  1. What size did you use? Also, any reason why you didn't use a drill? It seems like it would be hard to punch the belt.
  2. If it helps anyone. I have two dropped offset Bladetechs. The holster for a 4.5 XDM is at about 2.5" from inner CR speed belt. The USP Tactical holster is around 2.25-2.5". You will likely have to shim or heat the thing up and bend.
  3. I started a post in multi gun gear about ELS / QLS and the competing TMMS systems, but then I realized there are potentially rule problems specifically regarding the holster. I wanna go modular with my holsters, but I realized that in USPSA there is a 2" to grip from inner belt rule. I use a double belt (CR Speed). I have 3 bladetech holsers, 2 are dropped and offset and barely meet the 2" requirement with shims. Does anyone use the large TMMS or the QLS with a Bladetech DOH holster? Are you anywhere near the 2" requirement? Could you shim or modify it to be within it? I'm gonna be pissed if I buy 3 adapters for my holsters and none are legal in USPSA. Thanks.
  4. I'm trying to build a more modular belt system so I can remove mag pouches / shell holders between stages without belt removal. If it's secure enough, being able to swap holsters would be a big plus. So I've got a CR speed belt that works well and I wasn't planning on changing. I've got CR speed versa mag pouches and some carbon arms pinwheels on blade tech tek locks. The last thing is a blade tech AR mag pouch on Tek lock. I was looking at the blade tech TMMS systems for the shotgun shell holders. I also have a couple of blade tech holsters on adjustable stingray loops, some dropped and offset. I would also like to remove a mag pouch easily, but I don't know if that's possible with the CR speed mag pouches. I also noticed Safariland has the ELS / QLS systems. Here's my questions. Please let me know any experience / knowledge you have with any of the below. Is either of the safariland systems better than TMMS? Are there other modular gear on / off options that don't require belt removal? Can the large blade techs TMMS's adequatly hold a holster? Can you drop and offset a holster with TMMS? Can you somehow secure a CR speed single mag pouch on a TMMS? Are modular belt systems just a waste of money? I thought about this last year and after a 3 gun event today I'm revisiting it. It seemed like I always had 3 times what I needed in the handgun or shotgun category. I'd also like to get my AR mag out of the small of my back when I don't need it. Thanks in advance.
  5. I looked there on my Android phone and I couldn't find the CMR-w is it in there?
  6. I've been looking around for scopes for a bit and the Mark 6 by Leupold caught my eye for the 1-6x market. I know it currently has illumination problems, but I'm looking 1-2 years down the road. The reticle, lighter weight than vortex, and potential higher durability (and lower cost) that swaro led me to it. Anyways, the CMR-W 5.56 reticle looks really good to me. I know some people don't like them, but I really like the bullet drop marks for drops vs normal MIL or MOA hashes. http://www.leupold.com/reticles/illuminated-cmr-w-5.56/ It appears that Leupold calibrated it based on 855 (which I think is stupid) and I want to know how it will perform with XM193 55grain FMJ. Does anyone have this reticle? How far off are your impacts with XM193? I'm hoping the hash marks / dots will still work. If the holdover is significant, then the reticle is useless to me. I'd like the dots/hashes to still be touching the targets at 100-400 yards. I don't want to be "midway" between hashes, I want a set point I can still the gun on and hit my target with precision rather than a little fudging. I recently got an MTAC and while I don't like the giant donut circle thing, I LOVE the drop marks. I hit a 4-5" steel circle at 400 yards after simply zeroing at 100 yards. I was astonished since the 4x barely let me see it.
  7. I looked on the website and didn't see that reticle. What's it called? It does look good.
  8. I was hoping there was a hint. I may pick something up black friday if the swaro or Vortex go on sale. Maybe I'll get a tac 30 and wait a year or two.
  9. I'm in the market for a 3 gun scope, potentially the razor vortex 1 to 6. I'm not a fan of the current Reticle and I was wondering if 2014 models might have different reticle options or maybe even a lighter weight scope. Does anyone have any insights or test samples for their upcoming line?
  10. Can you elaborate about the bad reviews at all? Sorry if I'm hijacking this older thread, but it's identical to my questions.I'm making a similar decision to the OP between vortex, Swaro, and Mark 6 1-6x scopes. I'm not liking the Swarovski due to cost and inferior warranty to Vortex; I'm not familiar with Leupold's warranty. I am comfortable playing $1500 for vortex, but the $2000-2500 for Mark 6 of Swaro would hurt more if it's not worth it. I'm working a ton of overtime right now and I could torture myself by working more, so a Swaro is possible and on the table. The higher cost just deters me. The lighter Mark 6 / Swaro weight is a huge advantage for me personally since I'm not what you would call built. The Leupold CMR-W 5.56 reticule seems superior to the Vortex since it factors in wind; I don't like the Vortex reticule. I'm very happy with my Mark 4 on my .308 bolt gun. Swaro owners, is the thing rugged? The big worry for me is that the scope isn't as rugged as the Vortex for the much higher cost. The better reticule and lower weight are huge pros. I plan to cover the scope under my personal articles insurance, but I still don't want to have to deal with it breaking. Is the Leupold "wide circle" / horse shoe better than a red dot for close in fast shooting? Op did you end up buying a scope? How do you like it?
  11. Ordered the rolling thunder. I'll install the thing then try the gradual hole drilling procedure.
  12. You said you put on a Titan. Did you have to clock it at all? Did it overly gas downwards or have any weird movement at 100+ yards? I may sell the Miculek comp I just bought to a buddy and try something else after all. He tried the Miculek on his rifle and liked it (94 pre ban, unlimited features). The Miculek wasn't as loud as everyone said. With double ears under an overhang that bounced sound back I wasn't uncomfortable at all shooting or next to it. His rifle rolled down and around in a little circle at 100 yards. We tried tinkering with it (clocking), but nothing eliminated this at 100. At < 25 yards it was perfect. I also realized I'm already running the 30 cal version of the JP Bennie Cooley brake on my .300 blackout build. I like it a lot on that gun. I'd forgotten that I used one, it was during the panic and I placed so many orders earlier this year I can't keep everything straight. Since I can sell the Miculek to him for near full price, I'm back to these 4 again. SJC Titan Rolling Thunder JP Bennie Cooley brake Miculek Comp The cost between them is irrelevant to me. I'm a little concerned about dip with the Titan; I'm paranoid about that now. I'm not trying to flog a dead horse here, but input with 18" rifle gas guns would be greatly appreciated. There's a shoot the 24th that's rifle only, so I would like to figure it out by early next week. Just as a reminder I'm running Mil spec Federal XM193 55 grain in case that matters. Do the titan or thunder comps need to be clocked? I know the thunder is planned to be drilled. A comp I can mount at 12 and leave would be ideal.
  13. I did the match on the 3rd with the +2 noridc. Having 10 rather than 8 is a game changer. It allowed me to plan stages and reloads much better. I recommend it to everyone. Does anyone lightly oil the nordic spring? It sounds like my gun is having a fight with a slinky when I load / shoot it sometimes.
  14. As a relatively new competition shotguner myself I would recommend getting a gun that holds 10+1 out of the box or plan for an extension that does that. I let stock capacity affect my decision to buy an SLP (8+1) and then I bought a +2 extension anyways. If you buy some gun that's 5+1 and plan to immediately buy a 5 round extension then your options are more wide open.
  15. I installed the clays piston and shot the gun a bunch. I went to the range 3 times and shot a match yesterday. Tons of data. The gun works the vast majority of the time now. It appears to be flawless with Remington Nitro 1300FPS, I use that for matches. Pretty much anything that's 1 1/8 oz 1200 FPS+ works fine. I will say I don't trust heavy dove loads. I don't know if I got crap boxes, but I had 2 shells rip the bottoms off, one in chamber one in action. It's really amazing that ammo that barely worked before (like AA) works flawlessly now. If you plan to buy an SLP, include $80-100 to buy the Browning clays piston. I shot some 1 1/4 helice Fiocchi 1350 FPS stuff with the clay piston and the gun bucked pretty hard. I'm a bit afraid to shoot full power slugs through it. I had good results with the few low recoil slugs I had. Until I can buy a lot of slugs in bulk I'll use the bronze piston for full power slugs and if the stages are mixed, I'll use bronze piston w/ helice bird and FP slugs. 1 1/8 oz or less Clay's Piston Date Shell Brand Shell Model Shot Weight Shot Size Velocity Dram # Failures # Shells Shot Perctentage Cycled 10/26/2013 Winchester AA Super Sport Sporting Clays 1 1/8 8 1300 - 0 50 100.00% 10/26/2013 Federal Ultra clay & Field 1 1/8 6 1255 3 1/4 0 25 100.00% 10/26/2013 Remington Gun Club Target Loads 1 1/8 8 - 2 3/4 1 25 96.00% 10/26/2013 Estate Game and Target Loads 1 6 - 3 1/4 0 25 100.00% 10/26/2013 Remington Gun Club Target Loads 1 1/8 7 1/2 1200 - 0 25 100.00% 10/26/2013 Federal Field & Target Multi Purpose Load 1 1/8 7 1/2 1200 3 1 25 96.00% 10/26/2013 Remington heavy dove 1 1/8 8 1255 - 1 20 95.00% 10/26/2013 Remington Game Loads (rabbit) 1 6 1290 - 0 16 100.00% 10/26/2013 Remington Premier Nitro Sporting Clays 1 1/8 7 1/2 1300 - 0 100 100.00% 10/4/2013 Fiocchi Helice Nickel Plated 1 1/4 7 1/2 1350 - 0 8 100.00% 10/27/2013 Remington Managed Recoil Slugs 1 slug 1200 0 10 100.00% 10/27/2013 Fiocchi Low recoil aero rifled slug, 12LRSL 1 slug 1150 - 0 8 100.00% I actually enjoy my gun now and it makes the whole purchase sting a bit less. I'm still pissed at FN and their lack of disclosure. I hope my experiences at least help future buyers out so they don't get the same hassle. Ordered a +2 nordic extension for the 3 gun @ Bass River this Sunday. After that, no more shotgun matches and the lifter will get sent to C-Rums for slot cut / weld up. Hopefully that doesn't insert more gremlins into my gun. I'm running a Briley light modified choke. I think I would like a little more spread. I'm been thinking about IC, maybe even skeet. Should I get / run an IC or a skeet choke? I don't want to buy both. I think my pattern is a tad tight, but I need to be able to knock down steel at typical ranges (<30 ft). If the stage is longer I figure I could go to the LM choke and/or steel shot. I have thought about running Fiocchi spreaders with the LM choke, but I would prefer to be able to use normal bird whenever possible. I do have the IC choke that came with the gun for patterning, I just don't have enough experience to know if the IC will be able to knock down steel at 25-30 ft. I don't have easy access to steel targets.
  16. I meant to leave the weak hand glove on since I use it to grab the barrel. The strong hand one I had on for warmth and didn't think about it until I was clumsily quad loading with it on. I need to take 5 seconds to think before I step up to the line. I can say now that I've done a couple shotgun matches, having 2 more shells would be beneficial. Since I'm loading 8 almost all the time I have no safety with 8+1. If I get 1 shell out of sync I lose 3-4 seconds to get the breech loaded again. I'm looking forward to having a little safety and flexibility with the 2 extra. I'll have the nordic extension this Thursday, so I'll be ready for bass river this Sunday. I was really excited when I found out later last night that I finished 6/39.I was a few slots below a Dave E, not sure if you were 3rd or 28. I would really like to see the #1 guy's run if there are any videos. He almost halved some of my times, which were decent - pretty good. Edit: Chris at NE shooters is forwarding me the videos, so that's cool.
  17. First match with taccom quads today and 12 round tube. Fumbled a little but went pretty well. Can't imagine using quads with anythig less than a 12 tube after today.David E. The match went pretty well today. I fumbled a quad once or twice. The worst was during the blaster / rambo stage (stage 2 I think). I forgot to take off my strong hand glove and quad loading with the glove didn't work out great. Do you like the Taccom loaders? I have a friend who was eyeing them.
  18. Thanks for the responses guys. Even with the new AFB I'm in the clear legally. Dave I'll be at new Bedford Sunday if I'm not too sick from the crap going around. BTW you guys put on an awesome 3 gun match. I enjoy your club's matches a lot in general since I don't trot down a line and shoot 6 targets in a row like some places do. I wasn't sure if NB used a to the letter rule set or not. I ordered the part, so I won't have it for this weekend. I was specifically asking the question for future matches. I don't want to waste the money if no one follows the after start stipulation. There is supposed to be a multi gun on the 3rd, but details are sparce.
  19. So I started shooting 3 gun matches and I have an upcoming shotgun match. All are using uspsa rules. I saw the uspsa rules were changed at some point to say 8 shell limit at start, but more are okay after. Some shoots appear to still be adhering to the old rules. Is there a front sight magazine clarification about this? Do some clubs just tweak the official rules to limit to 8? I have an SLP with 8+1. I am thinking about getting a +2 extension to allow flexibility in reloading and allow me to put one more round in at the start of some stages. Is this worthwhile or is the +2 completely unnecessary?
  20. Jesse I know you shoot for Stag, I think I saw you in videos on their website. Didn't you take the comp off your 3g? I'm not trying to start trouble or anything, but when I see one or both of the Stag shooters using different comps shows that their team doesn't have faith in it and makes me weary. You obviously have more experience than I do and the testing comment is an exaggeration, but I believe over gassing to the extent I am experiencing is worse that muzzle rise. The results I am getting indicate that the ports are too numerous or large. Most comps have side ports, but the 3x3 on the top only don't seem to be a good design (there are some front ports). If you're going to market a rifle for 3gun and it dips very noticeably with common ammo I wouldn't ship it like that. I'd run fluid models in Solidworks and then test new prototypes until it was more effective. Hell just machining the same comp blank several different sizes may find something that works better.
  21. In response to the question above it was at roughly 20' standing. I didn't mount it up on some kind of fixture or anything and without a second shooter there is human error involved. However, since the shots were fired under similar conditions by the same user it has some value. I wasn't trying to force the gun upwards to counter the large downward force. I did support both similarly. The best I could come up with was grid paper on 8.5 x 11. I stacked 2, 1 above another. 1st shot was centered on top paper. There was a few inches between pages. 2nd shot was fired rapidly almost immediately after first. I did this with 20 rounds for a total of 10 double taps. On average the drops were significantly lower than the YHM comp. It is noteworthy that the yhm comp was on a shorter barrel and it's not 1:1, but I was blown away at how bad the dip was. When I initially had noticed the dip months ago I wasn't double tapping. When double tapping I noticed how bad it really is. I fired the same number of rounds with both guns in the same lower with similar timings. The YHM had groups that were all on the top paper, some a few inches away, but mostly together. The Stag 2nd shot was hitting the top half of the lower sheet, which was approximately 12" from the initial 1sr shot hit. Like I said before this wasn't a perfect test, but with fairly fast 55 grain xm193 the results were very apparent. If you were to shoot, slight pause then shoot again it would be better, but I was trying to simulate how I would DT a uspsa multi gun target. The 3g (which works well other than comp, I really like the trigger for fast stuff) is older and I bought it used. It may be an early gen because the samson handguard was the older style without a second set screw.
  22. Ordered the Miculek comp. I thought about messing with taps, but I just said screw it and threw it in a midway order. Now I just have to deal with the hassle of getting it permanently installed. I watched the install video. When he says to clock it at 1 o clock doe he mean 1 o clock from action to muzzle or 1 o clock looking down the barrel? I'm assuming it's 1 o clock from action to muzzle, but I want to be sure since I've got one shot at this. I decided to do a little test today. I setup grid paper @ ~20' and roughly measured the dip using XM193 with my wife's 16" upper with YHM cheapo comp compared to the 18" stag with the worst comp ever. I shot both standing with light-medium support. The dip with her's was around an inch or two. The dip with the stag 3g comp was 10-14" low depending on how quickly I shot. Absolutely unbelievable that they put this comp on the gun. I wonder if Stag even tested it.
  23. Noted. I found out someone at work has quality taps, so I am going to borrow those and try plugging 1 top hole.
  24. Fantastic! There's a guy who shoots revolver... his name starts with an M... Mc or Muc something... he's supposed to be pretty good... [and semi-auto, and shotgun, and rifle, and "pretty good" is probably insufficient to describe him] (I'm not knocking the poster, it just struck me as humorous) I didn't tie Miculek with the comp; I didn't really know his name, haha. I just think of him as the smith and wesson revolver robot because he's so good. Anyways, back to comps. I really don't like the idea of having a gun so loud it's uncomfortable for me or others. I would rather have 90% performance with something else that doesn't ruin everyone's time. I found this article on another forum: http://www.scribd.com/doc/22829784/AR15-Compensators-pt-1 I'm leaning towards Miculek comp for easy tuning and to avoid deafening myself and others. Rolling thunder is second. I narrowed comps down to the following: SJC Titan -Con: Loud. Is it louder than rolling thunder? Rolling Thunder -Con:? JP bennie cooley brake -Con:? Battle comp -Con: Over gassed for 18” rifle barrel? Miculek Comp -Con:? Is this quieter than Titan or Thunder? Surefire MB556K -Con: Loud, legal concerns. Suppressor mount is a potential concern for where I live, so it's out unless there is a plain model. I have specific concerns, some of which tie specifically to the 3g. Is the comp significantly louder than the 3g comp? In general is it incredibly loud? Have you tried it on a 18" medium / heavy barrel with rifle length gas system? Has it over gassed the gun? Someone on another forum mentioned the battlecomp 2.0 overgased an 18" rifle and caused dipping. If I over gas again I'm back at square one. Was the comp effective? Did you have to clock / adjust the comp? One final thought. I was reading the rolling thunder clocking tutorial on brownells (that I think Jesse wrote) that discussed drilling holes to vent gases. Since I would have to have a shop split the comp anyways I was toying with the idea of drilling out a smaller hole (compared to top) in the bottom of the stag 3g comp to equalize the gases up top. Is this a terrible idea? My immediate concerns are an off-center hole causing problems and where to drill it (closer to muzzle or closer to threads).
  25. I ordered that piston yesterday. I shot a multi gun event in MA on Saturday and had pretty good results. I had the heavy Fiocchi 1 1/4oz 1350 Helice stuff for 90% of the shooting. That stuff is solid with the stupid bronze piston. I ran completely out of the Fiocchi stuff and the last 5-8 shells were the Remington 1300fps nitro. When I broke the last clay of the day the last (rem) shell didn't eject and lock the bolt back. Thankfully I was done and I only had to pull the bolt before abandoning it. I've got the shotgun only match in about 3 weeks. I was about to order more $13/box Fiocchi stuff off Midway, but they wanted about $20 to ship 6-10 boxes. Factored into the per box increased cost ($4 over nitro, ~$6 over federal cheapo) with the shipping this piston will pay for itself in a match and one range trip. I was planning to wait for the FN light piston to show up, but that could be months and I only have 3 weeks. I've got a ton of data. I blew through a bunch more shells two days ago when I was prepping for the match. More data's better. The Percentages are successful cycling numbers with bronze piston, light Slip 2000 EWL on the 2 smallest ID metal parts of the piston. After I get the new piston I'll clean and lube the gun similarly, then run win AA 1300, Remington nitro, and federal cheapo to compare. When I do the comparisons I'll average in the earlier day's data to get a larger round count.
