  1. Oh... So there's hope that I can drill out the dimples on my 10 round .40 S&W mags I have coming with the pistol... :D

Nope, ten round .40 mags have a short body and a big plastic block for a base pad, whereas ten round 9mm mags have a full length tube with a dimple which can in fact be drilled out. However you're in luck, Exile Machine sells full cap mags to shooters in restricted states disassembled into parts kits and they recently got a shipment of TS .40 mags.

Thanks for the referral to that site!

Anyone know the length on these? I'm guessing well over 141mm and closer to 170mm?

  2. I think for now, I am going to get a CR Speed setup that can be used for both guns. In the event I want to run IDPA, I can use the Phantom in the Kydex holster I already have. From there I can get whatever else I need for whatever else I want to get into at the time.

Just wanted to make sure that the CR Speed holster would fit both the Phantom and Tac Sport, and it seems it would.

  3. I don't think you can drill out the dimples to get to full 17 round capacity in the magazines. Those 10 round mags have inverted ribs that go down the length of them that would surely effect the capacity of the mag. You might be able to drill out the dimples and get more rounds than 10 in there, but not 17 I don't think. Only Tac Sport I could find came with 10 round mags and it's on order and they're taking a long time to ship so I don't have the 10 round mags in my hands to look at. Just going by the picture. I went ahead and ordered 4 17 round mags with extended base pads to use for competition and figure I'll use the 10 round mags for practice.

I believe a Blade Tech DOH holster with the DOH portion removed is approved for IDPA. I would think you'd need to buy a different holster for each pistol unless going the CR Speed route and those aren't legal for IDPA.

For mag pouches, the CR Speed pouches are popular for USPSA and can be adjusted to fit many different mags. Not sure about those for IDPA as I don't really shoot it.

I should have mentioned the Tac Sport is in 9mm. The ribs that go down the length of the mag are there for both the 10 round version and 20 round version. I imagine they use the same magazine for the 9mm and 40, but put in those ribs for the 9mm to take up soem "slack" or space that would normally be there when using the 9mm instead of the 40...

  4. The CR Speed holster will only work in USPSA Limited, Limited 10 and Open.

No CR Sped products are legal in IDPA at the moment.

A modified Phantom and a modified Tac Sport would fall into Limited?

You can pick up just the CR speed belt ( it's 2 peices, an inner and outer that velcro together ) and the mag pouches that can be adjusted for your different magazines. But suggest holding off on the holster until you are match specific, you might be able to save some money in the process. Welcome aboard , it's a blast.

I really want to start using the Tac Sport ASAP due to it's higher mag capacity, weight, mag well, etc. What other holster's are out there for the Tac Sport that would meet the IDPA rules?

  5. Yes the CR Speed is adjustable for different guns so yo may be able to use it for both but it would require some reconfiguration between platforms. also I assume you would be running the phantom in production division and the CR Speed is not legal in that division.

    Mike

The competition I will be doing, for now, is very lax and doesn't have many rules. However, in the future, I will probably be stepping it up to IDPA or something of the sorts, in which my Phantom wouldn't make production due to the race hammer. I think it would be running in custom or modified? Don't know if the CR Speed is ok in those divisions, but if not, I can just use my regular Kydex holster if I have to...

  6. Holsters are going to be gun specific but the other gear should be universal. Look at CR Speed. Get the belt and mag pouches. The mag pouches have different inserts to fit CZ, Glock, 2011 etc..

Isn't the CR Speed WSM holster some what adjustable? From what it seems, one holster fits many different platforms? Or am I getting the wrong idea from their website?

  7. So this past Saturday I had my first taste of competitive shooting and I am HOOKED! So, I have some questions...

I just got a Kydex holster and mag pouch for my Phantom, which is the setup I was running. However, I want to get a setup for my Tac Sport in order to run that as well. BUTTTT, I want to get a rig setup that is as universal as possible, without any lack of performance due to that fact. I mainly want to be able to run my Phantom, Tac Sport, and possible a 2011 down the line.

Suggestions for a holster, mag holders and a belt that fits above criteria?

Also, for my Tac Sport, I currently only have 3 10rd mags. From looking at them and pictures of the 20rd mags, it appears the only thing stopping the 10 rounders from being standard capacity is a stamped dimple that prevents the follower from going down any further. Can these dimples simply be drilled out in order to allow the mags to load to full capacity? Anyone ever try this?

Here is a link with pics of the 10rd mags for reference of the dimples.

  8. I'm not familiar with the Cajun pin so...

What most people call a "roll pin" is a slotted spring pin, a piece of spring steel rolled in a circle with a gap between the ends. A coiled spring pin is similar but it is wrapped around itself a couple times, no gap. Looks like a snail from the side.

My phantom came with coiled spring pins all the way around.

Ok, I know what you mean now. The original is a solid pin. I did buy the Phantom used, but the pevious owner didn't say he changed anything but the hammer spring out.

There's your problem. CGW will take care of that (if they haven't already). David said he had a couple pins break out of several hundred, so he redesigned the pin to be vastly stronger. He sent me one for free. I had one of the originals that was doing fine still after 20k or more trigger pulls, and I had one that broke after 2 months. Go figger.

I'm sure David will replace it, I will get a replacement when I place my next order with him for the SRS kit and a few other goodies :)

  9. Phantom trigger pin is different than standard pin . It's like the Cajun pin but thicker.

I have the Cajun trigger pin in and after I read this I went to change the pin back to the original. Found the true issue, the Cajun pin broke in half. The original and Cajun appear to be the same diameter.

  10. use a pointed punch to spread out both sides so it doesn't move.

So while the pin is in the gun, put a larger punch on one side to hold the pin in place, then use a smaller punch and hammer it hard to attempt to spread the ends of the pin? How would you get the pin out later if need be?

  11. Hey guys,

This issue seems to be getting worse...

After a few hundred rounds, the trigger pin seems to walk out just enough to not let you use the gun in DA. It will still pull fine in SA. If I push the pin back into place, everything is fine again.

Any solutions? Slightly larger trigger pin available?

  12. Try Cajun Gun Works for a race hammer...and while you're at it, get one of his sears. David's products are top-notch!

    A-G

BTW: David has modified a Combat trigger to SA only. Now that's a cool look...and a greatly reduced reach for short fingers!

Contacted Davids as I love his products, but he doesn't have the wider hammer for the Tac Sports

  13. G34, I have a recommendation: Rather than worry about the weight of your trigger, focus on obtaining a total absence of creep and a complete suddenness in let-off. If you have those characteristics you may find it difficult (if not impossible) to tell the difference between a one-pound trigger and a three-pound trigger. Of course, you will tell the difference of a New York trigger. Bottom line: A crisp trigger is more important than a light trigger...in my opinion.

Atlas, I bet you already know this, but reducing the mass only will decrease lock time. It has nothing to do with weight of release.

    A-G

Based on my experiences, I totally agree with this! But a crisp and light trigger make it even better!

  14. Unless you got stuck with a crappy trigger, I don't think you'll benefit from a reduce power main spring. My gun came from the factory with a 1lb trigger. You can adjust the pretravel and overtravel on the trigger to get a feel very similar to a 1911. I'd play with rate on the recoil spring. My gun likes a 14lb spring, but a lot of the other guys run 11's or 12's. I like the aluminum IPSC magwell from CZC as well.

The trigger started out pretty crappy and was over 3#! It has gotten much better (it's not around 1.8#), but still I feel it needs some work. I had fired a TS 40 before buying mine, and I remember the trigger being much nicer... The break just isn't as clean as I would expect it to be. My Phantom with CGW hammer and other mods breaks much nicer. Oh, and I already have the CZC magwell too.

I've never played with recoil springs in any of my pistols. What are the benefits?

    1) When I installed the race hammer (highly recommended) I tested the resulting pull weights with hammer springs from 7.5# to 18#, I found that with my polished sear and hammer the pull weights ranged from 1#2oz to 1#10oz. I actually prefer the 18# hammer as the lighter springs made for a mush break.

    3) Is your a 9mm? The 40 doesn't use a guide rod plug.

    Yea, it's a 9mm.

I want the race hammer, but it's been out of stock for months!

I have an extra 13# hammer spring, I think I will throw it in and see how it feels

  15. As is my habit with anything, I must mod it! Already got some flat aluminum grips and a SS guide rod...So, some questions for you guys...

    1) What is the benefit of a reduced power main/hammer spring since the gun is SA only?

    2) I already got a a flat SA only trigger from CZC. Are there any DIY's on how to install it?

    3) I believe I have seen an aluminum guide rod plug, where would I find one of those?

    4) What else can I do to it? :)

    Thanks guys!

  16. You're shooting the 9mm right? Does this happen with all your mags or just one? After it jams, do you just turn over the mag and the rounds fall out? (Salt shaker)

I don't think the dimples have anything to do with it as they're below the follower at all times.

    Yes, it's a 9mm. I think I figured out what is happening.

At times, while loading, I have felt that more than 10 rounds are able to fit (I will start counting from now on). I think when this happens, the follower is allowed to pass the dimples. However, this doesn't mean I can load the entire mag. Either the the round above the follower is catching the dimples or something else is limiting it to somewhere around 11-12 rounds. So, when the follower goes below the dimples that it's not supposed to, when coming back up it can catch one of the dimples, which causes it to jam up.

    Make sense?

I don't have my mags marked, so I don't know if this is only happening with one mag. Will mark them for next time.

  17. Been having this issue since day one.

While shooting, the gun will stop feeding due the magazine getting jammed up. What appears to be happening is the follower is tilting to one side and catching a dimple that is on either side of the mag. This dimple, I believe is only on the 10rd mags as it's the dimple that limits it to 10rd.

Anyone else experience this or know a fix? Thanks in advance.

  18. What kind of ammo are you shooting? Some brands of store bought or reloads with certain powders (titegroup) are known to run hot.

All reloads. Are there any other slide stops that fit the Phantom, maybe one that is a big thicker. Wouldn't hurt if it was extended too...
