  1. I'm noticing the loaded chamber indicator hole on the back of the barrel on my M&P Core shoots out gas that leaves fouling and residue on the glass of my vortex venom optic. Anyone experiencing the same and have a solution or suggestions how to plug it? I have an apex match barrel in it, and as far as I can tell all aftermarket barrels include that hole.

  2. Had a lot of fun watching John Wick 2, not great on trigger safety though. In one scene he walks down a staircase and clearly has his finger on the trigger. Then again, when your John Wick, maybe everything is a target so you don't need trigger safety.

  3. Started out with a 9mm RCBS bullet feeder die and ran into a ton of issues. Off recommendations I read online, tried cutting off the plastic flashing, putting two rubber bands on the plastic collets and even the 147 gr RN xtreme bullets I was using wouldn't drop reliably. Worse, when filling the tube up again sometimes all the bullets would fall through. Have read that hollow points might work better.

Switched to a Hornady bullet feeder die and 3d printed an adapter to use the RCBS tubes. Works much, much better.

  4. I got both the Vortex Viper and Venom 6 MOA to compare. I liked the Viper on my M&P, but found that I could clearly see a flicker in it when moving it around and it wasn't at full brightness. Even got a second one to confirm that all Vipers had the same issue. Whether it mattered enough when shooting I'm not sure, might even have helped in drawing the eye to it.

It bothered me enough that I wanted to see what the Venom 6 MOA would be like when it was released. Venom has a little bit taller base. Battery port is on top, which is nice since you don't have to take it off its mount to replace it. Buttons are also a little smaller, which I like. No locking screws like the Viper, which might be better since they won't get blocked on guns with iron sights in the way. The red dot doesn't have the flicker issue, but is more orange, similar to the Burris Fastfire 3. In fact since they're both made in the Philippines I'd bet it's coming from the same source. I might prefer how red the dot is on the Viper, though, feels like it draws the eye more.

I thought the window on the Venom was wider because it extends out past the base, but it's about equivalent with the Viper. Height-wise the window might actually be a little shorter.

    Anyone else compare the two?

The M&P front sights are a bitch to remove. After bending the blade on my sight pusher and mushrooming a brass drift, I finally got it to move with a steel punch.

Make sure you put it against a hard surface, an armorer's block might not cut it. I used a piece of hardwood.

Going back in, lots of sights are oversized, use a good diamond file and try it slowly. Couple swipes, test fit, swipe, fit, etc. It should move 1/3 of the way into the dovetail

This. I put in dawson sights and removing the rear sight was a breeze compared to the front. A good vise will help, and I also had to use a steel punch.

  6. I had the Chiappa 22 upper, which some people have had issues with, but worked fine for me. I've been using the M&P 15-22 mags (they're loose, but do fit in a regular AR lower, and are more reliable than any other mag I've used). I did crack one of the front lugs on the plastic upper trying to torque on a free float handguard, but was able to replace it with a mil-spec aluminum upper and it's been running great since.
