  1. I expect that by A7/2007, after the "unload and show clear" command Rob B. will have each shooter's results superimposed on their eyeball like the HUD on an F-15. The results have been coming faster and faster with the new Palm Pilot scoring Rob has pioneered... it has been really nice for competitors these last couple of years at the Area 7 matches. It would be great if by WSXV in Bali (or the the Czech Republic, or wherever it transpires...) IPSC could try to update results in a more timely fashion for the world shooting community. Say, by the night the match finished. For many of us waiting abroad to know how our friends had done, the delay was difficult to understand.
  2. Leo, Thanks for the info. It's good to know about the need for extra corrosion protection if I go the Ti route.
  3. I'm building a Lim10 .45 with Caspian slide and frame, and trying to decide on a finish. I've done some research on the Titanium Nitride group of finishes (TiN, TiAlN, etc.), and they seem to offer an impressive combination of hardness, lubricity, and corrosion resistance. Does anyone have any practical experience with these finishes in firearm applications? How do they perform in real-world competition use? Thanks for any info.
  4. I haven't found any fiber optic sights on the market for the Sigma... but I was in the same situation with my Magnum Research Baby Eagle, and Bob Cogan from Accurate Plating and Weaponry was able to help me out with a custom-fit set of fiber optic sights. They have worked flawlessy for me, an excellent piece of work that has seen me through several area and national matches. I'm sure he would be able to help you out with your Sigma. You can find him on the web at www.apwcogan.com.
  5. I just wanted to say- from Pete G.'s post, it's obvious why he he has raised such a fine daughter. In all of my shooting experience, Julie and her teamate Dave have been the class of the shooting sports. I hope that other competitors (myslef included) can live up their example. I would also like to mention an experience I had two years ago at the Area 8 match, when the CZ rep let me handle Angus Hobdell's competition pistol, play with the trigger job, etc. CZ makes a fine product and Angus had nothing to hide. It would be nice if other competitors followed his example.
  6. Does anyone have an idea who the top five finishers were in men's and women's Standard? If the results are known in Open and Production, there must be sense of how things fell out in Standard!
  7. It seems to me that Julie acted entirely correctly in filing the arbitration as she did. The only inappropriate behaviour I've seen from this vantage point is the actions of some of Adam's associates. BTW, Julie, I was already +1 I also wanted to add that Dave Sevigny's win this year at the Lim10 nationals using a near-stock Glock, kydex holster and mag pouches against most of the top iron-sight shooters in the world with their race gear and beautifully gunsmithed STIs, SVs, etc. was a truly memborable performance and one that proved that it is the man or woman behind the gun and not the equipment that wins matches. On a brighter note, congrats to the US men's junior shooters! You guys shot an awesome match
  8. Any word on how the races in Standard and Production are shaping up? Saul's been doing a great job of keeping us up to date on the men's Open match on his Double Alpha site, but there has been a long silence on the rest of the match. Are Julie and Phil still leading in Standard? And what about the Sevigny-Tyc matchup? Any news would be great!
  9. I was talking to the Ecuadorian team at the USPSA Nationals this year, and they said they had a really talented young revolver shooter down there... is he actually giving Jerry a challenge? That would be an even harder to believe than Dave or Eric getting upset! I guess anything's possible, but that would be kinda like a law of physics getting changed...
  10. Any more news on how today's contests are shaping up? It's been great for those of us who couldn't make it down to Ecuador to get all the updates. I'm also wondering how Blake Miguez is doing...
  11. Many thanks for all the updates! It looks like some awesome contests shaping up down on the equator. Tyc is obviously one hell of a shooter- Dave has been so dominant in Production lately that it feels strange to see him trailing after two days of shooting. But if anyone can rise to the challenge, Dave will do it. And what a match in Standard! Go Phil!
  12. I was fortunate to be able to work again at the AWARE match this year. Thanks to Scott for a well organized match, and to all of the other folks who got together to make it possible. It has been fun to be a part of all the AWARE matches at GMPS, and it is great to see all the familiar faces returning as well as the new shooters who make it up to Vermont
  13. I just got Saul's Double Alpha site up and read his updates... THANKS SAUL! As always, he's providing some good commentary. I just hope the ammo situation works out for all of the shooters. Wish I was there!
  14. Any word yet on the early going? Were the ammo SNAFUS indeed worked out? Wherever the World Shoot is next held, I hope to be there- politcal problems aside, it is important to support the shooting sports around the world. I met some super guys this year at the USPSA Nationals from foreign countries, and it is great to see how shooting brings us together, whatever other differences we may have. If shooting in another country adds extra difficulty to competitors, all the more reason to go there and help show our support to IPSC and the positive contributions it brings.
  15. I just moved to Old Bridge and haven't had a chance to shoot in one of their club matches yet, but I did get to RO at one a couple of months back, and they really put on an excellent match! If you are remotely in the area, you owe it to yourself to come over and shoot at the Old Bridge club. The monthly matches are almost the equal of many area matches- very well designed and thought out.
  16. I'd definitely recommend going with a Dillon over a Lee, having owned both and nearly lost my sanity trying to make the Lee function reliably. On the other hand, it's almost worth it to own a Lee first just for the added satisfaction of smoothly cycling your first hundred rounds through the Dillon As for bullet weights, I've experimented with 115, 124, and 147 grain bullets from several suppliers, and I can honestly say that I don't find much performance difference between them- the 115s knock down steel just fine for me, and the recoil difference between 115 and 147 isn't appreciable. What is appreciable is the amount of money you'll save using 115 grain component bullets over the heavier weights- they're a lot cheaper.
  17. I talked to the folks at EAA about the Saiga, and they told me they had no intention of providing higher capacity mags for it. It's too bad, because 8 rd mags (or 10s for the 20 ga) would be a sweet setup... maybe some clever US manufacturer will step forward and fill the demand. Overall, I'd have to say there seems to be a curious lack of excitement/new product offerings so far from the industry with the AWB sunset.
  18. Looks like it was another great nationals... I think Dave Sevigny is beginning a run in Production that is going to rival TGO in Limited. I do hope they go back to the split format next year, with separate racegun and factory nationals, so I can make up for missing this year by embarassing myself TWICE! Ben A.
  19. I just finished calculating the standings for Eric, Max and JJ going into the last day with 4 stages to go for the men's open title... Eric 1546.16 with 8 stage wins Max 1502.41 with 4 stage wins (including a tie for first with JJ on stage 9- how cool is that!) JJ 1438.43 with 6 stage wins 44 points is a lot to make up against Eric, but Max is hanging close... GO ARMY!
  20. For what it's worth, and for anyone who can't access the USPSA website, I calculated the match points through the end of day 1 for the men's super squads in Limited, Open, and Production. I apologize to anyone I left out (and to the ladies)... Limited (5 stage results in) Manny 385.40 TGO 384.80, 1 stage win Voight 377.13, 1 stage win Butler 372.33, 1 stage win Travis 370.71 Phil 369.07 Todd 360.22 Blake 351.48 Seeklander 340.54 Estuardo Gomez was shooting real well too... Open (5 stage results in) JJ 399.05, 4 stage wins Max 389.32, 1 stage win Eric 379.28 Popplewell 364.88 Chris 353.58 Production (4 stage results in) Dave 346.64, 2 stage wins Angus 335.60, 2 stage wins Milionis 312.66 Olhasso 298.81 Minks 298.44 Sindelar 290.11 I hope the last two days some up soon! Wish I was there this year
