  1. I've had the Midway large range bag for a couple years... I think I paid $20 or $30 on sale? For the price it's been fantastic, but objectively, it's been pretty poor. The brass bag fell off (just walking across the range, the clip failed). Most of the zipper pulls have failed. One seam has blown. The velcro on the main flap has detached 75% of the way, etc. I've repaired it with some Shoe Goo just bonding the whole thing back together. Honestly though, when mine fails, I might buy it again if I can get it on sale. For the money, it's hard to say no. It's cavernous, holds everything I need, and has had "acceptable" durability.

I've handled the GPS backpack though and if I decided to spend some real money on a range bag, that's probably the direction I would go.

  2. I remember the first time this happened to me. I shot my first 3-gun match with a borrowed (un-bubba'd) SKS. Loaded via clips. One stage had 3 paper targets... so I loaded 3 rounds. Needless to say, each paper only got 1 hit. Sigh....

  3. Welcome. I used to live in the city. Wanting a different lifestyle pulled me out to CO 2 years ago, but already the career strings are starting to hint at pulling me back East. NYC is a vortex from which it is impossible to escape....

  4. My first handgun was a G19 and I shot my first 3-4 matches with that. Then I switched to a CZ SP-01 Tactical and I've been using that ever since. The main reasons I can see switch TO a Glock - cheaper/easier/more accessible gunsmithing, especially DIY stuff, and better accessories availability (although realistically speaking, you can get just about anything you need for CZ).

  5. 1911s (especially the non-.45 variants) have always been more prone to feeding issues with JHPs. Luckily, they can usually be worked out by a competent gunsmith. I'm not aware of any modern gun (say designed 1960 or later, really) that has JHP feeding issues.

Since it doesn't sound like you want to sell the gun, it will certainly be cheaper for you to sell the 5k rounds and buy another 5k case of FMJ. Unless you severely overpaid for the JHPs, you'll probably lose no more than $10-$20 on the buy and sell maneuver.

  6. I have the Ghost Stinger. It's a good holster, just check the screws before every match. Consider some blue loc-tite or other temporary threadlocker. Last year, the holster just spontaneously fell off my belt mid-match and I lost all the little nuts and bolts. Replacing the hardware was a PITA.

  7. Can't speak to the belt system itself but I have been wearing a cobra belt for about 3 years now. It's been perfect, nothing to complain about; yeah it's a PITA sometimes to unlace the buckle when removing the belt from standard pants.

Unlacing won't be an issue - the buckle is on the outer belt. It just wraps around.

The wife thing though... I'll have to see how that plays out in my house :)

  8. I've been using a single layer rigging belt for far too long. Anyone have an opinion on the DSG Arms belt? It's a standard inner/outer combo, however, it has a cobra-style buckle at the front instead of a full velcro wrap.

Uses would be for shooting Production once a month, maybe one or two 3-Gun matches per year, and the occasional tactical/combat class. Forget the high price point, I'm just curious about functionality alone. Do you like the quality? Stiffness? How about the buckle?

  9. Peanut butter and Nutella bagels. Unbeatable. All the sugar, salt, fat, protein, and carbohydrates you need. Make sure to pack them in a ziploc cause they get MESSY in the summer heat.

As an aside, I won't bring anything that is exposed to the air (camelbak valves) or requires touching with my hands (e.g. eating an apple). There's no way to wash my hands, the air is full of dust and lead, and I'm not interested in getting lead poisoning.

  10. Looking to swap out the dim (kinda crappy) sights on my P-01 which is my carry pistol. Not used for competition. Anyone have any recommendations or things they've installed and liked/didn't like?

Right now, I'm aware of the TruGlo TFX Pro sights and the Meprolight TruDot. I've seen some reports that the TFX are designed for the full size 75B though, and cause you to shoot low on a P-01. All input welcome. Thanks!
