  1. That was about the only data I did see. The manuals I have do not list any data for it with 45 and 230's or 200's.
  2. I have a container of Hodgdon Universal, not clays, just Universal. I use Bullseye for my IDPA loads and I am happy with it. But I have a container of Universal and right now I only load 45. I don't see many recipes for 45. Should I even bother, or save it for when I start loading 9mm in a few months?
  3. Thanks. It just seemed as I increased the grains it decreased the FPS, ever so slightly, but lower
  4. OK, So I have a load that I like for IDPA, but I am still trying to finalize the powder charge for IDPA PF in CDP which is 165,000. I am loading Bullseye on 200gr RN Hi-Tek coated from Bayou with an OAL of 1.260 Here is my Chrono data: 4.8gr Bullseye 200gr RN Chrono: Hi 838 Lo 823 Avg 829 4.9gr Bullseye 200gr RN Chrono: Hi 838 Lo 803 Avg 824 Chrono string 2: Hi 836 Lo 812 Avg 822 I had been loading 4.7 gr of Bullseye on a SWC and getting an average of 837 fps. But I switched to a RN because I had a couple SWC's not feed. It seems like the higher gr in the RN does not go as fast. Am I missing something or is this normal?
  5. OK, so I played today, after I shot an IDPA match (using factory ammo for now). I played with 230gr RN and 200gr RN Hi-Tek coated bullets from Bayou. I found a load that I am very happy with and grouped like the SWC. However, I really like the 200 RN. They grouped very nice and the lighter, snappier recoil felt nice. The 230 grouped nice but recoil felt heavier. I may just avoid the SWC for now and stick with round nose. I loaded 4.6gr and 4.8gr of Bullseye for the 200gr RN. Both very accurate, and both meet PF for IDPA CDP. I may just load 47 to make sure I keep PF for matches.
  6. OK, I loaded some 230gr with 4.3 gr of Bullseye. They chrono'd at like 763 fps for an average. They just didn't group like the 200gr SWC. Do I need to play with powder charge? I set the OAL to 1.250. Is that correct?
  7. Sorry, not so sound dumb, but can you explain? What is RS Competition?
  8. So I have been playing around with reloads in my 1911 for IDPA matches. I shoot an Ed Brown Kobra that has shot thousands of factory 230gr FMJ without EVER having a feed issue. A lot of people recommended 200gr SWC. I ordered a box of 500 from Bayou of their Hi-Tek coated. I worked up a round of 4.7 gr of Bullseye and it groups like crazy and meets PF for IDPA. However, occasionally I get a FTF on the feed ramp. I had been setting the OAL to 1.250, I loaded a few bumping that down to 1.240 and plan to run those tomorrow. I kept going to the SWC because the grouped so nice. Maybe I need to play with the RN more. Based on a search on this forum it sounds like SWC are very finicky in the 1911. Maybe I can get them to run, but it sounds like I should focus on the RN. I loaded some RN and they shot fine, they just didn't group like the SWC. Here is what I have to play with in the photo below. Left to right 230gr RG Bayou Hi-Tek (I have a 100 rnd pack) 200gr SWC Bayou Hi-Tek (I have about 300 left) 200gr RN Bayou Hi-Tek (I have a 100 rnd pack) 200gr copper plated FN (the local gun shop sold me a 500 rnd box when I did my class).
  9. OK, I ordered the Hornady New Dimension seating die and a micrometer stem. I also ordered the separate taper crimp die, it was only $22 and seemed so much simpler than the combination one I got. I will remove the powder cop die and maybe return it, but I will visually inspect the cases for powder before I place the bullet.
  10. Thanks! Wow, the Alliant site had 5.7, no wonder it was hot.
  11. Thanks Everyone! Calls Shots, that is just a reflection, bad pic on my part, just a quick pic with my phone. So it sounds like I should remove the powder cop, and do it in two separate stations. So, do I get the Hornady dedicated seating die and keep my crimping die but remove the seating stem? Or use my current die for seating and get a dedicated crimping die?
  12. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o87/jmphotog/Mobile%20Uploads/image_1.jpg Thats funny, it wouldn't let me post a pic because I am a new user, but I can post a link.
  13. It is only hanging in the crimp station, I tried it with only one round at a time to confirm. It is measuring .471 at the case mouth. I tried posting a pic, but it gave me an error and said I can't because I am a new member.
  14. Can anyone share a starting recipe for 230gr RN Hi-Tek or similar bullet with Bullseye? Or I do have some Universal too. I am trying rounds for IDPA. I am currently liking 200gr SWC Hi-Tek on 4.7gr Bullseye, its nice lower recoiling, makes CDP power factor, but I want to try 230. I tried the recipe on Alliant's web of 5.7, but it was so hot and shot at like 920 fps. Thanks!
  15. I am new to reloading and just set up a brand new Hornady LNL for 45 acp. I have the Hornady dies. I watched the videos on their setup and read the manual. The only slight problem I am running into is with the seating and crimping station. I am using the Hornady die that seats and crimps. I have the die set for my desired 200gr SWC Hi-Tek bullets at 1.250 and it is crimped and passing the chamber check. However, on the downstroke, the bullet seems to stick when exiting the crimp die?? So much that it shakes the press when it releases. 1) Am I crimping it too much? 2) I am using their powder cop die in the extra opening. Since I am not planning on blazing out rounds, instead going at a nice safe pace, would I be better served by removing the powder cop and getting two separate dies to seat and crimp? I may be planning trying different bullets, but once I find my load (which I think I have it narrowed down to 200gr SWC Hi-Tek on 4.7gr Bullseye) I don't plan on changing anything. But if I do experiment, it seems like the seating/crimp die takes so much tweaking that adjusting it for different bullets will be a pain. Thanks for your time and thoughts!
  16. Hello all, this is my first post here and I just started reloading a couple weeks ago. I am reloading primarily for 45acp in IDPA for both cost and to find an accurate load that is a little lighter than factory 230gr FMJ. I shoot an Ed Brown Kobra 5' and typically shot Federal American eagle 230gr FMJ. In a few thousand rounds of factory ammo (knock wood) I have never ever had any feed issues. So I started reloading and took a class at a local store. The guy that taught me got me set up with Universal 5.8gr and 200gr copper plater flat nose. I was not real fond of the universal, seemed slow. So at the suggestion of many I tried Bullseye. I also ordered 200gr SWC Hi-Tek from Bayou and loaded 4.9gr of Bullseye. So here are my questions based on the Bullseye loads. 1) The 200gr SWC groups nice in my gun, but now POA/POI has changed to shooting slightly high compared to what I was used to with factory. Is it the bullet or the load? 2) I had two rounds in about 100 that did not RTB during feeding. Again, never happened to 230gr FMJ. My COL was 1.235. Seems like a lot of possible SWC and 1911's being finickey. Also lots of match shooters seem to like 230gr round nose for matches. Should I be thinking of trying 230 gr RN given my first and second question? If so, what? Lots of people on here seem to like X-Treme? Hi-Tek? Thanks!
