Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. GV has the final unoffical post for the Cup. If you haven't been to the NRA blog, go there. Almost up to the minute coverage of the Speed event. A Special Thank You to Tom Hughes and his NRA staff. What a great highlight for the Championship (NRA Blog). One more quick note. We shouldn't forget to thank the ROs, volunteers and those who are never seen or heard. They are the ones, for nominal reimbursment, that are out on that white gravel for three/five days. Long days too, setting up, cleaning up and then they get to take it all down. I hope everyone who was able to attend thanked them. Grant and Pawel deserve the credit for the timely posts on the GV website. Thank you.
  2. They should be on the GV website, but due to some problem they haven't been posted yet. Hopefully this evening we'll see an update. Dan
  3. This seems to be a good place to put this: When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the following: A Recovering American soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue,NW Washington ,D.C. 20307-5001 God Bless and Keep Them, at times we worry about much less important matters. Dan Nelson, Columbia, Mo.
  4. asubmoa@sbcglobal.net Andrew Barksdale holds AP matches at the Billings range. I've not been there for a while, but I'm told they are totally wireless on the mover and turners. Bill Hanna is the Guru. I think it would be worth the trip to see their setup. They are great folks. Dan
  5. The Cameron Cup was started and continues to be a low budget/award competition- John would have liked that. Thanks to the NRA, they will allow it to be a Regional event with their awards. Two free entries the the next Cup, several discounts and medallions. GV thanks them for this. As far as the "Cameron Cup" is concerned, a small committee decides who it goes to. John Cameron, as those who knew him, was truly devoted to teaching new shooters. He'd routinely stop training to help another shooter improve. In his memory and with the approval of his lovely wife Lyn GV will continue to award the Cup as it has been in the past. NRA awards will differ from the Cup presentation. We just wanted to make this clear for those who didn't know how we did this. The Cameron Cup this year went to John Lindner, MK class. We had 41 competitiors and NZ had 30. Check the combined resutls at www.greenvalleyclub.com Dan
  6. Assuming the Friday evening results are correct you can print a hard copy using the PDF format provided. That prints well, but be sure to tell the printer how many pages you want to print. I think the first 5 or 6 will give you Match X, all shooters. If you print the whole thing you'll have about 60 pages. Dan
  7. Your point is well taken Kim. The NRA does listen but it takes "some" time. Example - rules changes. We all complained about the changes two years ago and got most of those objections responded to. Time will tell. On the down side, since I routinely RO, I see little positive about being on white gravel in 90+ weather. But then again, I'm going into retirement and will let the younger folks work this out. Competitors often forget that the ROs are out there for six to ten hours a day for up to four days, getting the range ready, running the match and cleaning up when everyone else is at the hotel having a cool beverage of their choice. I wish there was a win win for everyone. ROs are poorly compensated (about a third of minimum wage/hour), but participate out of the love for the shooting sports. I consider them volunteers, not paid ROs. For what its worth, Dan
  8. Thanks Grant for the link. One can also access the "unofficial" results via the GV website. www.greenvalleyclub.com Click on results in the upper left hand corner of the home page. Grant and Pawel desverve the credits for making this happen, hope you all enjoy it. We're at about 40 hour and counting until it starts. While I'm not part of it this year I hope to keep in touch via email, like most of you. From what Grant has mailed me, there appears to be about 140 competitors. Don't know for sure and neither does Grant. Someone told Grant 190, but that may include those shooting two guns. We don't know for sure. Thanks Grant and Pawel for making this happen, Dan
  9. Thanks Brian for attaching the speadsheet. Some portions are missing, but its a good start and I appreciate your time and effort. The two attached pictures came through with only a red X in the upper left hand corner and I couldn't open them. Thanks, Dan
  10. I tried again to attach the Excel file, no go. Selected the file and it goes to the box provided, but when I click on Attach this file nothing happens. If you would Dave, email me with our Outlook or Outlook Express and I'll send it to you. You may be able to attach it. dn44mag@mchsi.com Thanks, Dan
  11. You'll have to email me directly dn44mag@mchsi.com for the results. This site won't allow me to attach the file with the results. Thanks, Dan
  12. Green Valley Rifle and Pistol Club, Columbia, Mo. had the honor on June 17th to host the first Cameron Cup in honor of John. We had the pleasure to have John and Lyn in Columbia, Mo. for a number of years. They touched a lot of people and many of you know them. They returned home to New Zealand shortly before we lost him to the Good Lord. Our NRA Regional, in his honor, had 27 competitors and we filled all the classifications for NRA awards. The fees and awards were modest which John would have wanted and a Junior received a very nice award. John would have liked that since he was always one to spend his practice time helping new shooters - especially women and juniors. I'm going to try to attach a file of our match results, last time I tried it didn't work. The results include a match in NZ which was held on a bitter winter day. Thanks Karl for adding your match results. Some X counts are missing, but that's OK. Its the thought that counts. If that doesn't work and you'd like the results please email me at dn44mag@mchsi.com As I suspected the attachment didn't make it. Not sure why the option is there. Dan
  13. Promotion? What promotion? There is none or very little so you're right on about that. "one old NRA club" that wouldn't allow drawing from the holster must have been a local rule of their Club. I assume they treated all competitive disciplines the same, that's their right to do so even though we don't aggree with it. I've had AP competitors at our local matches start from the international ready position, no big deal as there are no awards or they are minimal. The main thing is to get new competitors into the shooting sports - men, women and juniors. 22s are the best way, but the NRA, to date, offers no awards for that class even at the Cup. They do have an rimfire classification. Dan
  14. I'm all for reviving interest in the Bianchi Cup but may have missed something, maybe on another topic. You mentioned "tactical", but I have no idea what you're referring to. I run the AP discipline for GV and would like to see it prosper rather than die. I look forward to your response, Dan
  15. Just a short note to thank the 2006 competitors who used our practice range. Your time, effort and support are greatly appreciated by Green Valley Rifle and Pistol Club. I wish we'd had more ranges to offer, but as you know the City is closing in on us and gun clubs always end up on the short end. Hope to see you all next year. Dan, Sammy and Rich
