  1. My local store has the following in-stock: VLS - $619 VS - $689 700P - $799 I didn't think to ask about the TWS package. Remember, I'm a brand-new beginner & going to shoot it in basically "stock" form for a year or 2. Then if I'm still "into" this, either take the plunge & go with a Tubb 2000 or just rebarrel in .260 Remington & AICS stock. I can afford the 700P, but the finish on the metal doesn't really matter to me. Does the stock really matter that much? I'm trying to understand what I "get" for $110 more than the VS and $180 more than the VLS. I may compete in ~8 MOR side-matches a year and just "play" with it an additional 20-times/yr. Mike
  2. Any thoughts on the Remington 700P TWS? Mike
  3. I think you're right. I'm definitely leaning that way too. Just out of curiousity though -- just so I can understand it better myself. Why is the 700P preferable to the VS & VLS models? I don't mind spending the money, but I'd like to understand what I'm getting. Thank you for your time and patience. Mike
  4. Not really wanting to spend a "lot" of time building up a "custom" just yet. I'm thinking more a box-stock, factory .308 that I can compete in local 3-gun MOR side-matches with. Just a beginner. Just for fun. Hobby. Then, once I get a "feel" for all of this -- maybe after a year or two, I'd like the option of rebarreling in .260 Rem and maybe think about an AICS stock. If it helps to understand, here's my other equipment: Springfield single-stack "loaded" 1911 in .40 S&W w/SA mag-well & Trip Cobra-mags Box-stock Armalite M15A4 w/30rd Labelle mags Box-stock Remington 1100CM w/Calif. Comp. works speed-strippers I'm still figuring out what I like / don't like, and what my options are. Mike
  5. OK, got that. Remington discontinued the PSS -- do you mean the 700P? Do you have any keywords for me? I've done a LOT of searching and I'm not finding anything useful at all. OK, looks like there are ~4 in .308 to choose from now: VLS - 26" BBL, 9 3/8lbs, MSRP $725 ADL Syn - 24" BBL, 7 1/4lbs, MSRP $500 VS - 26"BBL , 9lbs, MSRP $811 P - 26" BBL, 9lbs, MSRP TBD Can you help me narrow this down to 1. If I go to my local mega-gunstore with plastic in hand, I need to know EXACTLY what to buy / order. My thinking is to buy something "good enough" to last me a year or two in box-stock form. Then if I'm still "into" this, I'll use it as a platform to build on, or start looking at the Tubb 2000. Remember, I'm a newbie. Mike
  6. OK, I'm with you. So it looks like I have 2 models to choose from (right?): 700P-DM, 26" BBL, 9lbs 700P-DM LTR, 20" BBL, 7.5lbs I'm drawn to the LTR, but I suspect the 9lb model is really where I should be. What's the "right" one to buy for beginner MOR competition? Mike
  7. That's what I'm hearing. Suggestions? I've been looking at 2 of the 700P, DM's in .308: 700P DM, 26" BBL, 9lbs (5715) 700P DM LTR, 20" BBL, 7.5lbs (5713) Which is of these is the "right" choice for a beginner at MOR matches? Mike
  8. I don't see a PSS in the current lineup.. I've been searching -- I'll try the MOR keyword. Mike
  9. The matches at my local club typically include a bolt / manual-rifle side-match. I'm a beginner and I was advised to start with a Remington Model 700. I was also told the .260 Remington caliber is the way to go. Sounds simple enough -- except the only model 700's I'm seeing on the Remington web-page are in the "Mountain Rifle" (lightweight) category. LSS / DM models. That doesn't sound like a good choice for a long-range target gun. Or is it? What should I be looking at / for? I would have thought something more like a Model 700 VLS would be more appropriate (but it's no available in .260). Thanks, Mike
  10. I ordered a single mag-pouch from Blackhawk, but it hasn't arrived yet. I shot my first match today. Tons of fun! When I got home, I immediately logged onto Brownells and ordered: 3x12ga Speed Stripper (California Comp works) 2xAR-15 Mag pouches (Blade-Tech) LULA magazine loader / unloader Mike
  11. I think I'd like to try "3-gun" -- but I really don't know a lot about it. I shoot an SA "Loaded" 1911 in .40 S&W in IPSC. I've also got a Glock-34. I recently purchased an Armalite 20" HBAR M15A4 SPR and 5 30rd Labelle USGI magazines. Just bought a Remington 1100CM tonight. So I think I have most of the guns -- but now I need the other-stuff. Should I shoot the 1911 or the Glock? How many pistol magazines should I carry? How many (and what capacity) AR magazines should I carry? How should I carry them? How many shotgun shells should I carry? How should I carry them? Need some accessories. Mike
