  1. Okay after doing some research I decided to try mounting my DAA Racer mag pouches bullets out. So there is a mounting hole that allows you to do that. However, I find that when I put in the center screw in that hole to mount it that the head of the screw interferes with the tension adjusting wheel. It is too big and there is no countersinking in the mounting hole to accomodate the head so it either screws down with the edge of it on top of the adjusting wheel or underneath, either of which messes with the adjusting wheel - one pre-tensions it more than I want the other locks it solidly against the mag pouch. Am I doing something wrong here?
  2. I've seen this alluded to but no discussions about it. Of course on Stoeger's pro shop they make comments on their product page about how "cool you will look" with your mags facing out, but then I hear other comments in passing on other posts that seem to dissuade you from doing it that way. Is there any particular advantage you find one way or the other with the mag orientation?
  3. I just received a Boss DOH holster for my CZ SP-01 and have a question about the offset and positioning. USPSA rules for a production pistol states 2" for Production division from gun to the belt. I am using a CR belt with the inner and outer belt. Is the 2 inch measurement from the innermost part of the gun (the safety is the innermost point)? Is it measured to the inner belt or the outer belt? Also the rules state that the heel of the butt of the gun cannot be below the belt, is the heel of the butt the rearward-most portion of the butt of the gun?
  4. 3 part question both involving slide lock release. Part 1: I am doing a lot of dry fire practice between range sessions. A lot of stuff goes like this: Draw and shoot 6 times, reload, acquire target and shoot 6 times again. Does anyone make it a habit to have the slide locked back and practice the slide lock release as part of some of their dry fire practice? Part 2: How do most of you release your slide? Do you use your weak hand or your trigger hand (thumb)? Does anyone rack the slide at all (I am guessing not as that seems to take too much time). Part 3: In actual competition does anyone not fire the entire magazine (i.e., say in USPSA production class you use up 9 rounds out of 10, drop the magazine and load a new one, thus avoiding the slide lock back on an empty magazine) or does everyone use up all their ammo before doing a speed reload? One of the reasons I ask is that I've read that I should use the support hand thumb to release the slide, however due to an old skiing injury to that thumb it is sometimes painful to use it in that manner so a slide lock release with my support hand thumb is a 50/50 proposition depending on the day (some days it hurts some days it's fine) so if I train to use the support hand thumb I will have to change it up in the event of a day when I am experiencing pain in that thumb.
  5. Yes So I assume from Scott's post before I should order the pads for the 17 round Mecgars to fit my 15 round mags? Just want to make sure before I order.
  6. Yes Great, I'll be placing an order soon!
  7. So what's the verdict, will they fit the15 round mags?
  8. They won't work with the 10 round mags. How about the 15 round Mecgar mags?
  9. I've noticed that people seem to carry 4 or 5 mag pouches...and I've seen no rules in the book that limit the number of magazine pouches. I assume there is no limit and everyone is basing the number of magazines on how much they expect to use on a stage, correct (along with that I assume carrying more doesn't make sense since you are just lugging around more weight).
  10. USPSA Production is limited to 10 rounds? Good to know. Does that mean I have to have 10 round mags or am I allowed to load 10 rounds in a 15 round mag?
  11. I plan on competing this year for the first time (kind of obvious from my question...) and want to know what is the minimum and recommended number of mags for competition. I come from the (horrible) state of NJ so I am limited to 15 round mags. That said, I plan on having some mags for practice only (4) to take the brunt of reloading etc. But for a match of course I'll have a different set. How many do I need for a typical stage of a match? How many should I have as backup in case I have a failure? I plan on using Mecgar mags for my CZ75 so I would hope they are fairly reliable. And of course I know there won't be a hard and fast rule about how many but I'd like some opinions.
  12. Just placed my order for a CZ SP-01 Shadow Custom...now just have to wait 10 weeks and add water (or ammo)...thanks everyone!
  13. Isn't a decocker gun one that has DA/SA? Forgive my ignorance of CZ but I have Sigs and HKs and they all are DA/SA with decocker (I like that particular manual of arms...).
  14. Just got clarification....USPSA rules, so that opens up things a bit more for me. What exactly is different with a Shadow variant? I'm looking at one with drop free mags, is that legal for USPSA production?
  15. I just sent email to my clubs competition director to clarify. The calendar says IPSC but the events page says "IPSC USPSA" so that affects what I can get for the production class.
  16. Is there anything that I would need the light rail for in a competition gun (thinking the production division of IPSC and USPSA)?
  17. I see listings for both CZ75 SP-01 Shadow and CZ75 Shadow - is this the same model or are they 2 different models? Also are there 15 round magazines available for the Shadow (I live in the not-so-great republic of NJ where we have a 15 round mag limit)?
  18. I am practicing with my CCW and home defense guns until I get a gun for competition - I prefer center of mass sight picture but my CCW gun (H&K P2000SK) uses combat sight picture where the gun is sighted for the dot to cover the target. When I use paper targets, the bullseye is actually pretty small in comparison to the dot of the front sight when I'm aiming it so my precision in covering the dot is not very good in that I don't know if it's in the center of the dot or slightly off. I could try concentrating on the concentric rings around the bullseye but it gets hard if I am hard focused on the front sight. Outside of changing the sights that would give me the center of mass sight picture I like (where the top edge of the sight is the aim point and put at the exact center of the target) is there any tricks that could help me with this?
  19. I couldn't find anything regarding trigger mods, in Wikipedia (yes, I know, it's not 100% reliable but...) someone states that "Minor polishing and fitting of trigger components is allowed," this sounds like it fits under Professor Atlas Tuning 101 thread...
  20. Okay I started shooting this year again after many years away (first started shooting in College but wandered away as I pursued other interests after college). Long story short I got back into firearms with the intention of home protection (post Hurricane Sandy and seeing how other disasters played out such as Katrina) but soon found I enjoyed it, moreso than when I was in college. I first got an AR, then a Ruger 10/22, then a Sig Sauer P229, then another P229 (so I could have a home defense pistol with a practice gun of the same manual of arms), then I got my CCW and a H&K P2000SK as my carry pistol. I've been thinking of competing soon and looked into what pistol to get next. Originally was going to get something like an H&K VP9 or USP 9mm Expert but then realized that since I already had 3 guns intended as defensive pistols why handicap myself to Sig Sauer and H&K if there were possibly better alternatives out there. So I went on these forums and started reading and right now I've narrowed my choices down to CZ and Tanfoglio. I am lookking to start with IPSC (because they run at my range all the time) Production class so I want a pistol that is legal for that. With CZ I'm looking at the CZ75 SP-O1 Shadow and it appears that it is legal, however every one I find on Gunbroker looks like it has had some "tuning" from CZ's Custom shop. My question is what kind of tuning is permitted? It seems that the production division is pretty restricted, so would something like the "CZ Tuning 101 with Professor Atlas" thread be permitted or prohibited? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if my questions seem overly simplistic, I'm a new guy looking to learn and get better.
