Got a set of Taylor Freelance extensions for my p226. Slapped them on some Mec-Gar 18 rounders and so far I'm getting reliable feeding at a capacity of 22+1 (9mm). I'll do some more testing and shoot a match with them this weekend as well as post some pics for anyone who is interested. My only concern is one seems a bit weak to lock the slide back reliably. Anyone else have any experience with these? I'm thinking about trying some Wolff +5% and +10% springs if they ever come back in stock.

I'm looking at it mainly from a USPSA point of view. There are a few IDPA matches around, but I've only attended one of them. It was bit shorter than a USPSA match, but there was a LOT less shooting. There are three USPSA matches here every month, so there's more opportunity there. And if I did want to shoot IDPA, I still have my 229 and 220ST (unless I sell the 220ST to help fund an X5
).I don't know anyone locally who has a 226 SSE, but the guy on my Tx Open squad who was using the X5 belongs to one of the local clubs, so I may be able to contact him and try that one out.
The other variable is that I'll be trying out a 147gr lead load in the near future, which will have a different recoil impulse than the 124gr MG load I'm using now. That difference may remove a lot of the snap I'm currently experiencing. At that point, even an alloy Elite with a stainless slide may work fine for me.
My Alloy/Carbon 226 loves my 147 Rainier reloads (127-130PF or so). Gun still has more flip that other platforms I've shot competitively (Glocks mostly) but I definitely wouldn't call it snappy. Sights seem to return flat very quickly.

Just shot a Level II this past weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if they consider the P226R to be equivalent. You could always send an email to the main office and ask about it.
I may give that a shot, are you talking the NROI office?

Always have been fascinated by Sigs and had shot them a lot more accurately than any other platform. Finally picked up my own WG p226 at a pawn shop two months ago and I've now sold all my glocks and picked up a 228 to go with my 226. I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive habit as I've already been trying to figure out which X5 may be nice to run in 3 Gun...

How odd. I had not noticed that a plain jane 226 isn't on the list, but I've been using mine for 4 years.
That is what I was noticing, have you ever run a major match this way? Wouldn't want to get bumped for some reason.

I can't directly comment on the 40 S&W versions but my experience with the G34 vs the G17L was a bit different. I would recommend handling both first as this may be a matter of user preference. As excited as I was to get my 17L as kind of a dedicated 3 gun pistol coming from a year of shooting a G34 for production I ended up disappointed. For the 17l the extra velocity was awesome, recoil was soft, but the balance seemed to be lacking compared to the G34. Going from 5.3" to 6.02" the extra sight radius didn't seem to make a huge amount of difference. Hard to explain why but the 6" slide although soft seemed to have a bit more drama in recoil. Of course I'm sure this balance issue can be negated by an aftermarket slide/extra lightening cuts or different magwells/ weighted grip plugs but that is my experience with both pistols in a fairly "stock" form. YMMV

So again I'm fairly new to Sigs. I know that I love my west german 226 and would love to expand my collection. I read a lot of bad buzz about extractors on newer Sigs and was hoping some people could chime in about what the "problem models" might be. Is the issue isolated to 9mm stainless slide guns? I've considered a classic 228 (expensive/difficult to find at the moment) or a 229 in either 9mm or 357 as possible purchases in the future.

Hello all!
So I've been a diehard Glock 34 production and ssp shooter for about two years now. I just recently picked up a barely used '86 date code Sig P226 from a pawn shop for dirt cheap. I originally bought it because of the rareness factor of the W. Germany stamp and because of the old Sigs reputation for accuracy. I never intended to compete with it but after a month or so of practice I'm finding myself shooting circles around my Glock! I know I can shoot SSP in IDPA with it no problem but I was shocked to see that the standard 226 is not on the NROI production list. This seems strange sinc they standard p220, p225, and p228 are most definitely on that list at the moment. Am I missing something here or is this pistol not production legal?

Hello! Just saying hi and signing up for the Enos boards for the first time. I'm an avid IDPA, USPSA competitor as well as a learning 3 gun shooter (doesn't take long to get addicted to multiple disciplines). The forum has always had some great information and I'm hoping I can contribute to the discussion.
