  1. I have a bunch of new STI 45 acp mags (126 hi-cap, and 140 mm) and on a number of them I am having feed problems with them. I have ensured the bullets are of proper length so I am ok there. What is happening is it is like the follower is dragging on the front of the magazine and not allowing the bullet nose up so that it will feed into the gun. Seems odd that it is happening on so many of the mags. I have even tried shortening the bullets (already within spec) and I am still having the problem. These are brand new mags. Suggestions?

    Thanks.

I would bet your problem is the sharp edges on the followers when new from STI. Take the mags apart and chamfer all the edges on the tops of the followers and your problems will go away. I have many of the magazines and it is a quick fix.

  2. Set the scanner so it is always on and hanging off the edge of the table. Set your scoresheets in a pile below, pick one up and drag it past the scanner. All you have to do then is enter the hits and grab the next one. Get it setup for a fluid motion and I assure you if you have more than 20 shooters it will make a big difference. Alos, be sure to use the + and * shortcut keys if you don't already. They help alot as well.

  3. I agree with the n+1 for major matches but I have found even the "cheap" $35 scanners to be very reliable.

As to "too much effort and too many walk-ons." for local match...I have found the speed gained by the labels in scoring to far outweigh the pre-work required.

To get around the hassles of walk up shooters I created a dummy match with 100 shooters all named Shooter: ____________. I then print the labels and head to the match. I hand out the appropriate labels to the shooters by shooter number on the sign up list. I then enter the shooters into EZWinscore and use the scanner to get them entered very quickly.

I do agree that major matches will benefit the most though, not only in speed but in accuracy also. With the full barcode labels the scan takes the scorekeeper to the correct shooter and stage. Now if all the people keeping score on the stages would add up the hits it would go even faster!

I am glad to have come up with the idea and thank Rob Boudrie for all the work getting the programming done.

  4. JDBraddy,

I own 4 SV's currently and LOVE them all. I also love fine Swiss watches and compare them in quality all the time.

    My suggestions are:

Get the slide slide cuts you want. This is a true custom pistol and it should look like it! My latest two are exactly like I wanted. I got blued carbon steel frames as I like the look and the fit just seems a little tighter than an all stainless gun.

My other two are stainless guns and look like:

    NewSVIRight1.jpg

Stainless is good but as these guns are VERY tight, use more lube than you think you have to. (Yes, I have galled the rails slightly on one previous SV.)

Stay away from the Scotts Grip type, get a stippled grip. The Scotts grip is great until the texture starts to wear off and it will. Sooner if you get another solvent on it.

Get yourself 4/5 SV mags and the put Grams springs and followers. They will generally all hold 20 and be reloadable. You will beed to remove the slide stop catch off to make sure it doesn't lock the slide back with 1 round still in the mags though. Nothing wrong with the SV springs and followers really, just my suggestions.

You can PM me if you have any specific questions...

  5. Come on Mr. Carmoney, left him go...my son (14) is attending as I felt this event is a very important scientific research vacation. We will be discussing mass and velocity all week! (I agree it was a poor decision by USPSA though...)

  6. I loaded a few rounds for a shooting buddy of mine who gave me all the components. He gave me some brass in a coffee can, Winchester Primers in a white Winchester box and a sqaure can of Herco. I didn't much pay attention to it until I had to figure out how to open the can. It had a pop-in pop-top to open it. Looked inside and everything looked good, smelled good so I loaded them up. When I was done, I looked down at the can and it had 11-28-69 :surprise: written on the can! I asked my buddy and he said it sure did come from 1969! Next time I saw him he was shooting those rounds just fine. I thought my IMR 4895 from 1985 was old.

  7. QUOTE(Merlin Orr @ Jul 4 2007, 10:39 PM)

Protect the kids.... physically and emotionally...as well as you can.

Try not to hate ..... it takes a very real toll on a person.

Absolutely true...she wanted to leave so seeeeeeeee ya....I don't hate my ex, I just do not care. I could care a little less but that would have me actually having to try to care less which she doesn't deserve.

  8. Well seems like you already know the kids are #1. My ex took off with my kids and was going to Georgia to see some "friends". I hopped on a plane and beat her there. She coughed up one kid real quick as he was only 13 months old and was cramping her style. 22 months, 44 flights to Atlanta, 1000's of calls to the lawyer (yes, they charge for those), 3 court appearance, and $50k later, I got my daughter.

That was 13 years ago. Worth every penny. She has bothered to see the kids exactly 2 times since. Real quality parent.

As someone else said...don't give an inch on anything. After an attempt to steal your kids she is the enemy.

Lastly, remember, no matter how good looking she is, someone, somewhere is tired of her sh!t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Well, me and my son were #3 and #4 on the list and we are rolling to Tulsa! Now I just have to fill out the school form stating why my son will be out of school for a week in September...

Reason for Absence: Pistol Shooting Tournament? I don't think our uppity school district will like that one. :surprise:

Reason for Absence: Father/Son Bonding Vacation. Sounds good to me.

  10. i ordered my dillon press today, thank you to all who posted with info. as i was wandering around the net i ran across bear creek black bullets, i assume they are like master blaster, or precision. has anyone heard/tried these?

They are very much like Precisions/MB's. I have loaded about 20k of them and they work just fine. The price is right too!

  11. Well, it seems like a long wait but I guess it has really only been a few months. Today I received the twins (SV Limited guns) for me and my 14 year old son.

    The specs:

SV Full length wide dust cover/slide.

Carbon Steel frame deep blued (I just like the two tone approach)

    Stainless Steel Slide

3 Xcelerator Flutes in the front

Panel Cut in the rear with fine serrations

AET Barrels (non-Sight-Tracker, I didn't like it as much as a classic LTD gun)

    Stainless MS Housing

    Small SV Mag Release button

TriGlide 2lb crisp clean breaking triggers

    Black Stippled Grips

Mine is the red trigger/magwell and my sons in the blue trigger magwell setup exactly as ordered.

Here is a crappy 5MP picture...I don't know if the camera is junk or I was just shaking too much from the excitement but here you go...I hope I can get them broken in before Area 4!!!

  14. Oh..I see the problem....his stance is all jacked up. I am sure he wouldn't have had the pistol fly off the freaking range :o if he would just get a little weight (pun intended) on the balls of his feet. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  15. You just got the best PC build advice you are gonna' get here Chuck. Listen to Sandoz and if need be PM him for the proper way outa' this mess. If I wanted a custom build-up on a PC system, I would listen to him.

I agree with N-Vidia being better for pure performance and that 460W just ain't enuff!

Come on guys....this is an effort to help Chuck out not have a Ford vs. Chevy debate.

For a system with a Core 2 Duo processor (which is 50% more efficient than a P4 D965) with 1 hard drive, 1 Optical drive and a single, not so power hungry video card, a quality 430W power supply is fine. Heck, a Dell XPS 210 with a very similar setup comes with a 275W power supply and I am sure Dell builds more PC's than any of us.

He also stated he really has little time to play as we keep him busy. Lastly, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty are well served by a Radeon X1950,Core 2 Duo E6600, and 2 GB of 800Mhz RAM.
