  1. So I want to get into open division, but I cant really afford a name brand open gun right now. Has anybody ever turned a Rock Island Armory 9mm hicap into an open gun, or a Para p18.9? I can get either for under $1000. I was thinking of fitting a trubor barrel to whichever one I choose, putting a mount, optic and *thumb rest [generic]* and get a good trigger job done. Mags aren't a problem. Does anybody have any insights or direction for me.

  2. I have XDm's with both. A Barsto gunsmith fitted barrel and comp and a Storm Lake drop in barrel and comp. I can't tell any appreciable difference between them.

The storm lake drop in, did it require any fitting.

  3. I would want to know what barrels the gun builders are using, like Scott Springer.

Well Reshoot, Scott is using Barsto, Carver is using Storm Lake. While I understand they probably use those because they believe they are the best, NOBODY uses the EFK barrels. Is there a reason or is it just personal preference. That's really what I'm looking for, is someone who has used the EFK barrel so I can get their opinion.

  4. I have and xdm 4.5 9mm that I am going to turn into an open minor gun. I have found 3 different barrels for it: EFK, Storm Lake, and Barsto. Out of the 3 which one would be the best for the buck. Pros/cons for each and so forth.

  5. While I do understand your point of view, you have to realize something about the high profile guys. Alot of them have regular jobs. They also shoot majors almost every weekend during the busy season. So when they finish one match they have to leave and get home for work. Sometime during the week they have to make time to clean their gear, get in some practice and repack for the next match. And no, I am not a high profile or sponsored shooter.

  6. So I am going to build me a short barrel (10.5") rifle. There will eventually be a suppressor on it and it will be used for plinking and some hunting (mainly hogs). Now, what caliber should I choose. I know alot of people are going with the 300, but 223/556 ammo is a tad cheaper. I can kill a hog with either round so that's not a problem.

  7. I so badly want to chime in on the peeps who have no idea what it takes to put on this match.. I had one guy say we should do it like Florida Open and run 350 to 450 shooters and it would work because of a matrix. I do sit on the BOD and I was the one who proposed the idea for the two sign up periods. So if you want to hate, then hate me. This is the best option for our shooters. I worked out the number several different way and I will not explain it to you. The system will work. There are about 75 hard working people who work the match. Some work all week and most just work the weekend. Every If you don't like it then go find another match RO shoots the match in two day format. So when all of the great shooters show up on Friday afternoon or Saturday we are ready to give you the best match possible. We have great sponsors who come out and shoot with us on the pre match days.

This match will fill up whether you sign up or not. Until you take a week off of work, show up the Monday before the match and spend 10 hours a day building stages then sit back, shut up and just say thank you and move on.

Thank you and have a great day and I hope to see you on my stage.

  8. 2 years ago, after several local club matches, I decided I wanted to go bigger. I found a match, got approval from the wife, and signed up for my first level 2. That October I made the drive from Houston to Thibodaux for the Gator Classic, where I won High Limited unclassified and had a blast. I made it in last year and had another awesome time, though I didnt win anything having just made C class. Both times I met some wonderful people and made a few friends. THIS is why I like the match so much and will try my damndest to make it every year.
