  1. Having shot the match 3 times prior, one thing I missed from this years match... In years past, a lot of pro and am stages were next to one another, so the AMs could see a pro run their equivalent stage. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see a single pro shoot this year. The only pro stage that I was next to was in the pistol bays, but I was busy resetting and didn't get to watch.

And I could live without the half-size paper. :D

  2. What was the reason for the AM stage being thrown out? The pallet on the left shot up allowing later squads to shoot the plate behind in from the right side of the box instead of moving all the way to the left?

That was the exact reason. Kinda sucks, because that extra step had pretty much zero effect on how that stage went. Actually, there were a couple of easy shotgun doubles on that array if you started all the way to the left.

Those ROs worked way too hard to have it all thrown out, thanks for letting us shoot it anyway guys!!

Actually, shooting through the pallet pretty much took the no-shoot out of the picture.

  3. What was the reason for the AM stage being thrown out? The pallet on the left shot up allowing later squads to shoot the plate behind in from the right side of the box instead of moving all the way to the left?

That was the issue. I guess an earlier shooter made a big issue of it and said that it was unfair. Because of that they had to throw out the stage.

They should've just nailed the no-shoot like me.

  4. OK, I didn't have any popsicle sticks, only otter pops, so I put a thin piece of plastic .060 inches thick (less thick than a popsicle stick) under the rear most portion of the lifter on top of the 1/8 inch ledge that sticks out on the front most portion of the trigger housing frame on top of the red line I drew in the prev pic. Both springs behind the shell stop & This caused the lifter to be to high behind the shells in the tube & covered 1/3 plus of the shell tube opening and no way a shell could kick out onto the lifter and also made it much worse in cycling. What am I missing, am I adding the height in the wrong place or are we talking only needing something .005-.015 inches thick?

I've also attached some pics "not during live fire" but similar to what it looks like during live fire. I did this by slow hand cycling just to show the bolt back and lifter/shell relation. There is on pic that shows just behind the shell on the rear portion of shells stop, a small shallow sharp ledge that I'm not sure if this serves a good or bad purpose and would line up with a metal piece on the side of the trigger housing. I reattached the pic of where I think to add the extra meat and the 2 contact points affected in yellow.

That ledge does serve a purpose. I'd remove the inner latch spring, polish the latch surface, and make sure you have a mag spring long enough the do the job.

  5. Don't remove the inner spring. It will make loading the shells harder to do.

Movement of the Feed Latch (shell latch) is limited by the Feed Latch Release at the rear and by its own flex tension at the front (where the shell rim stops coming in/out of the mag tube). The 1 or 2 springs behind the latch do not affect loading the mag tube at all.

    I understand. ;)

  6. The internals look completely different to the VM, so we won't be able to rely on Benelli to supply higher-quality spare parts  . I like the sound of the locking carrier though - if it works anything like that of the Benelli Nova, it could significantly ease loading. The $895 MSRP mentioned in the article is almost half that of the VM ($1427 for the synthetic), so hopefully the street price will be very competitive.

It does not. It's locked up via a separate piece that must be manually actuated. That component also serves another purpose related to loading and unloading.

  7. Why was the decision made for a 100% random draw after the shooting started and not told to the competitors beforehand?

I was not aware that the AM prize was ever planned as being in order of finish this year. I’ve been to all 4 Pro Am matches and AFAIK the AM table has always been random draw.

Steve, in the past, the AM winner walked the prize table first. Not the case this year.

  8. The cylinders are welded, to the barrel. The few I saw with cracked welds, it was pretty obvious that the weld was cracked. Lube in the chambers forms a kind of tar, and even if the pistons come out dry, the cylinders can still be sticky with swelled carbon deposits.

Nothing is welded to that barrel.

  9. .

What do you normally do with the box your gun comes in? Would have have preferred a different sheen on the box?

There have been lots of VS competitions with damage due to the shitty packaging. I think what people are saying is that when you're spending $1300-$1600 on a shotgun it's nice to have it show up in something other than a $5 cardboard box.

While I don't have much use for a hard case for a gun that never gets broken down for transport, I can certainly agree with the expectation that the gun and its parts should be packaged securely.

  10. Ricks my friend you just have a big thumb! :-) The new carrier was 2 steps forward and 1 step back in my opinion. The new carrier in an unmodified Tactical or Field model isn't bad, but Remington cut the loading port on the Competition model further forward negating what they accomplished by de-forking and extending the new carrier.

This may be true as mine is in a Sportsman model receiver.
