  1. I love my edge. I don't mind the weight of it having the full length dust cover. I've only shot two matches with it but I have no complaints. I don't think it's a bad idea to get to matches sooner then later. I had the same mindset until a buddy of mine dragged me out to a match and I had a blast and then got upset that I couldn't shoot more

Did you have to do anything to your Edge to get it ready for competition? I'm guessing it was pretty nice just out of the box, but I'm not particularly knowledgable about 1911s.

I got it used a while back, but the only thing done to it was extended mag release. I shot her the whole year just like that. Since then I've done springs and FO front sight just for my own preference. Only other thing I really want to do is slide lightening. Maybe then ill start going deeper into it. All in all though a great gun.

  2. +1 for fish oil and the barefoot shoes.

The barefoot shoes (once your body has gotten used to them) works a lot of tendons and ligaments.

I also did the 5x5 stronglift for a year plus. I never wore any protective gear. Since getting into strongman, I got a pair of rehband knee sleeves and have noticed I'm not so sore after squats in the knees. Kind of pricey at about $30-40 each depending on where you shop but worth it in my eyes. I wish I got them sooner. Good luck

  3. Hey there. Being in the army, my run has always been my worst. I'll max out push ups and sit up with time left over but my run was horrible. I found what helped me was 60/120's. sprint as fast and hard as you can for 60 seconds then walk or a slow jog (trot) for 120 seconds. I did this three times a week with a long distance slow run twice a week and my time dropped tremendously. My sprints also got better. I've recently got into strongman competitions, and with the weight gain I've found that squats may not improve my sprint or run but it keeps me from getting worse. Just my $0.02. Hope you find what works for you

  4. Welcome. I've heard nothing but great things about the sir Walter. I've even considered shooting a few matches there myself and it's a three hour drive for me. Blackwater practical shooters holds a nice event down in moyock also. Good luck shooting and great choice in gun.

  5. I went from shooting IDPA with my g17 and then went to a EDGE. I can't even look at the trusty glock the same. Matter of fact, I want to buy my second STI to replace the glock for my carry. Congrats to you. You won't be disappointed at all

    And bonglee... Great looking STI

  7. I personally just ordered a bunch of springs in different weights. I replaced my main spring to a 17# and then started at 16# for my recoil spring and fired a handful of rounds and dropped a pound and kept doin this till I felt like I had the best weight for me. I think it's more of a personal preference. Right now I have a 14# in and full length guide rod. I want to go to tungsten. Once I have more ammo ill play with it some more. All in all my advice is see what's best for you. And it doesn't hurt to have different weights at your fingertips if you decided to reload lighter or heavier. Have fun.

  8. Yea i wasn't to sure about how the loads would factor. My friend and I have been shooting pretty light so we could reload more and get more trigger time. Since we have been looking to get more serious about the sport we started loading heavier (from about a 140ish PF to a 170ish PF). No chrono has been done yet, that's strictly from the books estimated power.

  9. Thanks a bunch!!! I'll give it all a shot tomorrow. Ill make sure to bring extra ammo so I can really dial it in. Now I hope my groups are tight so I don't waste the ammo. Haha it's worth more then gold right now haha. I appreciate it again thanks

  10. So would you say it's best to zero at 25 yards (furthest I can go at my local range) and then just practice at different distances to see where my place of aim to place of impact is? Maybe get a little muscle memory going and know that if at 10 yarded pops up I may need to am slightly lower or whatever.

And them darn head shots get me a lot haha. I still have bad "new guy" habits of squeezing faster then I'm aiming.

  11. Just installed the FO front site on my STI Edge, for USPSA shooting, what is the best zero distance for me to tune her in??? I was thinking ten yards just because it's a nice round number and most shots are not much further. Maybe I've just been lucky and not had to many distance shots. The furthest I've had was two poppers at roughly 15 yards, maybe 20. Any input?

  13. Thank you for the welcome. And that's what I was thinking. I've done a handful of a local tactical style shoot, and while doing a sprint I felt my gun start to detach from the holster. After that I just looked like a fool trying to sprint with one hand on my gun haha. Thank you though. Looks like ill be looking for a more standard style holster. Hopefully this weekend I can make this one work for me

  14. Hey everyone. I have a CR Speed model a holster. I got it just because the price was right even though it's a little much for a guy going just to have fun and to shoot limited haha. But Sunday I'm going to do my first three gun and am having a hard time trying to find a straight answer if it was acceptable to use or not. I've read that it may not be a great idea depending of the stage layout, but like I said not a clear yea or no. Any advice would be great. Thanks
