I have the same question. I want to start reloading for my 700P LTR, but my head starts spinning when I read about full length vs neck sizing, bushing vs collet dies, body dies, UGH.
I'm not looking for bench rest type accuracy, but I am willing to perform any extra steps to insure that the rifle, not the ammo, is the limiting factor.

Many thanks to Dan Miller for taking these great pictures.

18" WOA barrel as well. Rifle length gas is where it's at. Shoots much softer then my 16" mid-length.

If you can find RL15 try that with the 69s....24.5gr

We're on our way to the Shotgun match in Sparta...and...well, it seems that you need a sling for your shotgun as well as your rifle at Rocky Mountain 3-Gun 2013!!
Look what happens when we have all this time to think!!! We're driving in the daytime instead of overnight...what the..?????
Anyway, I will probably have a revised round count after next weekend. We are trying to get a work party together to help us set up the stages July 12,13,14. If you're crazy enough to help, e-mail me at rm3gun@yahoo.com. First to e-mail get the good beds!
Denise
So do we need to be able to sling both the rifle and the shotgun on the same stage? I currently swap one sling between the two.
Thanks Denise.

Here is the stage drawing for the all-shotgun stage. Only stage you need any "special" ammo. I plan to get the match book, with stage diagrams to registered competitors next week.
The buck plates will be from about 18 to 30 yards, the slug targets about 45-50 yards and the birdshot about 8 to 12 yards.
You going to make us shoot the whole thing from inside the car?

Another vote for Carbon Arms. I use the TWiNS system on both a chest rig and backbone. I was able to cut my loading time in more then half, with less then a weeks worth of practice. Shotgun loading had always been the biggest aspect of 3-Gun that was holding me back. The TWiNS system took me from finishing mid pack to a top 5 finish at RM3G. The modularity of the system is the real benefit. Mark P. and James put in a ton of time helping run matches and supporting the sport.

The pic of backround foliage is clearer THRU the scope than just thru the camera...
That has to do with the aperture and depth of field of the camera, not the scope.

I have a L.E. Wilson gauge that is tighter then my chamber, but still takes long rounds. Might try one of those.

Clayoreo "kit"
Clayoreo
The tape was stapled to the crossbar of a wood sawhorse. These stood up in 30 mph winds, hits on the 2x4s don't dislodge the clays.
We made up about a thousand of these during the match. Re-set was not an issue.
Having made several hundred Clayoreos over the weekend, I have a couple of comments.
First, from a stage design aspect, don't go crazy with these things. The are labor intensive and time consuming to assemble. One stage had 3 Clayoreos and our stage had 5. I think 3 is a good balance between shooting challenge and effort required to assemble. If you can hit 3 of them, you can hit 5 or 10 or a hundred.
Second, we found that a toothpick was not always thick enough to keep the Clayoreo from slipping off the tape. We were breaking off a piece of the toothpick (or used a staple) and sticking it perpendicular through the tape. This eliminated the problem. These were the thin type of toothpicks, so if you used the thicker round ones, you would probably be OK.
Other then that, they were awesome. Like Mark said, on our stage, we only had one that completely failed to indicate the hit. We had a couple of other partial failures, but the shooter was still able to get some indication that they hit it.

just went to vtacs website cause I hadn't heard about the 15" version... and it's showing them all except the 7 and 9" as discontinued? (well it says the battlerail "FDE" are discontinued, what's FDE?)

I believe they are phasing out the Extreme rails for the newer Alpha rails. These use a different method of attachment to the barrel nut.
-
I stopped using mine. I think it causes more problems then it solves. With plated bullets, it would cut the plating and the bullets would tumble. I now run all my brass though a Redding push thru die which negates the need for the FCD.
-
I worked this up the other day.

Guess the cat is out of the bag. Just picked up the MTAC. The illumination dial is a huge improvement over the Tac-30 button.
-
+1 I shoot two. For me it is faster then trying to call the shot, (which I suck at) and make up the miss.

ccoker started a thread about a couple of his new rifle builds. He used the Weaver 1-5x Tactical on one of them and makes a couple of comments about the scope in the thread.
Maybe he has some updated impressions he could share with us.
-
The ad still sucks because those are still two different scopes, not just the same scope with a different reticle. The Super Slam version is not illuminated, no illumination knob.
I have been curious about this scope too, here is what I have been able to scrape up on it so far:
-
The Optics Planet's ad is incorrect. That is not the reticle that comes with that scope. Weaver's website shows that scope only comes with the Heavy Dual-X reticle.
The CIRT reticle comes on the Weaver 1-5x24 Tactical.
SWFA has them for $660.

Here is a good article with pictures that covers the differences of the Vltor A5 system.
-
The Vltor A5 system is a hybrid stock, which makes swapping parts between carbine and rifle stocks impossible. The A5 receiver extension is 3/4" longer then a carbine extension and uses a rifle length spring. The A5 buffer is 3/4" longer then a carbine buffer, but weighs 5.3 oz vs 3.0 oz for the carbine buffer.
Since you can't use a carbine or a JP lightened buffer with the A5 stock, the only way to go is to take some weight out of the A5 buffer. The A5 buffer has 2 steel and 2 tungsten weights. You could replace the tungsten weights with steel or several of the weight with similar diameter delrin rod to get the weight down to 3 oz where the JP buffer is.

I have found that fine sand will stick to One Shot, so with the blowing wind around here, I like to remove it. I clean it off with a towel and isopropyl alcohol.

been playing with a TAC30 and have had a LOT of the good 1-4s
I tried the Razor 1-4 and wasn't blown away by it frankly and preferred the TAC30
I just got in a Weaver 1-5 Tactical, FFP, mil based / BDC type reticle
so far, I am really liking it
need to post some pics up of the reticle
I plan to use it this weekend in a 3g match, used the Tac30 a few weeks ago and liked it
I have tested it's BDC out to 500 yards but the match had nothing over 100 yards
I am hoping the one this weekend does so I can test the Weaver out
I have been seriously looking at that Weaver as well. Please let us know how it performs for you.

Here is a post detailing a DIY shock shortening. I know you asked about a smith who could do it. But it should give you a good idea of what is involved.
