table onto the ground, loaded the magazine, chambered a round and sprinted to about 4 yards. Little did I know that I sprinted too fast for my mags and I had one go flying. I thought it was the one in my gun so I grabbed another one from my belt and to my dismay I found that my gun already had a magazine in it..so I dropped that on the ground. By the time I got to the last array I had no bullets and had to hunt for the other magazine. Total train wreck. But hey no DQ

Second stage wasn't to bad after I had learned to crank down the racer mag pouches. Them suckers were not getting away now. Also I had a full belt of mags. I ended up shooting a no shoot but oh well.

    3rd stage was worse.

Had 10 steel targets 12-15 yards and I went 9-9 but missed the tenth and discover that I had ran the gun dry. I picked literally the only mag on my person that had 10 rounds in it. Loaded a new mag chambered a round and missed. Had a malfunction because I didn't seat the magazine fully, cleared it and finished the stage. Lesson learned load all your mags and verify they are full.

Last stage was the qualifier 2 shots each on 3 targets reload and 2 more shots on the 3 targets. First 6 shots went well I reloaded shot on the first Target and had a malfunction. Due to a poorly seated magazine. Cleared it and kinda forgot what Target I was shooting and how many rounds I had shot. It was Virginia count. I shot 5 more shots and ULSC. Turns out that I had shot the correct number of rounds but the RO saw 5 hits on one Target and 4 on the others. So I got a procedural. I had video of the stage and I shot 8 rounds. I think one of the stickers fell off and made it look like I shot 13 rounds. Oh well life happens I spose.

All in all I had a blast and best of all no DQs. It's kinda annoying that there were so many small mistakes that honestly cost me a ton of time but they were all lessons learned and I know what to fix next time. I definitely know I could've shot alot better.

However, the people there were great and super helpful. Can't wait to shoot my next match. I'm hooked

How many magazines do you typically carry on your belt in CO?  Shooting in Single Stack I would have 5 mags on my belt, plus my Barney mag in back pocket.

Planning on 4. I'm skinny so 4 is all that fits. Plus the 5th that will go in my gun after make ready

  5. Well I went out to shoot the new gun and had a guy with a P226 and a Romeo 1 on it. I shot it and lets just say I like the dot.

Had a friend that works at the range and got a Delta Point Pro for a good deal.

Decided to shoot carry optics cause I like dots and don't really wanna reload every second.

I just gotta take off the magwell and call it a day.

I will also say that I am super impressed with how this thing shoots put of the box. Trigger is nice, gun is very calm.

Read the Rule Book. Most of it deals with the stage design and maters that aren't your problem. So start in Chapter 8, 9 and 10. Here's the link.

    https://uspsa.org/rules

Safety is key. Note that everyone's gun will be unloaded, and stay that way until the Range Officer tell you to "load and make ready." There are only two condition where it is acceptable to pull you gun out of your holster: at the Safe Table (no ammo allowed), or at the direction of the Range Officer when it's your turn to shoot.

Keeping you muzzle pointed down range is a big deal. When you move, when you reload, when the stage makes you carry another object; keep that muzzle pointed down range!

Shooter are good people, they will help you out with whatever you need. Enjoy!

Looking at the rules it feels like there is a gazillion ways to DQ. Some are like if you sneeze the wrong way. But I guess so long as you follow the basic safety rules of muzzle awareness and finger off the trigger, you'll be pretty much good.

  7. Am I gonna have to get slide cuts on a P320 X5 Legion? Website says it’s 43.5 with the magwell and I know I’m not gonna get a dot sight on there that is 1.5 oz. If so that is kinda annoying. Or if I take off that rear sight does it come in just under the 45 oz limit for co. Also base plates are only gonna add to my weight. Aghhhh

Like said above, safety is the most important thing. If you have two weeks read the rule book. Next read the rule book again. Show up early, well rested and get checked in. Be sure everyone knows it's your first match. If you're polite and say thank you, people will go out of there way to help you. Your goals should be to be very safe and learn.

Don't be afraid to say "I don't understand". Also you might consider shooting Limited minor instead of Production for the ammo reserves. Make sure all your equipment is in good working order. A first match is one thing. A first match with constant malfunctions is rough. Have fun and welcome.

Are they okay with switching your division at the event or?

Probably only ever use 4 unless it's a very unusual stage!

Or if I'm shooting air. Sounds like I have some new things to go buy. Hopefully I can get everything in. I think the next match around is towards the first of the march. Super excited. Figure Ill get enough mags for production then make a division choice about CO or production. Probably gonna go CO pretty quickly

I bought the +5 base pads with spring from Taylor Freelance for 39.99. They go on the 17 round Sig mags. I've got over 10K through them with no problems.

That's more like it. I'd assume they are under 141.25mm? I think I might just mess around in limited then and possible pick up an optic to shoot CO in a few.

Also I already have an Alpha X. So if I get this holster, https://benstoegerproshop.com/daa-pdr-pro-ii-2-doh-holster-by-double-alpha-academy/ can I put that on the hanger that is already in place for the alpha X? Switching the mounting hardware is a pain.

The 21 rd mags from Sig are mostly non-legal for USPSA because they are slightly longer than the 141.25mm limit in Limited and Carry Optics. You will need a mag gauge to check yours. The basepads are slightly too thick and need to be sanded down to fit the gauge.

You can get 23 rounds in them if you replace the spring and follower with the kit from Grams Engineering and replace the basepad with either Springer or Taran Tactical +2 pads. They are thinner than the stock basepads, even though they add capacity.

Hmm woulda been nice if they made them that way from the factory. One other question about holsters. If I am looking to shoot Cary optics or limited, can I use the race style holsters and just play with how low I have the holster? For carry optics the butt of the gun has to be above the top of my belt right?

    Or am I missing something?
