  1. The popple holes create down force at a different point in time during the recoil arch keeping the gun "flatter"

Personally, I like it loud so bring on the noise!

The real "answer" is to make a decision, stick with it, and train your face off.  The holes will not matter one bit positive or negative when you practice enough.

    BOOM!

Bobby> It was great shooting with you this past weekend at the Area 4 match. Your new 510C setup seemed to be working great from what I seen.

I have actually been testing out the 510C on my Open gun with the Tevo Sports mount. So far I have tried the single and double sided mounts. The single sided mount produced a a strange dot tracking movement while shooting. Its hard to describe the dot movement exactly but it looked like an upside down "T" while shooting fast. The dot never left the glass while I shot, it just had a strange movement pattern. I suspected this was due to a little bit of flex in the mount during recoil because of the overall heavier weight of the sight verses my other Delta Point Pro setup. I swapped the single sided mount for the Tevo Sports double sided mount and it completely solved the strange dot tracking movement. Now the dot tracks straight up/down in a very predictable streak. Given the size and weight of the 510C compared to other red dots, I think a double sided mount is required to produce consistent dot tracking. That is at least for shooter who grip the gun effectively enough to keep the dot within the glass at all times while shooting. The shooters who allow their gun to muzzle flip excessively are probably not going to even notice a difference between a single or double sided mount because the dot is completely leaving the glass anyway while the gun is flopping around like a trout within their hands. That sounds harsh, but it is what it is.

The second thing that I noticed with the 510C vs the Delta Point Pro is that the magnitude of up/down dot movement within the glass during recoil is almost identical. This confused me at first because the glass on the 510C is way larger than the DPP. But then I compared the glass mounting position between the two sights and their mounts. The DPP with a Cheely single sided mount is almost an inch further back than the 510C with the Tevo Sports mount. Since the 510C is further forward the same amount of muzzle flip will translate to more dot movement within the glass. Both setups produce a dot tracking movement that stays within the glass while I shoot it, so its not distracting. I just expected the magnitude of up/down dot movement to be less with the 510C due to the larger glass size.

The primary advantage that I noticed with the 510C + Tevo Sports mount is that the much larger glass was WAY more forgiving when it came to presenting the gun on target one handed (Strong or Weak Hand). I can punch the gun out one handed in a less than optimal presentation and the dot is still somewhere within the glass. This doesn't happen with the DPP setup due to its smaller glass. If your gun handling and presentation mechanics are not solid with the smaller glass sights then the dot will NOT be in the glass when you punch the gun out which leads to the dreaded wrist wiggle trying to find the dot. This in itself isn't a huge advantage as the proper gun handling mechanics should result in the dot being centered in the glass at all times when the gun is in between your face and the target. You simply have a little more leeway with the bigger glass on the 510C.

The biggest challenge I see with the 510C is its overall length causing the back end to be in the way of ejected brass. I am on my second round of Extractor/Ejector tuning and still have inconsistent brass ejection trajectory on my gun. A big part of this is due to me using 9mm Major which produces inconsistent ejection as it is. But I have experienced a few jams where the brass hits the under side of the sight (Back right corner on the under side of the sight) then gets caught between the top of the slide and the under side of the sight. You need the brass to eject consistently at the 2 - 3 O'clock trajectory for it to clear the under side of the sight and not cause ejection issues. This is likely not an issue with .38 Super/Super Comp guns as its much easier to produce a consistent ejection trajectory verses 9mm Major. I am going to try tuning my ejector and extractor a few more times before giving up on it. But right now that is the primary issue I am facing with the 510C + Tevo Double Sided mount setup.

I would like to see a mount with a blast shield.....My gun makes a mess of glass even with a shield. I can't imagine what it would be like without it.

Does anyone else notice a difference in dot tracking with a single sided mount?  I found that REALLY interesting.

  3. With all of that "communication", how many were NOT answered?

Two replies from you about the gun when you had it.

Real happy to communicate payment arrangements though.

If you would have just said that it was going to take a week or two to finish and test, that would have been a bummer but I would have understood and gladly paid the bill.

But you would not answer me.  Really that simple.

Take that for what it is worth

  4.
I agree completely.  Every builder I know has what I consider communications issues that wouldn't fly in the rest of the business world.  That said, they are all small operations and we are all like kids wanting our new toys.  We are excited and we can really overwhelm them with "is it ready yet" calls and messages.  I am guilty of this myself.
Yeah. I get it. I felt bad every time I asked. He is a family guy with kids and I am too. So I know what a stress that can be keeping up. I didnt want to put his name out there I just wanted to vent a bit and not cause any trouble.
I feel bad this got out of hand so quick.
I hate pushy customers and if I came off that way, I apologize.

To be fair. When I first got that gun, I asked some questions about the mounting screw size and he responded on a weekend with what I needed. So I was super pumped about that.

    Well that was..... interesting

  5. Ok I didnt blast but now I will. And I didnt put your name out there you did.
Your public messenger account also states that you can be contacted on that account.
7 days of no contact after you received it. Finally got a message saying "I'm trying"
5 more days pass. I asked 2 times in those 5 days for an update. Here is the response

You ask every day the gun is cut, just finishing it up. Please be patient.

Didnt ask every day. 2 times.

3 more days pass and I ask. He says done and we sort out payment.

I pay and get radio silence again. All that I ask is can it ship so I can make sure someone is home to pick it up.

No issues with the work or the price. But would it have killed you to say it is going to take a week or two? I could have sorted another gun out in the meantime. If you don't want business on that messenger account, dont do business there.
Again I wasn't putting your name out there you did that. I was asking for other people's thoughts because I was a it aggravated over the situation. Wanted to know if others felt the same.

Disappointed in the communication is how I feel. Maybe take that as constructive criticism and try to improve that for your business.

Put your self in my shoes after you miss your local match you help run and set up, then miss a major a few weeks later.

This would be a "thing" if you said hay man, this is a mess and I will get it fixed. Give me a week or two and I will let you know. I would be bummed, but that is something I would understand. But radio silence (for the most part) isnt good business practice.

  6. My gun is from a big name builder.  I sent it off to have it worked on.  When I contacted him, he was thinking a couple of days.  Turns out that it has been gone for 29 days.

Just got the shipping info today after asking for it 5 times.

I understand that things take time, and I was willing to pay extra to have overnight shipping, but there was next to no communication.  When he did communicate, it wasn't exactly "nice".

I missed a major match (that i paid for) and 3 weeks of the season. So needless to say I wasn't happy.  I was nice every time I contacted him, but only because he had my gun and I needed it back.

My question is: Do i say the name and warn others?  Or do I just sell the gun when it gets back so I don't have to deal with that again?  When you spend over $5000 on a gun I would just expect a bit more.

This really bummed me out pretty bad.  Now I think that every time I look at it when it gets back, I am just going to be angry about this whole situation.

My experience: avoid the DPP , at least for awhile. I have 3 of them and not one works properly. As per my conversations with Leupold they are not shipping any DPP as of Wednesday. Having a screw problem??......just my horrific experience.

I would disagree with that.  I have had zero issues with mine. Only changed the battery one time that season.

But personally i switched back the the C More Slide ride after shooting the DPP for a season.

I found that I could pick up the dot from strange positions a bit easier with the bigger glass.  And you can see the recoil arch much better as well.

There must be a reason that everyone shot the Slideride for so long.......

    Just another opinion

  8. Seems like the Double Tap is out of stock. Only place I found it is from them directly, but I have never purchased anything from them so I am curious if anyone else has?

    Same with the PT shielded.

Does anyone have a close up PIC of just the shield installed on their gun?

I already have the EVO grip on my blaster if that makes any difference with installing the shield.

    Thanks

    Matt

  9. As the title says.....I need to stop my thumbs from dragging the slide when I death grip it.

I just put a new EGW safety on it, but I couldn't find a shielded one at the time.

So I guess it is a three part question: Seperate shield, new safety, and how hard would it be to install a shield only?

PT EVO grips currently if that makes a difference.

    Thanks

I would buy used.  You will learn what you like and don't like.  Then you can order a gun the way you want.  You'll then have a backup gun once your new gun is finished.

    I second this....

My first and second came from the forums.

You really won't know what you do and don't like until you shoot at least a whole "Season" of USPSA or whatever else you are going to shoot.  In my opinion it will take that long to understand things like what safety works for your hand, what thumb rest is best for your grip type, which optic is best for you and the way you shoot, are you sensitive to recoil......and so on.

Ask LOTS of questions on here, and do a bunch of searching. You will find lots of "answers" but in the end you will have to experience them for your self and make a decision as to what works best for you.

Good luck, and Welcome to the Dark Side!

  11. Well I got her!

What a difference.  I can crank out the ammo faster than ever and I save a ton of time.  Wish I would have done this sooner.

When I went to pick it up I also impulse bought an RF 100 primer loader.  It is a super lazy way to go, but it really is pretty nice to have.

Now I am saving up for an AmmoBot.  I saw some in action and it really seems like a nice product at a reasonable price.  I also like the fact that it leaves a handle that you can manually run the press in the case of an issue.

I do think it is too advanced for someone just getting into reloading.  A 650 or a SDB is a better starter press.

A usual reloading session would be right at 500 rounds for me with the 650.  After that I was irritated with the resizing station not staying aligned and I would just stop.  Now I have cranked out 1200 rounds with out any issues and I can get back to other things.  Like practice or spending time with my two little monsters (kids).  So to me that is totally worth the price of admission.

Thanks for some of your input on the matter, I appreciate it.

  12. If you think that the 650 is "complicated" then stay away from the 1050.

I had a 650 for about 4 years and about 60,000 rounds or more.  I had a few issues but really if you have the bullet feeder and the case feeder all you are doing is pulling the handle.

I moved to the 1050 to get better production rate and I had issues with the resizing station not staying aligned properly.  I was just tired of fussing with it so I got a 1050, bullet feeder, case feeder and the auto primer loader.  Problem solved.

It is a more complex system but better over all.  I would recommend the 650 though.  Just get it tuned up and use the alignment pin that you can purchase and you will be good.

  13. Has anyone used just the shield?

I just recently had EGW ambi put on my Akai but now I am slowing the slide down with my thumb when I am death gripping the gun.

I hate to mess with new safety now, so I was thinking that i would try just the shield.

Done anyone have any opinions on that and which ones do people use?

    Thanks

  14. I just sold one that I had for a season.

That thing just ran and ran.  Some of the machining on the inside was a bit rough, but I worked it out a little at a time.  It never effected how the gun ran at all, just didn't like how it looked when I was cleaning it.

I would highly recommend it to anyone getting into the division.   Buy this gun, buy a bunch of reloading gear for it, and just shoot it!  If you want something fancy when you decide if you like shooting open, then you will know what kind of things you would want on a custom/simi-custom.

And you don't have to worry about replacing crappy STI parts after 5000 rounds.

    :)

  15. Mine has been bulletproof so far.

The only issues I see are:

    •    Rust on the top metal housing
    • After about a few months, the battery gets a small "warn" spot where the terminal contacts the battery.  What I see is a dark warn spot on the otherwise shiny surface

Maybe they did some sort of changes throughout the development process.

Hope you get it worked out

  16. I might give that a shot.

I was hoping that the 38 125's were going to be amazing, but not really.

Maybe I will test them again and see what the result is.  But I have a decent load that is very accurate and scares away nosy RO's.

    :)

Are you still using AA7? 124s?

    What's your load?

    Yep.

I tried HS6 and it wasn't as accurate after I finished the testing

    I am at 10.6 AA#7 and 124's.

I tried the 125 38 super bullets from Precision and they shot left and a little bit less accurately.  Truthfully though I only made 50 of them to test though.  10 for the crono, and the rest is basically one big stick worth.  Maybe I should have made a 100 and tested them all at once.  I still have 50 left from the sample pack and I might load them up this week and test again.

I really haven't heard many people talk about using the 38 bullets and not the 9mm's, so I am assuming that most people don't see much advantage.

  18. I hopped up the load and she is running great now. And on a side note, it is super loud and blasty to anyone around me.  That is a big plus as well!

The dot is tracking much better now and I think I'm done messing with the load for the season.

Thanks to the ones that gave some good input, and bite me to the ones that didn't.

    :)

You might want to ask the question "How many Mark 7 users fill up their machines and leave the room to come back to a bin full of loaded ammo?"

That is assuming your plan was to start the machine and then go play with kids, do work around the house, or whatever.  I'm sure the answers will vary but knowing all the facts from actual users could be valuable in helping to make your decision.

Wow, not what I had in mind.  I was thinking that I could be in the room dry firing while it was doing the loading.

I don't leave my kids un monitored and I would do the same for the press.

    Sheesh

  20. Since I moved to open, I am really shooting a lot more.

I have the case feeder and the Mr. Bullet feeder which has made a HUGE improvement, but I still feel like I am spending too much time reloading.  I have two little ones at home, a full time IT job, and I am practicing as much as twice a week.  I need as much time as I can get back.

I am wondering how much I can get for my 650 so I can move up to the 1050 and then save for the Mark 7 next season.

Sounds like you're looking for something that doesn't exist.  Set your load to 170 pf and get to work.  Once you learn to shoot your open gun well, then maybe you can have some success with load tinkering.  For now, you're working backwards.

    Not at all....

That is what I did with my last gun. I got the load working well and just left it there for the whole season.

I have a gun that is built to race and I just want to take advantage of that.  Trust me, I have no love for reloading.  I just want to take advantage of the V8 and get to shooting!
