  1. Jmore, if any shooter turns around with a weapon (loaded or not), it's a self correcting problem, called a DQ. Doesn't matter what the distraction was. By the way, it's called a match, not a shoot. Yes, and thru out all dozens of years that I've been playing the games, there have been dogs, coyotes, rabbits, one time a cow, another time a sheep. The real danger is to the dog because they have no eye protection. This was a 40 cal frag in my forearm, went in about 6mm. Try digging that out of your eye. You can take your ears off at the range, but never your eyes. If anyone on my crew spots a visitor with no eye proctection or someone with a dog, we stop until they are outside of the bay.

I agree with the DQ no matter what the reason for breaking 180, but there is also no excuse for pets on a range, whether or not they're restrained. The dog owner should be kicked off if not banned from the range.

Wildlife or livestock are one thing. They're not as controllable. They're also far less likely to run up and bury their nose in your crotch while shooting a stage.

Pets should never be permitted on a range. Period. I've belonged to several private clubs and the no pets rule is usually right up there with no alcohol. Clubs/ranges have enough liability exposure without being harrassed by the humane society or PETA. Or have a round go off the range because someone stepped on Fluffys tail while shooting a string.

  2. We don't even know what that means in Tucson. Lol

Off topic, but I once took my daughter to the Chaco Canyon observatory. We somehow hit the one night of the year when viewing was closed due to thunderstorms[emoji12]
  3. It can be fun and maybe help develop some skills.

As others said, it's a game. Less than 10% of shooters I've seen compete as they carry, i.e. their actual carry gun and clothing. I doubt there's too many folks who carry a double-stack 1911 w 2 extra mags under an "I'm Carrying!!" Vest. May as well carry open.

My biggest beef w IDPA v real world is knowing where the threats are and being told exactly how to engage. It trains you to lock on to a threat vs scanning for them.

If you want to lean real-world skills, find a reputable training academy like Thunder Ranch or something.

  4. Attending my son's football & baseball games, hauling him around to practices.

He's 14 and started playing select baseball at 7.  It's tough to find time to shoot a match when your weekends are booked with tournaments.

But I'd rather watch him in a good tournament than sit 50-yard line at the Super Bowl.

  5. It's commonly taught in law enforcement to keep the ENTIRE 100% of your body below the waist under cover.  A shot-up toe may well put the good guy out of commission.  Makes sense for self-defense too, the genesis of IDPA.

Well thanks for your concern over my toe, but I value my heart/lungs just a bit more.
  6. Yeah I don't get the RWR at all, either. In a shootout, the last thing you need to worry about is saving your mags.

Fortunately, I shoot revolver so it doesn't apply to me.

Will classes be adjusted for the new 1-point down? It really makes little sense. Not that I mind, I average in the top 20% for least PDs, so it'll be an advantage to me.

The cover thing seems stupid to me as well. I can legally stand on 1 foot and stick more than half my body out, but that all-important big-toe had better not be exposed!

For revos, allow > 6, moon clips on any gun, and 9mm as its more amenable to
moon clips. Guns > 6 rounds are no bigger than their legal six-shot brethren. Take some of those needless restrictions off of revos and more people would shoot them, as they would be more competitive overall.

  7. I definitely agree with this. However, everyone does have to make a choice. That's why I was asking.

For instance, I like the Glock. Shoot it well. But always wanting to see if there's something better, I bought the CZ. It's more accurate, less felt recoil and is a nice gun!  However, after shooting both I think I could be equally as good with either.  As could everyone else.  But like I was saying something has to be the deciding factor for which a person goes with.

Leave the room, have someone hide each under a box, come back in, pick one, and shoot the hell out of it.
  8. I have a Ruger Match Champion. I did all the work on it plus a spring kit and I have a 7.5lb DA pull that will pop any primer. Needed a lot of polishing, including the chambers, but it's great so far.

I thought the MC was supposed to have. all the polishing out of the box the GP100 is lacking?
  9. Don't spend a bunch of money pimping till you try IDPA revolver and know you like it. Especially don't make any permanent mods to the gun.

To get started, a good set of grips that fill the gap between trigger guard and grip, and paint the FS.

I like three SLs on the belt and one for make ready.

If you decide to stick with the revolver after a couple matches, then start making some of the more serious mods.

    Looks like USPSA Rule

5.2.3 Unless specified in the written stage briefing, the belt carrying the holster and allied equipment must be worn during the course of fire; the belt must be worn at the waist level, which is deemed to be at the same level as the original belt loops on the lower garment. (See 5.2.3.1 for exceptions.) The belt or the inner belt or both must be either securely fixed at the waist, or secured with a minimum of three belt loops. The belt may be removed between courses of fire.

So an inner/outer belt like a Double Alpha is good, along with a Wilderness Tactical Original Instructors belt, or similar.

Where does the Wilderness Tactical fit into the scheme?  Inner belt?

I'm ramping up for USPSA and already run the WTOI in IDPA.

  11. We drop all 8 in a moon clip and it all stays on the moon clip. No hunting and searching for individual pieces of brass. Plus at major matches we get all our brass back. [emoji4]

Even running SLs, the empties get dumped in one place.

Not as convenient as moons, but still a lot easier to find than with bottom feeders.
  12. One of the guys I work with was there when this gun was found, he got to take it down and clean it, and get it ready for shipment back to the states, were it sits in the CB museum. he has some nice pictures of a few others that were found at the same time.

What is that? Husseins personal AK?

What is it about dictators and super-gaudy guns?

Model 14-2 that someone molested. However at $300 out the door I could not leave it behind. The nickel and gold plating are of decent quality, just not sure why someone would do this. Any thoughts?

It belonged to a 1970s pimp?

I would've made them throw in feather hat & velour outfit.
