From a training perspective, take a class or two in order to develop a good baseline. It will help prevent bad habits, then shoot as many matches as possible.
You should always have some type of match goals when shooting in order to improve.
Shoot as many matches as you can afford. Most of all have fun and learn from others.

You can always change back to your stock tube in a matter of minutes. I would go for it.

I've been shooting my G35 instead of my G34 because of ammo reasons. It has not affected my 3 gun. I now shoot L10 in USPSA instead of production.

Larue. You can mount your red dot on the some of the Larue mounts. Not only that, you are buying a quality product.

The hammer so far. It seems its the main point of failure on the Versa Max. I would like to hear if anyone else changes other springs, firing pin etc and if so why?

If you use yards go with MOA. If you use meters use go with MILS. You can make conversions between the two or use ballistic calculators.
It just depends what you feel comfortable with. You can easily learn both.

Flying into Reagan is fine. I fly in and out of Reagan with guns and don't have any issues.

My 10" shorty with a 1:7 twist has an average of 2650 on a certain lot of M193. The average M193 lot shoots at around 2550. Yes I used A chrono.

Learn to shoot left handed. It takes a while to get used too, but if works.

18" and a 10". The 10" has an EOTech for local matches that are less than 100 meters

Don't get a rifle that uses metric magazines like the Rock River LAR 308. Its hard to find reliable magazines opposed to standard AR-10 mags.

Last year they cashed the check after the match. I completely forgot about it!

Call Troy up and send it back to them. They have excellent customer service.
I had a similar problem with my alpha rail. It had something to do with the mounting. I sent it back to Troy and they sent me a new one.

It sounds like you need to invest in good quality ear protection. Its not worth damaging your hearing.

They work, the green laser does not wort well though. Use the red laser

14.5" is not bad as long as you have a barrel twist that matches your ammo. I agree with Clutch regarding the gas system.
If all you have is a 14.5 barrel, go out and shoot it and upgrade later. I shot my 14.5" for over 8 years.

The bullet might not be crimped, therefore not ideal for semi auto.
