  1. Kinda late to the party, been away from the game for a while...

but if it's any use to you I shoot handload 69gr SMK's out of a 18" JP supermatch and get 1/2" moa groups when I shoot like the gun is capable of.  My recipe is whatever brass I have with wolf primers and 23.8 gr of 8208.  I shoot these out to 700 yards on 3 moa targets with about a 70% hit ratio

  2. I've had plenty of people beat me with a Glock when I was shooting a 4K Infinity. It's more about the skill of the shooter than the precision of the firearm, as long as it is reasonably accurate and runs.

Exactly! We have several newer shooters in our local 3gun group who switched to 2011s shortly after starting the game. They don't have the fundamentals of pistol shooting mastered so it doesn't matter what they are using. They just spray bullets at the longer targets. I competed in the RM3G with a $800 g34 and one shot the majority of the steel targets out to 40 yards.

Get the g34, spend some money on a trigger and good sights, spend more money on ammo and practice.

  3. * Some of the rifle shooting positions were very unstable - ladders, shooting sticks etc. Yes, they are the same for everyone, not a competitive equity issue. However, such challenges may be beyond a significant number of shooters, resulting in a high number of time-outs causing the stages to run long. Maybe a few less of these more challenging shooting positions would make life easier and less stressful on the ROs trying to run the stage on schedule?

    * It seemed like every stage was uphill... is there any downhill terrain available to you at NRAWC? :roflol:

I think that props such as the sticks could be mentioned in the information that gets emailed out, i.e. target count email. The sticks could be easily duplicated at home and the choice to get familiar with them is up to the competitors.

Downhill? Like falling down the road on the way to stage 9

I disagree about knowing what the props are ahead of time. If this was the very first RM3G match and you had no information about the difficulty, then some advance notice would be good. But with the videos from previous years available to review, I knew to expect damn near any kind of unusual / unstable shooting position so my son and I practiced shooting off single posts, kitchen step stools (hey look - ladders!), and anything else we could think of. I have to admit the teepee sticks and the reverse roof top were my least favorite shooting positions. But - I hit all my targets from them and I bet that any other match I go to in the next year won't have anything more difficult.

Now I am a bit concerned as to what JJ has in mind for next year.

  4. I shot stage 2 in the middle of the 3rd day and it was hot. And I don't think the targets had backers. So seriously Rookie, you're complaining about what?

All things considered, the stages were challenging, fair and while the target presentations may not have been ideal for every shooter at all times, we each had to deal with various challenges on each stage which works to even things out. I hope to come back next year with two functioning feet and see how much difference being able to move effectively will make!

I am deeply thankful to Denise, JJ, the staff and RO's who worked their asses off to make this possible. My son and I had an awesome time at the match, got our butts kicked, and had a great week at the NRAWC.

  5. After being out of competition and training for 6 months I shot my first match a couple of weeks ago. We had a stage with lots of clays, short range knock downs, slugs, and some 20-25 yard knock downs. I made the mistake of using my Fiocchi golden pheasant loads and IC choke on the long shots. Apparently in my time off I forgot that the pattern really opens up with a higher velocity round and IC choke. Moral of the story: know what your pattern is for the high velocity shells.

  6. I had a problem with a receiver that had been cut on too deeply by a bad gun-tech. The gun has a Carbon arms tube and the nordic follower would drop into the receiver. Hadley Owens of Crucible Armament machined a follower slightly larger than the nordic and that fixed the problem. If you can't find what you need from RCI, give Hadley a shout.

  7. I don't know, that KKM target only has 4 hits that didn't touch the circle. The others had 5 and 6.

I think the real question is why is a TX Ranger messing around with a glock.

Because he can and it's a really cool Glock!! :D
