Also, if you differentiate smiths just by a name recognition you’re doing many that actually spend time on the details a disservice. You’ve mentioned a few that in my opinion are awful and have zero attention to detail or quality work in my opinion.
The “good” smiths not only know how to build a gun and why. They put superior attention to the details. Machine marks, propper tolerances, proper gaps in comps.. etc. then the prep before finish.. etc. there are gun builders then there are artists who sweat every detail and “good enough” isn’t good enough. Not by a long shot.

After reading your posts,  I’m even more excited about the hybrid/island pistol we are in the process of building!  Sounds like it will be a beauty!

    Ask Don.
I’m sure he’s built every variant there is several times.
if I was spending bucks on a custom gun id  get all the info I could out  of the Builder. His experience can’t be matched.
you are kinda paying for that.

Yes sir,  we have talked about it and I think I know what I want to go with.

I have not handled Venom guns, so I have no comment.  I have handled many Atlas gun, and shoot with 5 or 6 people who own them.  At one time Atlas was a reasonable deal.  No more.  Now you pay full custom pricing for what is no more than a semi-custom gun.  I'd MUCH rather have a Brazos semi-custom or a Warwick Tactical semi-custom for around $3500 each.   Wait for either is days.

If you are looking for a full custom gun where you can specify how it looks and handles, etc.,  then by all means contact Brazos, Venom, D2, etc.

If you are looking for an Open gun, forget Atlas.

valid points.  Thank you!  The more I look at venom or the semi-custom builders the more I’m drawn to them.

  4. Getting ready to purchase, or order, a new Doublestack 9mm that will be range use only.    I’m interested in the Guncrafter Hellcat x2, Atlas Athena, and Nighthawk TRS comp.  The guncrafter has a 7 month wait, atlas is pretty quick, and nighthawk is 22-24 months.  I like the features, and camo patterns on the Guncrafter, but I’ve never held one.  Am I giving up anything with the GC over the Atlas or NH?

  5. I’ve been toying with the idea of picking up a quality 2011 style pistol. I’ve found a cheely built pistol as well as a brazos high performance modified edge.  Is one better than the other at this point,  or am i spitting hairs? This is a purely range/plinking pistol.   I’m also looking at an atlas titan,  don’t know much about either of the guns.
