He actually recommended opening the port. Is sending me an opened gas system/barrel to try first to see how it works with my ammo

Rob is a great guy and I would follow any advice he gives. I have opened up the gas ports on all three of my Sig mpx's. If you are only doing one gun then send it to Rob to do, you can't buy the carbide bit and armory block for what Rob will do it for. As for loads I ran 147 extreme with 3.6 gr of CFE for a solid year with no problems before I opened the gas port.  You want a slower burning powder to create more gas fast burning powders like titegroup will not cycle reliably at low pf.

I'm at 12K through it now and it still runs everything. It even runs 93 PF 95 grain loads for steel as well as 124 grain loads at 145 PF. The trigger is the only thing I changed that could change cycling, I have a Hiperfire Eclipse. I do clean it very well every 1K or so including the gas system in an ultrasonic. The 308 AR chamber brush works well for cleaning out the crud in the locking lugs.

Yeah I ultrasonic the  plug and gas piston as well, works wonders after 30 minutes.

Keep shooting it. Mine ran well for the first 3000-5000 rounds. Hope you got lucky and yours continues to work! It sounds like this "Gen 3" might have a different gas system. If they do I hope it is backwards compatible w/ the gen 2's.

Man I have 12k plus on mine and it runs just fine. I have had the JP and CZ, shot almost every AR based PCC out there an nothing comes close to the Sig . Granted you must clean it every 1000 -1200 rounds but I compete with it so this is expected. I have opened up the feed ramps on my back up Sig but it took all of 15 minutes.

I put a C-More on my new JP GMR13.  I have a C-More on a 9 x 23 Race gun.  I had an issue with the lens shooting loose @ 19,000 rounds.  C-More fixed it and the gun  now had 69,000 rounds on it.

My thoughts exactly if it will hold up to an open gun the recoil impulse of a 9mm carbine is nothing.

  5. The problem with the Gen1 mags are the tapered feed lips. As long as the Bullets were Sammi spec or longer they feed just fine out of my Gen1 mags, if I was loading short out of necessity when using 147s or 105 the bullet came off the feed lip before the tip of the bullet made it into the chamber. Sammi spec 115s or 124s feed just fine out of either generation mag. Best deal I found on the Gen2 mags was through Midway, what a deal at $48.00?

  6. I am trying Bayou 105s with 3.7-3.8 of TG, haven't chroned yet but a friend is shooting the same load and he is easily making 130pf. Very soft shoooting not quite as soft as 148gr Bayou's under 3.2 of N320, but I prefer the faster cycling of the 105 load the dot seems to settle much more quickly. I have never loaded a 9mm so short, 1.05 oal but it has feed without an issue so far.

  7. I love my Sig but I am not married to it. It is overly complicated, kind of a pain to clean the piston system, and everything is expensive for this gun. It also has a short chamber that I have yet to try and ream. It isn't perfect but it has run great with the right loads. Right now I am loading 3.2-3.3gr of N320 under a 147gr bayou. I think I will end up running a 124gr bayou with cfe pistol or a similar powder, I think the extra gas that cfe provides will help give a quicker recoil impulse. I haven't seen these super cheap AR builds everyone is talking about. I have built many many ARs in multiple calibers and in my experience when you put good parts on it the budget balloons very quickly. When I priced out the parts to build a 9mm AR it came out very close to what JP is offering for their turnkey build.

  8. I have the mpx carbine and Cz scorpion, I have shot a JP and several other AR based 9mm carbines. The mpx shoots softer than all the others in my opinion. The problem is the cost of mpx, by time you put a trigger, stock, red dot, and extra magazines with extended base pads you are way north of $2000. To me the next closest in terms of softest recoil would be the Cz. The mags are cheap and outside of an extended mag release and a trigger you really don't need to spend that much money to make it a competitive platform.

  9. i have an STI edge fitted for 40 and its set for limited in USPSA. I'm getting into 3gun I was thinking about fitting a 9mm bull barrel and getting a 9 Ibs spring with it. Does that sound right and is that even a good idea?

Also, the new rule book for 3 gun stated that to make major in tac optics pistols had to be 40 at min. How strictly is that being enforced?

Yes I always run a ismi 9# spring in my 9mm Edge
