  1. To summarize the op. I came to the conclusion that I have a Zen "addiction". Match shooting is the easiest, quickest way to the Zen moments for me.

This is exactly why I shoot as well. And why I play music, too.

  2. Say you're waiting for a squad to finish up a stage. A guy on that squad breaks the 180 by a good 45 degrees. That guy's RO either doesn't see it or doesn't call it, but the RO on our squad, as well as half of our squad, all yell stop and tell the guy he's done for the day. Of course, the guy isn't exactly happy about being DQed by a bunch of bystanders.

Was DQing the guy legit? My position is that everyone's a safety officer, so yes it was.

  3. Yes, it was an L1 match.

We couldn't find a stage description. They are usually stapled to the stage somewhere, but there wasn't one on this stage, so we assumed it was shoot until you're happy.

It was just a club match, so it's not worth it to bring it up to the MD, but I'd like to know for future reference. And to know that my gaming was righteous.

  4. There was a stage this weekend that had three ports, with four paper targets in each port, and a pair of drop turners with a shared activator off in the corner.

I was shooting production, so in order to avoid a standing reload, I figured I had to avoid shooting both drop turners from the same port. So, I shot one drop turner before activating it from one port, and then I shot the activator and the second drop turner from another port. And I got two procedurals for it.

However, there was no written stage description, at least none that our squad could find. So, per 9.9.4, shooting the drop turner before activating it was legal, right?

I was pretty bummed to get the procedurals, since I mostly shoot IDPA and am slowly getting into USPSA, and I've been really looking forward to gaming a USPSA stage in a way that would be legal in USPSA but totally FTDR-worthy in IDPA.

  5. All I want to do is to put a mag well on my new M&P so I can shoot it in ESP. That's it.

The problem is, the stupid full-size 10-round restricted capacity magazines for the full size M&Ps are really just the M&P Compact magazine tubes with a giant ass floor plate to make up the difference length...

... and nobody makes base pads that can attach to these.

So, no mag well for me.

  6. Does anyone else here do transition drills with a metronome? It seems to be helping my transitions a lot.

I set up 3 scaled targets in the IDPA classifier formation and dry fire on those. 3-3-3, 2-2-2, and tactical sequence, L to R and R to L, using freestyle, SHO, and WHO.

  7. The biggest struggle for me is consistently accepting the fact that, when I am exercising visual patience and truly calling every shot, my perception of time alters and everything feels GLACIALLY slow.

Case in point: I shot a state match last weekend, and basically tanked the first 7 of 8 stages from rushing, not rehearsing enough, etc. On the last stage, I decided to focus on the mental prep, rehearsed the stage about 15-20 times, and then shot it with the goal of calling every shot. As I went through the stage, it felt like I was going in slow motion. But when I finished the stage and the SO called out the time, it turned out that I had beaten the fastest raw time of the day by about 4 seconds (15 vs. 19).

This isn't the first time I've experienced results like this, but for some reason, I still haven't gotten to the point where I can consistently trust myself and just shoot. I don't know why. It's frustrating because I have enough personal experience to know it works, but the consistency and trust still isn't there.

I've started running my mental program during dry fire and live fire practice. Hopefully this will help.

  8. I load the xtreme 147 over 3.2g of titegroup at 1.15" and get 130pf from my 5" barrel. I know guys that go as low as 2.9g at that length.

This is my exact go-to load. I also know about four or five other guys who use this same load and who worked it up independently of each other.

  9. Here are my mouse fart IDPA / USPSA minor loads using X-treme 147gr RN .356" diameter plated bullets.

All are at OAL of 1.150-1.155", using Winchester WSP primers, crimped with a Lee FCD to .377". Gun is a 5" M&P Pro.

These are the powder charges I use to get around 128-130 PF.

    Unique: 3.5gr

    Power Pistol: 3.9gr

    Titegroup: 3.2gr

    Hope this helps.

(use this load data at your own risk blah blah blah)

  10. I decap a lot of dirty brass on my 650, and sometimes my casefeed arm will stop returning all the way underneath the drop tube if the top of the casefeed arm bushing gets too dirty. I just pull the bushing out and give the top of it a very light wipe with silicone dry lube and it's good to go again.

I'm sure your press isn't dirty if it's new, but I've read that this can also be caused by tumbling media rather than dirt.

  11. I think "same targets" means target grouping.

I think the array you described is IDPA-legal, and you'd have to engage the near pair of targets in tactical sequence, and then the far pair of targets in tactical sequence.

It would be illegal if there were only two targets, one at 5 yards and one at 8 yards (unequal tactical priority), and you were asked to engage them in tactical sequence.

Someone chime in if I'm wrong, since IANAIDPAL.

  12. I decap on my 650 using a tool head with a Lee Universal Decapper.

Before I put the brass in the case feeder, I give it a few spins in a rotary media separator to get all the range dirt and rocks out, to help keep the press clean and to keep the case feeder from getting jammed up. The press still gets a little dirty, but I give it a good once over before loading ammo again.

  13. This was touched on by another thread, but i didn't want to thread jack.

Currently, before wet tumbling my brass, I decap it by running it through my 650 with a Lee Universal Decapper. It's fast, but not as fast as not decapping at all... So, I'm thinking about skipping the decapping step and just drying the hell out of the brass after tumbling in my food dehydrator.

Does anyone else do this? Will the non-decapped (capped?) brass dry reliably in the food dehydrator if I leave it in for long enough?

I've read concerns about pins being stuck in the flash hole, but I look inside the cases 100% for damage and to screen out Ammoload / IMT cases, so that won't be an issue for me.

Also, I don't really care if the primer pockets don't get cleaned.

  14. When you practice reloads try loading up your mags to capacity with dummy rounds. Will give you accurate weight and seating resistance.

    Have fun.

Thanks. I finally loaded up a couple of mags' worth of dummy rounds. These California-neutered 10 round M&P mags are especially hard to seat when full, so I'm going to need the practice.

  15. How many cartridges do you make in an average loading session? 1000

How many cartridges do you make in an average week? 1000, every other week or so

Which press do you use? Dillon XL 650 w/casefeeder

How many cartridges can you load in an hour? 700-900, if primer tubes are filled ahead of time, and not including inspection (I case gauge and inspect for primer seating 100%)

How long is your average loading session? A little over an hour

Knowing what you know now if your reloading equipment was lost or stolen what would you buy today? Dillon XL 650

  16. In SSP the Division Capacity is 10 rounds in mag. You can start with 10 plus 1 rounds, If the stage says load to division capacity, but do you have to have start with 10 plus 1 or can you start with just 10 ? I shot a match Sat. and was some just loading 10. It worked best for reloading on this stage. I was this after I shot the stage.

    Mark

That's a PE. Loaded to division capacity in SSP means 10+1.

  17. OP: Just to clarify, did he think his gun was clear, or did he purposefully clear his gun by shooting into the dirt?

Not that it matters. It's a DQ either way. I'm just wondering if he's careless or he's stupid.
