  1. Hello: The Grams 4mm base pad has a little more room than the Dawson "SNL". You will have to check the gauge to make sure they are legal on your mag. On STI mags you may also have to extend the ribs down some so you don't get the follower to fall over turing your mag into a salt shaker. Thanks, Eric

Eric, thanks for the heads up. With my tubes set up the way they are I have not had any issues with follower roll thankfully. As for the Grams base pads, I can't really use them at my range because it is an indoor range with concrete floors. I have tried the Grams several times, cracked every single one of them. Some of them were even cracked on the first use. I don't cringe as much when dropping a mag with a Dawson base pad but every time I ever dropped one with a Grams pad I was calling Beven the following Monday. :(

  2. The best I have been able to do is 29 rounds per mag, 28 reloadable with .38 Super. They run 100% as long as I keep them clean and check the springs every few runs. I need to try loading them with Super Comp just to see how many I can get in there. Right now I have 4 set up as follows:

    STI 170mm tubes

Grams spring and follower, spring clipped

    Dawson +1 SNL base pad

  3. I've hit 40 out of 40 in Big Bore Metallic Silhouette 2 times over several years shooting a 629 double action, 300 grain XTP bullets. I have a video of 39 out of 40, but it's borrring. I was trying to get under 1 minute total shooting time. My best time was 1 minute, 24 seconds to knock down 40 targets.

I will say I have seen Warren do this! Tried to spot for him at one match and he was hitting the fifth ram before I could spot where the bullet hit on the second one. Always a pleasure watching Warren shoot long range stuff like this.

For me, my longest with a pistol was at the 2010 KS Sectional. Hickcock Standard, two shots in four seconds from the draw at 75 yards for the first string. I had never shot the gun past 25 yards and even at that it was zeroed for indoors at 13 yards. I got both shots off in the time, one C and one M if I remember right. Hey, I at least got one hit in that time. lol I would like to try it again but without the clock. lol

  4. I've had mine for a weeks now and have been pleasantly surprised. I wish it would stay on a little longer before the Auto-Off feature kicks in.

I have to agree with you on the auto cut off, a few minutes more would be nice but for what I paid I am not going to gripe.

I got this one a couple years ago http://www.midwayusa.com/product/814722/rcbs-rangemaster-750-electronic-powder-scale-750-grain-capacity-110-volt?cm_mmc=Froogle-_-Reloading+-+Metallic+Reloading+Equipment+(Not+Presses)-_-PriceCompListing-_-814722

Never have replaced the battery leave it on for weeks. Its plugged in the wall, no need to get old letting it warm up it will weight from the get go.

I had a Frankfort Aresnal it worked ok, till it got cold then it tried to kill you, so spent a bit more and got a more reliable product. But I still have the Dillon beam scale for sanity checks.

Hope that one works out for you, it looks amazingly like the ones they sell on Ebay, with no name, and a life time warranty.

So far, so good. I have had nothing but good luck with this little scale.

  5. Many moons ago I tried to use a fellow shooter's CED. He didn't have the instructions with him and after about an hour of trying and trying and trying again I gave up, packed it up and suggested he might want to get a copy of the instruciotns. Fast foward a few years and I get my Pro Digital. Opened the box, dropped in a battery and hit the power switch. Within two minutes I had it running and able to record my shoots before I even looked at the instructions. So much more the thing can do!

  6. I had a guy tell me that Wilson 1911's are unique because "this part" pointing to the bottom of the slide in front of the dust cover, moves with the slide on his guns.

Noticing an opening, I told the guy, "Bill Wilson is really awesome, he invented the 1911, you know". "Yep", he says, if only he could be alive today to see how successfull it is".

:roflol::roflol::roflol: I haven't laughed that good all day! Thanks!

  7. I would, and have, do the same thing. Heck, many years ago I know one of the local shooters walked into a bar with his ear Dillon electronic ear muffs on because of a really loud and very bad guitar player. lol

  8. At our indoor range we are running 2 stages on a weekly basis. The last Friday of the month we run a classifier as well bumping to 3 stages. We do allow shooters to run a second gun or re-shoot with their first gun as many times as they can before we run out of time for the night. Some shooters can get in two or three runs per stage each week easily. This is kind of fun because it allows you to tackle the same stage in a different way or just try to better your first run.

  9. Just picked up a Hornady GS 1500 Electronic Scale at Cabela's and have been pretty happy with it. It does take a bit to warm up but once it is running for a few minutes and you calabrate it, it works great for me. Just wondering if anyone else has had a chance to try one yet. At the price they are asking I figured it was worth a shot, if it didn't work out well I would return it within a few days but I have had it for a few months now.

  10. The list has grown, now there are THREE things you should never do naked. Fry bacon, use power tools or shoot a USPSA stage. LOL

Are you sure about the power tools?

(Don't worry, the link is safe for work.)

ROFL That is a little different than what I was talking about.

  11. I am firmly in the group of better to have too much ammo than not enough. Shooting Open I have three or four small mags with 21 rounds each, one big stick with 29 rounds and a barney mag with one round. Tonight I was thankful for being a little over prepped for a stage. 31 round stage and started with barney round plus one small mag, going through a door at the start of the stage I shot the one paper and one steel directly in front of me and had time to do a mag change into my bigstick downloaded to 28 at that point. This leaves me with 29 rounds in the gun and 14 paper left, you can see where this is headed. Half way through the stage I had to make up a tight shot and two targets later had to make up another shot. Come down to the last array of targets and goes bang bang bang click! SECOND mag change and finish the last target.

If I had been smart I would have gone to the second array of targets on the first mag THEN done my mag change to insure I had enough rounds for extra shots if needed. Granted, both mag changes were smooth but dang it I made one more than I SHOULD have made! Just goes to show you might need more magazines than you think you will need (not to mention better stage planning is a must). :D

  12. 5-40 screws can be had, you just have to know where to look. Many moons ago I used to race RC cars and some of the cars required special screws, you got it they were 5-40s! Check your local hobby shop and you should be able to find them. I picked up a 10 pack localy for about $4 and cut them to length. When I got mine the store I went to had them in a black oxide finish as well as in stainless steel. Hope you find that your local store has them in stock but if not they should be able to order them for you. Online hobby shops are helpful for oddball screws as well. Good luck.
