  1. Hey, this is a stupid question, but-There's a "Tier 2" match in Berryville this spring, and I can't figure out what that means as applied to this match. Specialty gun? Don't mean to be lazy, but I thought that designation meant BUG, Revolver or whatnot...

  2. Cool.

I know that when I acquire two distinct sight pictures, mine is more of a controlled pair, and very slow, especially with .45 ACP. After thousands of rounds through an M9 over about a 6-week period, I noticed a slight, but perceptible increase in speed.

    I've just lived with it...

Now, what about strong- or weak-hand only? Locked...?

  3. Figure out how to get in the "zone". People evidently reach it in different ways; I use visualization and slow breathing prior to whatever activity I'm about to perform. Helps me to concentrate at a level much closer to optimum.

I don't belong to IDPA or USPSA (as of yet), but I used to have to do a lot of shooting, and I stumbled onto the technique by accident in 1981.

Just take regulated, deep breaths and visualize the drill you're gonna execute, and "allow" yourself to perform while you're still focusing.

  4. I was fortunate in that I just picked up a M&P 45 (4.5) that has a trigger not unlike that of the stock trigger on a few of my 1911's (before any work was done).

I was tickled to realize it would probably just smooth out while I got used to it over the course of a few hundred rounds of range fire, and wouldn't require any smithing or tinkerin'. I like the controls and lack of snap to the recoil; it just might get to be my favorite pistol after a while...

  5. It's been my experience that many old guys maintain fast-twitch and coordination comparable to that of teens. Combine that innate capability with a seasoned mindset and polished shooting and handling skills, and you're looking at a true competitor.

On the flip side, you'll run across old guys such as myself who are just too lazy to excel...
