  1. Found some cheap ACT mags for the P14 from CDNN. (I'm using them in an Armscor widebody). Quality seem really good, better than the Macgar that came with it. Its tight, but I can cram 14 rounds into it. Magbody is longer than the Macgar, I think its the same length as the new model factory Para mags. Basepad is plastic. Took the baseplate of my friends new Para mag (which is also plastic) and it fit perfectly onto the ACT, so I assume Grams, Dawson or Arrodondo basepads made for P14s will fit these as well. Ran 200 rounds through it with no malfunctions and it locks the slide back. For half the price of Para mags, I'm really happy with them.

Can you measure the tube length(with a caliper) without a basepad?

  2. I have a G20 with a KKM barrel. Bought direct from KKM $165. Love shooting it. Went with Arrendondo pads with ISMI P045 springs. Works great. I only shoot factory anymore. No time to reload due to work. Functions great. I think I shoot it better than my G35.

  3. Another option over the RB stock is the Rhineland arms stock. Similar ergonomics, but quite a bit cheaper than the RB. I think I picked up my Rhineland stock for about $70. Definitely a cheaper way to practice. With a 18" bull barrel, it weighs about what my AR does except it is a little bit more muzzle heavy.

Now I am waiting for the Clark trigger stuff to come in. The stock Ruger trigger just doesn't compare to my AR's trigger.

  4. Sorry to come in so late here, but can this trigger be upgraded later with a set screw to take out the pretravel, making it a shorter pull? Reason i ask is because i shoot production now, getting my feet wet in USPSA, but later down the line would like to try open with a dot, and would maybe like a shorter trigger, without having to install a whole new one. Thanks.

Just call Charlie and talk to him. Great guy to talk to and a great product. I will definitely be purchasing from him again.

www.vanekcustom.com- his number is listed on there.

  5. As another data point, I just bought a bunch of new .40 mags with #6 followers. I ordered Arrendondo basepads. All but one will reliably load 20 rounds and function fine with factory ammo in my G35. I did need to swap out one of the supplied springs with an ISMI 140MM spring to get it to work reliably. The others worked fine.

  6. jobob:
My only complaint was that there isn't enough spring force to totally return the trigger forward, and the safety thingy wouldn't pop out of the frame, leaving the gun with the safety disengaged. Although this probably isn't a safety problem in a match, it made me uncomfortable.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has seen this. I was thinking of trying the stock 5# connector to see if it would help. Now, I am gonna try the original FP spring

    first.

Same problem here with a G20. 5lb connector didn't help. I swapped out the trigger spring for the stock one. The reset was better, but the pull was heavier. Tried calling, and could never get someone. Sent an email, and got a response that it was a competition trigger and would be ok on LAMR. I replied asking for any advice besides changing out the spring(shaving the safety tab?). Never got another response. Based on the response and no followup, I bought a Vanek drop in for my G35. Talked to Charlie on the phone for quite a while. Great guy, great product. Makes me want to try his full blown custom trigger job. Will definitely get more business from me.

  7. I plan on milling one of my carriers to lighten it once I get some time off from work. All it would take is a mill. I have wanted to play around with one to see how big of a difference it makes, but don't feel like shelling out the cash for a lightened carrier for a proof of concept. OTOH, I don't mind cutting up one of the carriers I have laying around in the parts box. I don't have a lathe so I can't duplicate the cuts on the JP. A mill will work for setting up one like the YM. Take a look at a few of the pictures of the YM lightened carriers and you will get an idea of where to make the cuts.

  8. So what is the consensus on this? Is there any value to be gained from using one of the S_I airsoft pistols for dry fire training in the hotel rooms? I too travel for weeks to months on end. When I am home I get a lot of live fire practice, but seems like I lose alot while on the road. I figure I could pack an airsoft in the checked baggage. Then again I don't want to waste time with it if I won't be gaining any benefit from it.

  9. I've been doing some internet research on this little project. I'm no gunsmith but here's what I plan to do.

I'm going to cut the 20" DPMS bull barrel down to 16". Turn it down from the gas block to the end to .750. Turn down the last 5/8" to .498 and thread it. Then turn down the under the handguard area to .850. Finally I'll open up the gas port from .625 to .700 (18mm).

I'm doing this mod first thing tomorrow morning so if it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, somebody please stop me.

If it sounds pretty good but needs some changes, please inform me.

Would 17" or 18" be better? What problems will I run into.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

I just had Wakal (Dreadnaught Industries)cut down a CMT 20" barrel to 17" before the holidays. Did a real nice job with outrageously fast turnaround. I built it up into an upper and took it out for testing. With Q3131A Nato stuff, it would lock the bolt back, but with standard pressure stuff it wouldn't. I pulled the front sight and opened the port to 0.106". Works like a charm no with anything I feed it. I thought about 16" but decided I wanted something a little longer for insurance on functioning with the rifle length gas system.

  10. I am thinking about reprofiling the barrel on one of my AR's that I want to use for 3 gun. It's currently a 20" that is .880 under the forend, and .725 in front of the gas block. Are there any disadvantages to thinning it to .750 under the forend? The guns shoots great now, but was looking to trim a little weight and make it handle a little quicker.

What are the disadvamtages? Think it will wreck the accuracy over long strings of fire? I also use it for busting praire dogs occasionally as well.

    Thanks.

  11. The more I read, the more I like the the TR21 as an optic for my AR15. What mount setup are you guys using for the accupoint on the AR15? With the eye relief that this scope has, it looks like the ARMS #38 S-EX is the only option.

What other options are there? I have read about the YHM but it seems like it has problems.

I have searched, and there is a lot of discussion of the accupoint but limited discussion of mount set ups.

    Thanks in advance.
