  1. Looks like the efforts of RedMist, et al have paid off... both revolver divisions are back to 6 shots. Now there's no reason for someone to blow his/her hand off trying to make 165 power factor with a 9mm. :P And the little clip-type moonclip holders like the Cali Comp Works ones are legal... wierd, they look way "gamier" than the Blade-Tech doubles, but hey, small price to pay. Looks like revolver may not be dead in IDPA after all.

  2. This sounds fun... not too far away either... I do have a few questions though... is it a two-day match, or an "either day" kinda thing? Are there capacity limits on any of the guns? What exactly do you mean by "service-type" holsters? Duty gear? I really don't wanna get mine out of storage. :P And are optics allowed on shotguns? I guess that should do it for silly questions, sounds like a hoot.

  3. I still don't understand, nor has anyone tried to explain to me, why, if moonclips offer such a tremendous advantage, why moonclip conversions aren't allowed. Its a whole lot easier and cheaper to have a cylinder cut for clips than to replace a whole gun and its carry gear. The extended slide stop on the Glocks is allowed on all models because its factory available on the 34/35, why can't this logic be extended to revolvers? Then we can all be a nice, happy, 6-shot family again. :D

  4. Shred, my first thought when I read the "all IWB holsters are legal" part of the revision was "how long until some nitwit suffs his Open IPSC rig into a pair or pants that's 8" too big?". Everytime they fix something, they raie three more question. I think the "goal" that HQ has in mind for what they think everybody should use is just going to be impossible to put into a coherant set of rules.

  5. Shoe, I'm shooting my evil 610 anyway, so I don't really care, I'm not going to go out and buy a new revo just to play Bill's game. What I'm wondering is whether or not the rule was specifically written that way to exclude to .38 Super et al. I mean, the wording requires a revolver of .38 caliber (.357) or greater, not a bullet caliber (diameter). Does that mean bore size? I think it needs to be a little clearer. I know this is all terribly nitpicky, but that seems to be the way things have to be in IDPA these days.

  6. Cool, thanks Ted.

By the way, I just noticed something else. In the new, new rule book it list minimum caliber for ESR as .38 (.357) or larger. Does this eliminate the .38 super and 9X23 that the 8-shot guns could be built around? They both use .356 bullets. I know this is really nitpicky, but is that exactly what HQ is trying to do? This could be really interesting... now the "hot setup" for ESR is not only a gun that doesn't exist yet, but now it's chambered for a round that doesn't exist yet either!! :P Can you say 9mm Makarov Magnum? The Mak uses .364 bullets...

  7. I just do it that way because that's how I train with the auto I carry everyday. I'm used to grabbing spare ammo behind the off-side hip. Can I put my moonclips there in IDPA? Reading the rules I'm not sure.

  8. I got another question... what about those of us who reload revolvers the "wrong" way. I keep the gun in my right hand and reload it like the auto I trained on. Providing I can even find moonclip holders that are legal, can I wear them behind my weak-side hip where I wear auto magazines? Right in front of the gun doesn't do me much good. Or is my reloading method "gaming" and should get me FTDRed, DQd, and maybe deported?

  9. Couldn't all this SSR/ESR nonsense be fixed by simply allowing moonclip conversions to be done to any otherwise legal revolver? I know Clark does the conversion for about 80 bucks, and I'm sure any competent gunsmith could do the machining. Then the GP100, Model 10, or whatever could be just as competitive as the dedicated clip guns. Is this just too simple for HQ? Or is Wilson Combat about to introduce a 4" 8-shot .38 super?

  10. I'm with you 'Chucker... how is my WWI-era moonclip technology "gamey" while the springloaded cartridge-launchers that look like Ron Popeil inventions are "street CCW gear"? I just don't get it.

  11. As I posted somewhere else (it's all starting to run together)... For less than I'll spend on carry gear for a new gun to compete in IDPA(I have no doubt that my 610 will be banned), A model 10 or GP100 shooter can have the gun converted to use clips, and still be used with speedloaders or individual rounds. But of course, this would be an illegal modification according to HQ, it's so much nicer to make a large percentage of IDPA revo shooters buy a new gun and gear. Could it be that the main 'smith offering this service is Clark Custom, who just also happens to build custom 1911s?

  12. What's so "gamey" about the Blade-Tech setup? Looks like the most practical, "streetable" setup for carrying moonclips out there. That's why I bought a couple of them. Of course, my gun and the holster I ordered last week for it are IDPA illegal now too, so I guess the moonclip holder thing doesn't matter. Oh well... Outlaw racing, Outlaw biker clubs... I may belong to one of many new Outlaw IDPA clubs.... actually I like the sound or that...
