  1. New guy here but I can pass on some experience on this. If you ever owned any HK pistols you will see that the slide to frame fit is quite loose even on the Match model. Many of those same pistols will shoot 1 ragged hole at 25 yds off a rest. I have done it. As long as the barrel fits tight to the slide and sights you are good. I once got the frame mounted Scope mount for one of these pistols and the groups really opened up using a dot. I could only explain it by the looseness between the slide/barrel and the frame. I sold that mount. So my opinion is that it won't matter that much as long as slide, barrel, and sight is a tight assembly. A loose barrel, bushing, etc and your accuracy goes away fast. Cheers.
  2. Steve, is your tuned mag a 140 or a 170 ?
  3. My mags are not tuned they came from Shooters Connection and look just like the ones in the pics. I am thinking of trimming the 140 down like the 170 in the pic. Might help with ejection. One less edge for the empty to bump into !
  4. Thanks so much for the pics. They show exactly what I am talking about. See how the 170 is different ? Mine are exactly like in the pic. I just wonder if cutting down the 140 like the 170 would make them more reliable. I am running a 9mm for stteel and ejection problems are driving me to the edge..
  5. I am surprised at no responses with all that viewed the post. My question may have been confusing. Basically on STI Mag tubes in 9 mm the feed lips on the 170mm are different than on the 140mm. Just curious why the 170 has the ejection side feed lip cut down lower than on the 140mm. My concern is that I may have gotten some 140 tubes that are not cut right and may be missing a step.
  6. Just got some Missouri bullet 180 grain lead bullets in .40 cal. I would like to use WST and run these in my STI Edge. I't like to get to Major power factor if possible. I would love to see some load data for this. I was thinking about 4.8 grains WST from researching the forums here but I am not sure that will make major. Anyone doing this with WST powder, I would appreciate your comments/experience. Thanks in advance.
  7. I compared my 140 mm mags with my 170mm and noticed the feed lips are different . They are 9mm and on the 170 mm the side that is closest to the ejection port is cut down strait. On the 140s both sides look the same. I wonder why. Was the cut made to help ejection ? If so, why not do it to the 140s ? Just curios they are factory tubes and hav not been tuned.
  8. So it looks like 180 grain seems to be popular. I am thinking of trying some of Penn Bullets or Missouri hard cast lead, pretty resonable. Thoughts ?
  9. Hello, Just getting started in USPSA and have an STI Edge in .40. I was wondering what the cheapest load combination would be for .40 to make major power factor. I have a Dillon 650 and have been loading .45 using WST powder for years. Mainly lead SWCs. So do I use lead, copper ? What grain bullet and type. And what is the preferred powder for the sport. Thanks in advance !
  10. Thanks for that so in your case you profiled the ejector to the top. If my 2/3 doesn't work I will go there as a last resort. I really don't want to got to a sideways mount. I feel it limits your vision on the left side. I won't belabor the thread anymore but I may reply with my results after the weekend. Thank again to everyone that replied.
  11. I am looking at a Quinn 3 mount and a Camaron sideways mount in case it still wont work. Would those be good choices ?
  12. Thanks guys, I tuned the ejector to the Brazos pic of 1 third from the top. I need to try it. I am looking into sideways mounts since my plan is to also shoot limited, lowering the dot might help with switching back and forth. I am not sure what mount to buy yet. Can't hurt to try one I guess. I wonder how hard it will be to get those mount screws out from STI they are pretty tight ?
  13. I see that there is a Quinn 3 mount out. Would this be the best for the steelmaster ? If I can end my frustration with it, I am almost there !
  14. Thanks, I am looking at a sideways mount as a last resort. Any more suggestions on tuning the ejector or other ideas ?
  15. Thanks for that. That is how I shaped the ejector as my last attempt. I have not had a chance to try it. Do I also need to angle the side too ? I made it look like the side view in your picture but was not sure if you are suppose to also bevel the barrel side of the ejector too. The original one had the side bevel but was strait up and down and was of course not an extended ejector like the EGW.
  16. Hello my first post, greetings to all. I have been lurking here for years but now I am desparate to repair my STI Steelmaster. It seems to jam randomly with a stovepipe with the casing facing to the right. I have installed an Aftec and that seemed to fix it but it started jamming again. I just installed an EGW extended ejector leaving the end untouched but cutting underside clearance so it didn't touch the side of the bullet casing or mag to try that. It ran 200 rounds and then began to jam pretty regular. I have ten mags and they are pretty new with the correct spacers etc. as they came from STI. I don't think it is Mag related. I could use some help with tuning the ejector as it seem now the rounds are hitting the bottom of the scope mount and even the exposed part of the CMORE. I can shoot 200 rounds with out a failure then jamomatic. I now just did the angled point on the ejector putting the point one third from the top to angle it downward. Do I neeed to also cut and angle on the side of the ejector point ? I have a match coming up and will be lucky to have time to try it. I am desparate for help as the problem is elusive. Oh and the grip screws are tight. One observation is that the casings look "frosted" from the chamber after they eject. I wonder also if the barrel chamber is so tight that when it gets dirty that causes the problem. Any help is welcome, thanks !
