  1. I'm using the 'goldish' colored ones that came with the machine (machine is pretty new). They're pretty chewed up already. Changing OAL is really painful, wonderful dies and wonderful engineering that they can be taken apart so easily for cleaning.....but adjustment wise...I've found them woefull.
  2. Man I love my 650.......but the lock rings..... They could do with some upgrading.!
  3. I've always sat to reload (Lee and Lyman turret and single presses) for the the XL650 is most definately a stand up press. My backs not the best and it's still ok standing up to use the press. Theres too much going on there for me to reload and not be able to watch it all, I can average around 14 rounds per minute.
  4. I've spent decades using a Lyman turret press for loading pistol cartridges. I'm only new to owning a Dillon 650 and the only regret I have is why the hell didn't I buy it a long time ago.
  5. Really appreciate all the feedback everyone. I've learnt one thing for certain...never change stuff before a match without thorough and extensive testing!
  6. My 10 year old Beretta 82 FS Inox which I have put through tens x of thousands of rounds without a problem acted up for me in a match. Stupidly I used Slide Glide for the first time (most likely heavy handed) a new Wolff slide spring (which was 1" longer than my factory spring???) and I decreased the COAL down a little from my recipe that has never caused me a failure to feed. Luckily I had a second Beretta on hand to use for myself and my wife to finish the days matches with, but it really through me. Now I don't know because I stupidly changed 3 things at once what the actual cause is or is it a combination of causes?
  7. Hi all and thanks for the replies. They were definately not 38 super cases, just 9mm. Still a mystery, maybe Vinogeek is onto something?
  8. Hi, As you probably are all learning I'm still pretty new to the Dillon Xl650, hence the amount of questions I've been asking. Well I have another one. Yesterday I loaded just under 1000 9mm round, it was a pretty much perfect run except for one upside down primer UNTIL about 5 cases in a row came out of the power/expander die so over belled that looking at them instantly it was so obvious. I'm talking cartoon over belled! I pulled them out, kept going and everything went back to normal.....my question is what on earth caused this over belling of these 5 or so cases so extremely?
  9. Hi, My case feeder is pretty new, today the little lever that actuates the motor via the shells in the tube has begun to get stuck so that the case feeder thinks the tube is full and it's not it's empty. Anyone had this happen before? Is there an easy fix?
  10. Don't know how or why but the dish washing detergent trick sure does work. Many thanks!
  11. Hi, I keep reading lots of uses for "used dryer sheets" can I ask do they *have* to be used? Is there some special quality that happens to them after being used in a dryer? We don't own a tumble dryer so I could only buy a packet of them from the supermarket, but they'll be new and of course not used!
  12. I have a fair bit of powder sticking to sides of my powder hopper. I've never seen this before with my 4 Lee red powder hoppers. Is it from static? Whats caused it and is there away to stop it? Thanks
  13. Any problems or can anyone forsee any problems with using lock rings with Dillon seating dies? I have a Dillon 9mm seating die that I'd like to put a lock ring on for one type of projectile and then put two other lock rings on two other lee 9mm seating dies that I have for two other types of projectiles. I'm thinking that it would be as easy as winding out one seating die and winding the next one in and with the lock ring they'd always stay set. Should this work as I think it will?
  14. I'm to shit scared to seat high primers on completed rounds
  15. Thanks for all the replies. I've just slipped a nickel plated .45 auto case over mine (perfect fit).
  16. I've seen a lot of photos and read on the internet where people have added small weights to the plastic primer tube feed follower rod either by using what looks like a .45 auto shell slid on the top of the rod or by wrapping some lead soldering wire around the top. My question is why? What problem does the addition of the small amount of weight to this rod fix?
  17. I can't find 30w oil. I can find 10W-30 oil, is this suitable?
  18. Any hints for setting up the Super Swage 600 to work with 9mm brass? Is there a special way to set it up? I will only be using it for 9mm brass (of mixed heritage) would it be worth getting the .45cal insert turned down on a lathe to accept 9mm brass as there seems to be a fair amount of slop and play on the rod that is meant to be used for 9mm. I have a lot of Norma, S K, G F L and some PMC brass that I am having trouble putting Federal primers in using the XL650 the primer pockets are really tight compared to th WIN brass that I can feel the primers go in so much easier. I would like to prepare all the brass so it's the same as the WIN brass in regards to easiness of seating primers. Is it easy to enlarge/swage the pocket to far and have primers loose? The setup instructions from Dillon weren't all that instructional, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  19. UPDATE: Yes I should have read the instructions manual......the "clutch" is now adjusted properly. Thanks SeeS Sights,
  20. As a proud new owner of a Diilon XL 650 with case feeder I have certainly drunk the blue kool-aid, but I draw the line at breast feeding it !!! LOL Thanks for the post about the clutch, I'll try adjusting it.
