  1. Using 147gr Xtreme plated bullies .3565-.357 dia.

Some feed through the die without problem and others jam. I can push the jammed one or two through and it resumes feeding.

Hornady told me that the feeder die is intended for jacketed heads.

Anyone solve this issue? Reloading a few hundred rounds with a bullet feeder is not only fast, it allows me to pay more attention to the powder fill. I'd hate to have to stop using it.

  2. Purchased the Match about 3 years ago as a 45acp.

Have been running it with a 9mm long slide conversion.

Installed the Henning flat trigger [medium] and tuned it for shortest travel.

Henning trigger and a F/O sight are my favorite mod to this gun.

Everyone who tries the trigger loves it.

When I reinstall the 45 from time to time, the hammer does not always reset.

I can cock it by hand and fire the round. This happens once per mag, sometimes more.

Would hate to readjust the trigger since most of my current shooting is done in 9mm.

Any thought on tuning are appreciated.

Issue was not present until the new trigger was installed.

Did notice that the 9mm showed similar behavior if the pre travel was too short. I had to allow for a bit more pre-travel for the 9mm to run 100%.

  3. Just ordered a Stock 3 in 40sw. No discount on this baby.

It is destined for USPSA production, where it will use the 9mm slide from my Match.

The 40sw slide will ride the Match frame for Limited/limited 10.

Maybe after I use up my stash of 9mm brass, I may try 40 minor for production. Ordered two sets of springs in anticipation.

Also have lighter hammer spring and extended firing pin in the package.

Will have a F/O front and Xtreme grips.

Now I have to find a holster for my Nuevo Amico [new friend].

  4. I just set up my LNL for my first reloading run. Have read numerous AOL numbers in the forums , from 1.12 to 1.15. The spec for 9mm is 1.165. Measuring factory ammo, I get 1.163. This is confusing.

Even more interesting, my Xtreme RN are much longer than factory FMJ heads.

Perhaps the length that makes the difference is the internal chamber length of the round? Anyone have those dimensions?

You really need to take some time to do a lot more reading before shooting any of those reloads. The LNL is a great press and I have loaded many thousands of 9-major loads that have worked flawlessly on mine, but please take the time to learn as much as possible first. Your cartride OAL will be determined by the chamber of the gun you are loading for. Typically this is anywhere from 1.10 to 1.165. Many people load as long as possible with the thought of keeping the pressure down....others try several different lengths in search of the best accuracy. As long as the rounds fit in your mags and don't engage the rifling when chambered, you will be good to go.

    Desmo,

First, I apologize if my question has diverted the thread but I think the question is in line with what the OP is seeking.

Although I am completely new to reloading for myself, I've dealt with similar issues in other industries.

I understand the relationship of barrel chamber length to OAL. Produced a few custom barrels in my machine shop days.

Mag size parameters are a given as well.

Powder Mfr. load data addresses safe OAL for specific bullet models, without providing the physical dimensions of these heads.

If the OAL of a bullet in known, it can be subtracted from the OAL of the cartridge, providing the chamber length [including case base].

If the powder chamber is reduced in volume, pressure will rise and may rise catastrophically at a certain minimum volume for a given powder.

It may be advisable to note the internal chamber length in evaluating load results. If a different bullet length is used, the starting[safe] OAL could be readily determined from chamber length previously established and tested for the same powder.

The minimum AOL given for a powder charge may be unsafe if my bullet is .100 longer - as is the case with the Xtreme 147gr which are .100 longer than factory heads I pulled.

Evaluating loads with different bullets and same C.OAL would produce very different results if the length of the heads is different.

A person might assume that one is better than the other when the real difference is the powder chamber size and associated pressure.

Sorry for the long post. Hope the OP finds this helpful.

  6. I was afraid it would have a small frame. I may still go for it if the price is right.

If anyone has a line on a Limited Pro or Stock II, would appreciate a heads up.

    I would go for a 40sw or a 9m. If its a 40, I would swap in my long slide 9mm conversion.

Is it legal to use conversion slides in production? Tanfoglio make them for this purpose, after all.

  7. After shooting several indoor matches this winter, I was eager to hit the first outdoor "official match''.

Having decent results, I confident signed up for USPSA membership, hoping to get an official standing.

On the 5th stage, I was really pumped. I was doing better then I expected and this stage was perfect for me. I ran through it, mentally, a dozen times before my turn came.

Buzzer sounded, aa on the near target, ac ac on the 2 @ 25yd, swing across and run for next two. Again, AA on the first, I am running now, Alpha and JAM..... I see the jam, I know what to do, still pointing at the target, forgot to tell my ass to stop running. Broke the 180 by a hair before I could stop. RO was a nice guy and I saw the look of regret on his face when he tapped me.

Only one stage to go in the match.

Had a great time though. Live and learn.
