  1. Can somebody tell me the exact barrel lengths on the STI Tactical 2011 in the 4.0 and the 3.0? Silly me I thought the 4.0 was 4" and the 3.0 was 3" now I'm being told that the 3.0 is 3.75??????

Can't find it on STI web site anymore or I don't know where to look since I guess they don't make the STI 2011 Tactical's anymore.

  2. The gun is not exactly a stock series 70 government model. It's had a trigger job and adjustable trigger install back in the day. It has some brand of adjustable rear sight with outlined white notch that I installed as a direct replacement for the factory rear sight. The front sight had a red insert installed, but these sights are still the low profile and not as visible as the newer sight sets. I had also installed a extend safety and slide release. At one time I put a beaver tail safety on it and bobbed the hammer, but somewhere along the way I re-installed the factory grip safety.

Trigger is still good. It does have the old prong bushing in it and associated factory barrel. The front sight is a little bit loose after the thousands of rounds I have shot thru the gun. Also there is a little slop in the slide fit, not terrible bad. Gun is still reasonably accurate but I'm thinking there is room for improvement.

In addition to the sights, I'm thinking a new commander style hammer, grip safety with speed bump, maybe a match barrel.

Terrydoc - thanks for the pics I like the sights. Is that first one the Kensight?

  3. I'm thinking about bring my old 45 colt 1911 into the new era with some upgrades. This is a gun I used in "Combat shooting" back in the late 70's. What upgrades would you all recommend?

First thing on my list is some new sights. I was wanting to have the front sight slot milled so I can put some type of fiber optic in with a dovetail groove and do away with the staked in front sight. I'd like to have a adjustable rear sight but not sure what exactly. I was thinking about a more low profile adjustable rear than a bomar type. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Tony H.

  4. Went to pick it up, but NICS is down. Gaaaahhhh!

I did inspect it, however. The one I got doesn't have the IBF, but does have some corrosion on the grip safety. Front sight looks to be no bueno, also. Other than that, it's in great condition, tight as a swiss watch, and came with 5 mags.

I'll get it for good as soon as NICS comes back up.

It's plain for an SVI, no doubt, but considering the mags and that there are no major issues with it, I think I got a good deal. My goal was cheaper than an STI edge new, with 4 mags. This is that by a long shot, considering I'd be smithing all over a stock STI to get it to where I like it (and this SVI is already there, aside from sights).

There are going to be pictures, right ........ RIGHT. We need first hand pics to make this valuable. :roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow:

  5. Actually the Para's do use grip panels on their 2011 / double stack mag guns. As does Rock Island.

However based on the OP post I'd say he was talking about a modular 2011 pistol where there are 3 basic pieces Slide, Frame, and Modular Grip.

  6. A racker is a nice addition but many get by without one.

I "got by" without a racker for a few years - LOVE my

    new racker ...

Used to leave each match with blood on my hands

from racking the TruBor and clearing malfunctions,

    until I got the racker.

Well worth the few pesos.

Yikes! You needed a gun that ran, more than you needed a racker Jack! :roflol:

Took me a year to realize it was all one of my four mags

that Dawson Precision had "customized" for me. :surprise:

Fixed that mag - no more malfunctions.

Wow so I can put my pen down and not mark the Trubor off my list!!!! :roflol::roflol:

I may have to "pinch it" for a while before I put a racker on mine (if I get it). What did you use Jack? Got any pictures?

  7. If I was buying a single stack 9mm 1911 it would be a Dan Wesson PM9. It's not under 1K unless you can find a used one.

I have one and I have a Trojan in 9mm too. For the money the DW is miles ahead of the Trojan. One's I have seen are around $1400.00 but they are worth it! My DW makes weight on IDPA, just BARELY under the 43 oz limit and that is with the added mag well. I could put an aluminum guide rod in it to shave off some more if I need too. I tried a DP tool less guide rod but it would not fit in the Wesson PM9.

  8. Nice gun.

I have been saving up for an open gun myself, and the Trubor in certainly on the list. Like you I hoping to have one gun and switch part to run both major and minor loads. Let us know how she runs.

    Congratulations!

  9. Not sure where to post this but I was wondering how you go about shipping a gun to the new owner if you sell it online or through the classifieds on here.

I know it has to go to an FFL but does it need to be shipped from a local FFL to the purchasers FFL or will the purchasers FFL take a gun from an individual?

Has anybody used the shipmygun.com website that is a part of Buds guns shop?

I played around with an imaginary shipping a $1500.00 handgun from Texas to NY State and with UPS or FedEx next day air with insurance it was about $100 to $110. The same thing thru shipmygun.com was about $59.00 but it doesn't look like you need to be an FFL to ship to an FFL.

Anybody have any experience with this that they are willing to share?

  10. Trijicon RMR with a 6 MOA dot. I was worried about the 6 MOA dot but out to where I shoot at 25 to 50 yards, I wobble more than 3 inches @ 50 yrds. And mostly I shoot lots less than 25 yrds. I'm waiting for the Vortex Viper to come out. I will probably try one as the glass looks bigger than my RMR07.

  11. What firearm are you loading for? The mag will sometimes be the determining factor with OAL. In general, yes, when you change bullet design, your OAL will usually change.

Sometimes nose dives can be remedied by bending the spring coil under the follower up or replacing the mag spring. When did this start?

    Sent from the range

The ones that is giving me trouble are 1911's - Trojan mostly it doesn't like either. A little hesitation with the Dan Wesson PM9 but only on the HP, and I did load them short at 1.085. THe FP at 1.100 work somewhat ok but the flat tends to be smaller on FP than on the HP.

Sort it yourself, for any gun barrel/bullet combination.

    Here's how: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=34225.msg189131#msg189131

I've seen that before, may need to try it. I think i'd run out of magazine space before I run out of chamber but maybe not. I'll check it out when I get home.

I'll check the chamber and load them out as long as I can and still get them in the magazine.

    Thanks

  12. You guys are talking me in to it. I should have never clicked on this thread,lol...

You along with many of us.

1+ I like the look of open guns. Have been looking at the trubors for a while thinking about USPSA and steel shooting. Dang now I'm wanting the DVC open gun. And worse than that I'm wishing for a DVC in black. Lol

  13. I have both Dan Wesson PM9 and Trojan in 9mm. I agree the Dan Wesson is a better gun right out of the box between these two.

Another consideration would be an STI Eagle in 40. You'd have the magazine capacity for USPSA and could down load the 40 to minor power factor for IDPA. It would be an ESP gun for IDPA so unless you wanted the option to shoot the .45 in CDP in IDPA you could have a pretty good compromise gun in the 40 Eagle. Bad news is the Eagles are quite a bit more than the others.

Also 40 is a little cheap to buy or reload over 45.

  14. Not a hundred percent sure, but I think the firing pin spring that Wolff sends with the recoil springs is the extra power ones that they recommend. Since most of these 2011 and lots of 1911 are series 70 guns with out the firing pin block the extra power springs give you a little more inertia protection if you drop the gun muzzle down.

(But I have been known to be wrong, just ask my wife. :roflol: )
