  1. Cool. I have been using Zero for a long time and was nervous about switching and even more nervous when I saw the 0.001" difference. Good to know it isn't a big deal. Any other differences in MG bullets that would cause me to hesitate on switching?
  2. I normally use Zero, but their availability has always been an issue (even in the past) and I was thinking about switching to Montana Gold because they always seem to have stock. In the descriptions, Zero claims 0.356 and Montana Gold claims 0.357 Is this even an issue?
  3. <------- Interesting. It has been so long since I have posted, I didn't know I had a Cookie Monster pic in my profile. What's up with that? Anyways, sorry to hijack the thread. You got me started posting. Two posts in one night!
  4. I am a GM Lurker... member since '05 and have 9 posts... well, 10 now! I have the same problem and can relate to everything you just mentioned. I just lurk and search. Maybe one of these days I will get more involved, but for now; I am happy just learning from everyone.
  5. I used this video to tear apart my first 2011.
  6. James, Thanks and I'll be sure to stop by. I still have to get brass, bullets, and powder, but once that is done I'll be ready to jam. Looks like I can still score information from the WNPL Do you guys ussualy run one or two matches per month?
  7. I'm crack'in up. If I lose an inch off of the waist I can get the ghastly Safariland hook from digg'in into my belly and back into the first notch of the belt Thanks for the welcome back! With the all of the advice to try Open first, I definitely was giving it some thought. Today, I just received my open blaster and just the shear coolness of it has cemented my decision to do Open
  8. Excellent information (I love this site!). I was curious about the "crawl before you walk" thing, but it sounds like crawl=Open and walk=Limited... which is a good thing as I am better prepared to shoot Open as I have most of what is needed to shoot and reload for it. Singlestack's Open blaster came "ready to rock" with five mags. Bill's P16.40 came with one stock Para mag. I should also add a thanks to all of you for great conversation and information. If you use the search function on this site you can find out almost anything and everything you want to know about this great sport. Thanks!!!
  9. Hello All, Here is a little story based on belt/waist size as a function of time Unused rig-belt #1 - 2001 My interest was sparked back in 2001 when a friend of mine from Montana showed me his Caspian open blaster and told me about IPSC. Sometime there after; I bought a bunch of gear, joined IPSC, and got ready to blast. Then I just phased out of it with out even getting into it (work, wife, etc). Unused rig-belt #2 - 2005 Around 2005, I seemed to have the time and money again to try another attempt at IPSC. I scrouged up all my old (unused gear), had the IPSC admin dig up my old number and rejoined, and I now lived in a more populated area that had an IPSC league. This time I even went out to watch a match, helped setup and tear down the stages, and met some nice shooters. It was great! I told them I would join them for the next match... and then I phased out again (kids, money, etc). New rig-belt #3 - 2009 Well, as can be seen by my membership date, I have been off and on this site for around four years and have finally decided to make a concerted effort to finally do IPSC. This time; I AM ALL IN!!! I have (yet again) had to purchase a larger belt, but this time I plan on using it! I have had IPSC recapture my old membership number, dug out my gear, and bought a few toys from the site. I guess this brings my question into play... I just bought a Para 16.40 from Bill Schwab and a .38sc Viper from Singlestack. As a newbie, should I start with Limited or Open? I should add: I am old to guns, but new to any type of competitive matches (minus a little trap and a military rifle match here and there).
  10. Well, I took Wakal's advice and installed my Eotech on the handguard in the 1 o'clock position using the YHM canted mounts. It is a lot more comfortable than I had originally imagined and the transition from scope to dot it fast and natural. I also swapped the Vltor Clubfoot stock from my 24" to my 16"... mainly because of the way the sling mounted to the RRA stock. I also installed the Miculek compensator. That thing is amazing! Bad thing is... using the Leupold, my 100 yard groups went from sub .5" to plus 4". Everything inside 50 yards with my Eotech is right on the money. Short of double checking how my Leupold is mounted, I might have to hit the reloading bench and see if I can get this issue worked out. I'm going to hit the range one more time before I mess with things, just to make sure I wasn't having a bad day. Pending working this 100yd issue out... I like it a lot. I'll post pics as soon as I can.
  11. Thanks for the great posts! Wakal, NICE... VERY NICE! It is nice to see exactely what I am planning to do. Saves me from guess work. How's that JP Tank Break working for you? I bet those YHM rails will do the job for holding my Eotech on the handguards and allow me to have my Leupold on there at the same time. It also looks like they have a low enough profile to hold it in nice and tight to the rifle. I am curious, I am assuming that you have to reposition your eye in relation to the specific scope you are using at the time, and if so, is it comfortable or do you have to work/practice at it? It seems to me that one would have to "tilt" the rifle to utilize the dot scope, but I don't know. Also, are you running into any paralax issues with the dot scope mounted so far to the right of the rifle? George, I haven't even tried shooting my dot out to 200yds, but I will head out to the range and give it a shot (pun intended ). Thanks for the great info guys!
  12. bgary, Thank you for the quick reply! Everything you said makes sense. I am heading to the range this weekend to see if they need a hand setting up some stages. This will let me check things out and get the nerve up to enter a match in the near future. Until then, I have a ton of reading, research, and setup things to do. The set up you mentioned about using a scope with a dot scope mounted at the 1 o'clock position on the handguard is a great idea. But I think that I would run into mounting issues that would cost quite a bit of cash to resolve. I am thinking I would have to remove the Predator handguard and install a JP handguard that has the 1 o'clock position. The JP on my 24" (rifle length gas system) could be an option if I wanted my shorty (mid-length gas system) to look like a dissy... but I don't know if I want to go that route, not to mention that my 24" would be handguardless and I would have a high-dollar Predator handguard sitting in a box collecting dust. Any ideas on how I could manage to put my Eotech at the 1 o'clock position on my current handguard setup? I know that YHM makes a canted 45 deg. rail that might do the trick, but that would add a lot of parts (that could loosen up) under my dot scope... but it is an option... what do you think? Thanks.
  13. Hello all, First, I have to thank all of the contributers to this site. The information is great and has been a giant help in helping me understand the sport, its rules, and its goals. Secondly. I currently own an AR-15 that I would like to qualify and perform well in open 3-gun matches. I have attached a pic for referance. (Sorry for the glamour shots... I am an AR-15.com member and we all do this over there, lol) Concerns/additions: 1. I have since added a Spector CST sling and a Miculek comp. 2. Will the Eotech allow me to accurately shoot the distance required by most 3-gun matches? 3. Are the back-up iron sights even needed anymore? 4. Is a bi-pod needed? 5. I have a ton of Colt G.I. Mags... are 20's or 30's better for matches? 6. I have a Leupold 3-9 x 40 Tactical scope with an Armalite quick-detach mount that quickly replaces the EOtech... should I consider this setup instead? 7. I am not sure, but my other AR is an option and parts can be swapped from it or it can be used in place of my shorty... I don't know. (I have since replaced the Leopold with a 4200 Elite) Am I good to go or do I need to go back to the drawing board? Thanks in advance for any replies and take care.
