  1. $270 match fee

$300 round trip airfare from Kansas City to Vegas non-stop on Southwest Airlines booked 6 months out.

$18 to ship 500 rounds of .38 Super

$250 for room and rental car but this was my half when split with Boz

Food can go from one extreme to the other depending on your tastes, where you eat and such. I think I spent around $100 for my food but then again I was only eating two meals a day most days. Passing out in the hotel room at 4 in the afternoon cuts down on the cost of dinner. lol

With all of that and add in the ammo I shot, right at 400 rounds, I spent about $1000.

If you shop around a bit you can find a hotel off the strip that might include breakfast for free which would save a bit. Add in a microwave in the room and a fridge and you can save a little more. But there are a few must hit eatin spots in town, Pacific Seafood Buffet on Sahara is one of them. Lunch for four including drinks was $35 and it was darned good food, not to mention on the way back to the hotel from the range!

If you are really on a tight budget there are a lot of places you can cut costs and picking where you eat will be a huge factor there.

I have started a fund for next year just in case I get a slot once more.

  2. I'd like to see a definitive statement come out of the meeting regarding distribution of the new rulebook. Will a printed copy be sent to every member? And if not, how each member of the BoD votes on the matter.

+1 on this in a huge way.

Q: You know what you call a production gun loaded with more than 10 rounds?

    A: A limited gun

Depends on when you do it. More than ten rounds before the match starts, I would go Limited, do it after the match starts and you go right to Open.

  3. I wasn't as worried about the seated starts as others on my squad were thanks to the old school CR Speed muzzle cup. Since the cup comes up over the end of the barrel it is harder to dislodge the gun than with the platform/nipple set up. Those running Ghosts or the like had to be VERY careful/start at half lock on the start or risk the dreaded walk of shame after the RO clears and reholsters the gun for you. :( That said, I was still nervous on those seated starts.

  4. 8.0 gr Longshot

124 gr Berry's Plated Double Struck

    PMC Brass

    Federal SP Primers

I need to double check the crimp but there is some.

    OAL is 1.250

    169.1 PF

5.5 inch barrel, old school STI comp and no extra holes

Ususally I can go 1000 to 2000 rounds without need for cleaning although I do every 500 to 1000 just to inspect parts and kill time.

  5. Years ago I was in a pretty bad car crash that left my back somewhat messed up. As a result I need a firm or even hard mattress to keep my back from acting up. Well when I went to the Nats this year my mattress was less than ideal and instead of going with my first thoughts I went ahead and slept on the bed. The first few mornings I had some pain but nothing I couldn't work through. Day three of the match was a whole different story. Rolled out of bed and right onto the floor, in so much pain I was on the ragged edge of crying like a three year old with a skinned knee. After a rather lengthy crawl to the shower, lots of Advil, half an hour under the hot shower, a heat pack on my back, and Icee Hot and several hours of babying my back it was getting better. The next few nights were spent sleeping on the floor. Not how I wanted to spend the second half of the Open Nats. From what I have heard if you wake up on the floor in Vegas there is usually a lot of booze, sorted stories and usually videos on YouTube involved, not for me. lol

  6. WOW!!!! I didn't realize that all that funk had built up in there.

    Mildot

Yeah, that stuff can build up quickly depending on what powder/bullet combo you are using. Thankfully most of the build up in my comp is carbon so it comes out pretty easy when needed.

  7. For those of you who shot the 2009 and 2010 Nats, which match did you think had the more challenging stages overall?

This year was WAY harder. Tons of no shoots and hard cover and most stages had both.

I think this year was tougher and more fun.

+1 I was more relaxed this year.

  8. I disagree with all the negativity posted about Berry's. I can't speak for the other brands, but I would have no hesitation loading Berry's plated...

    +1

I'm sure that some Open Division shooters may push a bullet faster than plated are supposed to go, which is about 1200fps maximum, but otherwise there is no reason to worry.

I shot them in Vegas at the Open Nationals out of my STI, Berry's 124 RN DS, made Major with a 169.2 PF. I had no problem pushing them to the 1360 FPS range and never saw a single keyhole or signs of shed plating. YMMV

  9. Is this safe with stainless steel comp with chrome finish? Is it harsh to loctite?

It will still etch stainless steel, just not as fast as it does with carbon steel. As for the LocTite, if I remember correctly it does effect it over time.

  10. Joe,

I contacted Kim at USPSA about a month ago about this and was told that USPSA is not going to provide new rule books to the membership.

    Gene Bray

Has anyone gotten any word on a date for a new printed version of the rule book to be sent out, or even if there will be one for sure? Just wondering.

    Joe W.

Personally I think they should be sending copies to the general membership.

The ro's and staff got new printed rulebooks at the nationals

In the vendors tent at Vegas the USPSA had printed copies of the updated rules book for sale, I hope they will be sending the general membership each a copy as they have in the past with any major rule book update. If the USPSA felt the need to print a new version of the rules it would seem to me that it is a major enough change to call for all members to have a copy. Just a thought. Personally, I don't have the money for all the ink it would take for me to print out my own copy nor the time it would take. If we all are supposed to follow the new rules it would be nice if we all were supplied with them, just my opinion.

  11. Glad to hear I was not the only one still loading ammo yesterday. I did ship out 500 rounds last week and it is already there but loaded a few more hundred to take with me, just to be safe.

  12. Two more hours and I head to the airport. Can't sleep to save my life so I am double and triple checking my list to make sure I don't forget anything. lol

    Joe W.

    Ditto

I just hope I don't fall asleep at dinner tonight. We are sad to report that a compeitor by the name of Joe Wilson fell asleep and suficated in a plate of seafood. He will be sadly missed from the event but his gear will be added to the prize table. :roflol:
