  1. dovetail.jpg

    A quick look at it using a basic CAD model shows you would get full cleanup if you were to have the centerline of your new dovetail 0.250" from the front of your slide. Opening at the top would be 0.260".

    Looks like you get it to work. If it doesn't you could always weld up after you try it.

  2. Just finished building this one for a BEnos forum member. He will be using it as a carry gun and for competition. It has an interchangeable breechface (Infinity slide) with breechfaces in 9mm and .40 S&W. He will use the 9mm bushing barrel for competition in IDPA and the .40 S&W bull barrel for IPSC/USPSA. Actually is has been tuned to work with the same breechface, extractor, ejector and magazines with either 9mm or .40 S&W. Depending on the load, even the same recoil spring. Took a lot of work and fidgetting to get it set-up, but now it's a pleasure to shoot. Just waiting for the engraving before the customer gets his hands on it.

    That would be my soon to arrive Xmas gift! Working with Venry has been awesome. He has come up with exactly the gun I was looking for. My concept was one gun for everything. Limited, IDPA, summer steel, and occasional CCW. I was inspired by EricW's similar idea of one gun for everything.

    Can't wait to get my hands on it. Thanks Venry! You have been great to work with.

  3. That is a good looking slide. Did you mill it or EDM(you mentioned grinding)? How was it to cut? I would imagine the tenifer would be pretty hard on tooling until you finally broke through it.

    I like the look. I could see doing something similar to the Caspian slide that I have. At least it would break up the lines.

  4. I will have to check mine when I get back home. I didn't notice this problem, but it probably is. I'll try to post pics this weekend.

    Has anyone else seen this on their frame? It would be nice if Larry from CCF would address this issue on this forum (since he already has the post about his winner's circle).

  5. The best single stack shooter at our club uses a .40 S&W Springfield Armory from the Springfield Custom shop. It has Bo-mars, fiber optic front sight (.100 or .125 depending on mood), etc etc. The holsters are Safariland. His name is Rob Leatham.

    The next bestest use:

    2) Dan Wesson .40 out of a Blade Tech hoster and mag pouches (Angus Hobdell);

    3) (although often #2) Dan Wesson .45 ACP out of Safariland holster (560) and mag pouches (me!);

    4) Springfield Armory .45 ACP out of Safariland holster and mag pouches (Mike Linn);

    5) Springfield Armory .45 ACP TRP out of Safariland holster and mag pouches (Steve Horseman)

    Notice how the better looking, more fit, more manly and less winning shooters rely on the good old .45 ACP. Before he was a wuss, Rob shot a .45 ACP as well but now he's a wuss, unable to handle the massive recoil of Winchester Whitebox 230 grain ball. Of course, I want to become a wuss too and hope to get a Dan Wesson .40.

    Notice how Safariland is the most common holster.

    I think all the guns have a Dawson fiber optic front sight although most of us prefer a thinner sight than Rob does.

    I suspect that when single stack season rolls around Rio Salado has the most competitive single stack division ANYWHERE. We don't see a lot of Kimbers at Rio - not to say that they're not good guns, we just don't see that many.

    Is Dan Wesson building a .40 now?

  6. I am wondering if the same principles of slide weight apply to the Glocks for a limited gun. I know on the S_I guns that lighter slides are goal. Do Glocks respond the same if slides are lighter? I

    ran a few timed drills (bill drills and VP)a little while back comparing a few different guns. I compared a 6" STI FF, Glock 20 w/ 40 SW barrel, Glock 35, and a CCF frame with a Caspian G35 slide w no cutout. The G20 was the fastest on the drills for me. The S_I seemed like the easiest to shoot(trigger was so much easier to work) but was 2nd in time, the CCF was next followed by the regular G35. The glocks all run WTS sights. The STI has bomars. The g20 has a RS trigger (with a couple of mods for reliability), the CCF a vanek, and the G35 is stock.

    I started wondering why the G20 turned in better times? Was it because of the heavier slide? Definitely shoots soft. Then again so did the CCF gun and it has a heavier slide as well. I recall reading that Mad Scientist used to shoot a G24 with a caspian slide with no cutout that he liked due to the increased slide weight. This seems counter to conventional wisdom for the 2011 guns. Has anyone experimented with Glocks by lightening the slide?

    Granted, I don't get a lot of time to practice with any of them, but I was interested in comparing the different platforms. I have turned in better times in the local steel match with the STI fwiw. Haven't had much time to get used to the new gun. I know it is the Indian and not the arrow ,and I need to pick one and practice. Just thought it was an interesting comparison, and started wondering about slide weight on Glocks.

  7. I have a Caspian G35 slide that I am using with a KKM barrel on my CCF SS frame. The KKM barrel cycles and fires fine. I was concerned with what appeared to be minor peening on the locking block and the barrel. The peening was not consistent with the pattern shown in the link above. There was metal displacement on the top surface of the locking block, but the gun functioned fine. Definitely no binding. So far I have only about 500 rds. through the combo.

    When I get home again, I will measure up a stock barrel and the KKM.

    As for the Caspian slide- I am unimpressed. Had to clean up the extractor slot so the extractor would move freely. Had to open up the safety plunger hole(plunger would not move freely). No debris hole as previously mentioned. One other item- it appears the hole in the breachface and/or the breachface dimensions for the striker are not quite right. I don't have as much striker tip protrusion on the Caspian slide. I have had a few light strikes that I attribute to the slide issues(I am running a lightened striker). Hopefully Lone Wolf will get the slides right.

    Eric- care to share more info on your recoil setup? Length of your washer stack? How did you determine the stack size? I like your idea a lot more than the supplied buffer setup.

  8. How long did it take him to build that "sweetheart"? I am very interested in a 9 mm like that. Maybe even a 9 mm top end to fit my Edge.

    Thanks, Buddy

    I don't recall exactly, I think it was somewhere around 6-7 months, but I believe there were extenuating circumstances in play during that time period. Didn't really affect me. I ordered while I was gone with work and it arrived before I returned. Benny was great to deal with. I specified a couple of things I wanted and let him do it his way.

    I would give him a call and check on his lead time. I don't think my wait was typical based on what I see here for delivery time(usually shorter). Although it was nice to be able to basically order and forget about it(no need to worry that the final product will turn out great).

  9. Since were sharing, here's a pic of my FF 6". Haven't gotten much time to shoot it. I did get to shoot one of the local evening steel matches with it. So far I love it.

    Very nice tri top treatment. Who did the work?

    JS

    I think thats one of Bennys latest ones.--------Larry

    Correct. It is one of Benny's TSS Fat Free guns although it doesn't have the triangle emblem. I like it- it'll shoot better than I can. I have had for a few months, just no time to really shoot it due to work.

  10. Got my 'real' magwell installed. It's not that difficult to take the bottom of the frame from 1.250" [only at its fattest point - the CCF is not parallel on the bottom] to the normal dimension of 1.150 and parallel. You can do it with a Dremel, files, and emory cloth if you want. If you use the Glock grip adapter, you will have to remove some of the rubber - look at the shape of the plastic OEM frame & you will see where the adapter is wider. Don't round off the front [like me] until you are SURE you need to do that - fit it without the adapter for starters.

    What did you use to bond the magwell to the frame?

  11. Any updates? What did KKM do to your barrel?

    I have a similar situation with the CCF Frame and a KKM barrel. I know the CCF site says to use only Glock barrels, but I couldn't see purchasing a stock barrel for the gun.

    So far no problems, but I haven't put a lot of rounds thru the gun yet.

    Is the peening only on the barrel, or is there some on the CCF frame as well?

    Slight peening on the locking block as well. I am going to monitor it and see what happens. If I get ambitious I may take some measurements and compare the factory barrel to the KKM. Haven't had time to mess with it lately.

  13. Has anyone tried the Lightning Strike on the large frame with any of the popular based pads?

    I too was interested in the NHO, but am looking at other options that might be readily available.
