  1. Thanks for the suggestions. I was trying to minimize the amount of time I'm spending with a hammer pounding targets into the ground. I dig the idea of Auto Poppers.

I have seen at least one person post pictures of short (12-18") sections of tubing that they used as targets, but I can't remember where I originally saw it (Doodie Project?). Anyone else seen this?

  2. My local club does not allow clay targets to be used on their pistol bays due to the mess that they create. I need to figure out targets that are quick to set-up, and can be used for shotgun practice. Specifically, I need to put some time on shooting and moving, and target transitions, so I need to setup 4-8 targets at a minimum.

I've seen several types of steel knock-over targets (either hinged or non-hinged), but they seem time consuming to set up when I have limited time at the range.

Can anyone suggest what they would use in these kinds of situations? Thanks.

  3. As the NH 3 Gun scene's 1301 fanboy, I've shot a 21" 1301 for the last 18 months, and liked it enough that I got a second. You can get them for US$950-1050 out the door. It's ran 100% for me, after a brief break-in period.

I quad load strong hand, and have gotten pretty aggressive with my loading port - check the attachments.

I dig it. It points well, it reliable, and shoots slugs like a laser. Hope that helps.

  4. I think a big question that hasn't been asked here; what's your budget? If you've got a meager budget, any of the plastic fantastics should treat you well, with my vote being a Springer XDm, I have one, love it, would buy another one and am thinking about doing just that. If you've got a bigger budget, 2011 is the way to go. You can find many many good deals here on BE on a nice used 2011 in one of the many variations available, with the upside of having already been broken in and tuned. Basically, parroting many of the responses, get what fits you and you can shoot well, if you have the option to try before you buy.

C'mon, we were talking about guns. Why did you have to go and bring money into this? ;)

  5. I cannot find +8 NC, MOA..etc...but I wanna run 12+1+1. I saw some pretty big shot gun stages on the 3G championships a while back...better safe & fast, than slow and low.

I learned the benefits of 12-rounds in the tube before I shot the VersaMax Shotgun match at Tarheel. I would have been screwed going in with a 9+1 capacity.

  6. Let's face it, Kriss is not doing much to support the Sphinx.

I recently got a compact, and it shoots extremely well right out of the box, but try and find extra mags, they are non existent, unless you want to modify others.

Heck, they advertised Halo sights 2 years ago, and still vapor.

Such a shame, as the product, albeit expensive, is great right out of the box. Sad, they are not doing anything to support the aftermarket.

Yep, I've given up on waiting for a Sphinx Production.

Hey Kriss USA--Look at Eagle Imports with their X-Calibur/K100 X-Trim to see how it's done. They have brought a gun that shooters are excited to run, been pretty transparent with the process, and are working to get parts and aftermarket support.

  7. Well I can only comment on my brand new sti edge out of the box simply will not run bought six brand new factory sti 140mm mags none of them work can't even load rounds into the mags the 126 mm mag appears to work but then theres the barrel take a 1.185 oal reload that drops in perfect to a case gauge will not drop in the sti barrel drop a factory 180 does not drop in gets about half way.. so my opinion sti guns from the factory are slapped together and do not function once tuned by a good gun smith then your good to go. dropping mine off to tight group firearms tomorrow for some needed loving...

if i were to do it again brazos it is...

Why not send it back to STI? I've been impressed with their warranty department thus far. warranty@stiguns.com

  8. I recently bought a STI Marauder 9mm. I have ~400 factory rounds through it, and it runs perfectly. My issue is with the magazine that was sent with the gun -- it was out of square, or something like that. It would get into a bind between the forward edge of the frame, and the rear of the magazine well. This caused it to have to be stripped out of the gun. I received an RMA from STI, and I am waiting on them to tune and return my mag.

In the interim, I have 3 other brand new STI mags, and they all drop free and don't bind up. The gun is sweet, but I'm not 100% sold on the purchase experience yet.

The plan? Shoot the snot out of it through the end of the season, and decide if it'll officially take the place as my primary competition gun. Maybe I'll report back in a month or two.

  9. All I run is 1oz 2-3/4dr 1145fps loads through my 1301. For the first few boxes, when new, I would get an occasional FTE. Since the original break-in, the gun has run flawlessly -- not a single issue. I'm not much for cleaning it either -- usually every 4-5 cases or so.

I actually take the bolt out of the carrier, wipe it down, and lube it. All you have to do is push out the firing pin retainer, pull the firing pin, and the cam pin will fall out. That lets you clean and lube the neck of the bolt and the camming surfaces.
