  1. While it is a tangent off this discussion, I think it's important to consider that whatever a RO may announce to the assembled squad/gallery before the shooter steps to the line for a "Make Ready" sequence is more a matter of safety and/or crowd control. Often the announcement that the "range is hot" or the question of "is it clear downrange" is made before the next shooter steps to the line. Though in practice such announcements often appear to be a first step in the make ready sequence...

  2. S&W MFG# 150922 M&P 9mm 4.25 Threaded Barrel Kit (base pistol plus threaded barrel)

    S&W MFG# 150923 M&P 45 4.5 Threaded Barrel Kit

Both are current items. S&W last shipped any appreciable numbers of the 9mm kits in 2010 and a scant few of them in 2012. Last shipments of 45 TB kits was late 2010. They have shipped small numbers of the threaded barrel only accessories recently.

  3. I know barely anything about optics, but if the front objective is the same size on that as on the 1-6.5, then the exit pupil is going to be even smaller on 8.5x.

Eye relief (the distance from your eye's pupil to the eye piece of the scope) is different than exit pupil. The exit pupil is an internal measurement within the scope, while eye relief is an external measurement. The previous comments regarding the "eye box" are part and parcel to the eye relief distance (which is variable for each individual in reality). Eye position within the geometry of the AR platform is a bit different than what optics manufacturers were dealing with in more traditional, bolt gun applications. This has lead to some less than optimal eye relief considerations with new riflescope designs of late. Finding the correct geometry for AR's got a big boost when Larue brought the SPR and SPR-E mounts to market (a decade ago?).

The field of view is determined by the diameter of the main tube of the scope, as is the overall light gathering capacity of the scope (think funnels). One inch tubes will always have a smaller FOV than a given 30mm tube (34mm tube scopes will yield a wider FOV than either 30mm or 1 inch). As the magnification increases in any optic, FOV shrinks.

By and large, the objective size of any scope is more about marketing and consumer preferences, than it is about performance. Bigger is always better...right? Take a close look at scopes for the European market versus those for the US market. In general, you won't find objectives over 40mm and you'll find more 34mm main tube models.

  4. Palmetto State uppers and lowers are manufactured by FN.

CDNN has (last I looked) A3 forged uppers for 80 bucks that are manufactured by Cerro Forge (one of the top OEM AR upper and lower makers).

I'm fairly certain that Fulton Armory makes and/or sells an A2 front sight base that clamps or attaches with set screws for longer sight radius set up rifles.

  5. November is what I was told on the 1-8.5x. But, I think they were a couple months behind on the 1-6.5 release, so it may be SHOT.

But, it's something to see. I think 8.5 will be a little much for 3 gun, and the thing is heavy, but then again I never thought I'd want an optic of any kind, let alone a 1-6.5.

Odds are Bushnell will show the 1-8.5 at the NASGW wholesale show in November and to retailers at SHOT in January. There is a distinct pattern in this industry. History says the new product will be available at retail in March or April in small numbers.

  6. I guess there's some clarification needed, Mecgar made mags for the Para pistols will drop free in a RIA. The mags that I've used marked 'made in Canada' which I believe are what Para provides with new pistols don't drop free. This is true for my doublestack .45 RIA and my 9mm one too.

The "Made in Canada" is no more (unless you happen upon some used mags). Para relocated to North Carolina two plus years ago, I don't think they are making their own magazines any more (hardly anyone does). MecGar is the OEM mfg currently for Para, RIA and a large majority of firearms makers.

  7. So yours run really well "wet"? I have only been oiling mine lightly. I usually use Mobil 1 synthetic. I'll have to try soak it it down :-)

I've always run a grease type lube on my pistols and ran the TS with a rather heavy dose. I leave the Mobil 1 on my AR bolts (mostly on the theory that it holds up to the heat better). The Mobil 1 may not be holding in the frame/slide rails being thin. Try Slideglide or the Shooters Choice red grease, these more viscose lubes will hang in the rails better. The slide and frame are two different finish types; the blued slide is nice and slick, but I always thought the coating on the frame was a little gritty.

  8. Middle Man and ohsevenflhx what differences have you noticed with the stainless guide rod over the stumpy plastic one?

burningsquirrels I bought my TS new and it did not come with the buffer installed, but a note which said to use it on the .40.

Have any of you tried a Sprinco guide rod? What do you think?

After running the factory buffer for a few months and seeing how chewed up the thing got, I decided to ditch it as a matter of principle. I could envision too many problems with bits of plastic floating around inside the pistol.

I experienced random failures (one here and there, nothing consistent) to feed with the original factory plastic guide rod. After running through my magazines to find a potential source for the problem and polishing the barrel ramp, I changed the guide rod out and the random failures to feed disappeared.

The plain-jane steel guide rod and springs from CZ Custom is the simplest solution.

  9. Try selling S&W at the wholesale level!!! The demand for Shields is astronomical and supply is abysmal. Every retailer in the country has Shields on backorder with multiple wholesale distributors. S&W is dribbling out small numbers each week, but without having your name on the list with a retailer and/or paying a deposit your odds of just finding a Shield calling a random dealer is null (as you've found out). Same story going back to Keltec 32's a decade ago and way back S&W 44mags in the Dirty Harry days...

  10. I started out shooting Limited with a CZ TS. It was great to run hot factory ball through the TS back in the days before I owned a Dillon 650.

Blade Tech & CR Speed pouches on a CR or DAA belt. I preferred the Taylor Freelance basepads, but the CZ Custom basepad was satisfactory. I successfully ran some Grams spring kits back in my mags back in the day...the details are somewhere in the forms back in 2006 or so. Also, run the steel guide rod from CZ Custom (if your pistol doesn't already have one), it certainly improves the reliability.

  11. Is there any difference between the factory CZ 16 round mags and the Mecgar 16 round mags?

I'm a bit late on this thread...

There is ZERO difference, Mecgar is the OEM producer for CZ's magazines. Mecgar holds somewhere north of 80% of world market in OEM magazines.

  12. XDM 5.25 40S&W are available, but scarce.

    Source for this information?

    +1

Im ready to pull the trigger on one in .40.

    My mistake.

Scratch that regarding 5.25 .40's, read inventory sheet incorrectly (hell, there are only 47 variations of XDM pistols).

  13. XDM 5.25 40S&W are available, but scarce. Springfield has delivered a greater percentage of 9mm 5.25 pistols.

In other news, XDM 5.25 45ACP will be on your dealers shelves later this week...

  14. M&P's have been in terribly short supply for most of 2011 due to S&W's export and govn't contract business. Most of those contracts have clauses that product must be delivered by X date or pay a penalty. In those cases the commercial supply takes the hit, as commercial firearms wholesalers do not have penalties for non delivery.

Second point on why VTAC M&P's are hard to find; the third party contractor finishing slides for S&W did make several slides (and S&W QC let them get out in the wild) that were GOLD (yes, shiny gold like a Desert Eagle).

  15. I hope the Russian American Armory is not the sole importer of the MKA-1919. I would like to see some pricing competition between this and the Saiga 12.

RAA is no longer the importer for the 12 gauge Saiga. Izmash set up their own import company based in South Florida back in late 2010.

Pricing these past eight or so months on the Saiga 12's are solely the result of panic buying, as well as, the Russian's having learned too much about capitalism, supply, and demand. As soon as they saw people paying 1200 bucks retail for their guns earlier this year, they began ratcheting up the wholesale price with each new shipment. Now the Russian's are at an impasse price-wise, wholesalers are not immediately buying Saiga 12's at the bloated wholesale price.

  16. Not quite plug and play.

Picked up one this morning, and tested it this afternoon. After I put a Red Dot on it.

It ran 3 3/4 dram loads with one faiure to eject. 25 rounds. any Mag.

The 3 1/4 dram loads, would run in the 2 3/4 mag, but not the 3 in mag, and would not lock back.

With low recoil slugs it was a single shot. Would not even get the cases far enough back to jam.

Just slight movement of the bolt and back into battery with the empty case.

Lots of potential, easy to handle, need 10 round mags.

More testing/excuse to go to the range, needed.

Cleaned and lubed, ready for more testing.

Same experience here, our test sample only ran 1300 fps or higher velocity loads out of the box. The lower velocity target loads did not push enough gas into the system to completely eject and reload the second shell. Last word I had was that RAA asked the Turks to make the MK1919 run with target loads.

Anyone added any weight to the hollow stock yet?
