  1. Good evening -
I want to begin shooting ICORE and Steel Challenge matches and want to get one gun, for the time being, that will let me be competitive in both. I am setup to load 9mm and .45acp on my Dillon 550 and don't want to purchase the dies, components to load another caliber at this time. I want to purchase one of the new S&W 9mm revolvers when they become available in my area. I believe that the 8-shot, 61/2" barrel 929 would be the best, but was wondering if the 7-shot 5 " 986 would work as well. Bottom line does the extra 11/2" inch of barrel and one additional shot make a significant of a difference. I'd appreciate your comments. Dr. J

  2. Good Evening – I apologize if this is not the correct forum to post this question on, so feel free to move it if appropriate. My wife and I are going to be house hunting in Phoenix next week and while there I would like to check out places to shoot. I shoot Bullseye, Trap, and ICORE. The ideal club would have all three disciplines. The clubs/places to shoot that I’m aware of are Rio Salado, Phoenix Rod & Gun, and Ben Avery. The club I currently belong to in Missouri, has an active seniors program for lack of a better term, i.e., retired guys who get together during the week during the day and have informal Bullseye and IDPA competitions. Every club has its cliques, however, I’m looking for a club to get together with a group of guys who enjoy competing with one another, but don’t take life or themselves too seriously. Would appreciate your comments about these and other clubs, contact names would be great. Thanks, Tom

  3. Good Morning - I want to load up some light target loads to break-in, my soon to be delivered S&W JM625. I load .45 acp for bullseye competition, but this will be my first revolver. I'm using up some old bullets that I've had laying around, consequently it won't the load I settle on using. Here is the load: 200 gr. Speed swaged SWC, 4.0 gr. Bullseye, W-W primer, OAL 1.253, measurement at the case mouth .467. Are the OAL and measurement at the mouth acceptable? If possible, please include your favorite revolver loads for .45 acp. Thanks, Dr.J

  4. Good Evening - I've been a trap and bullseye up until now, but the idea of competing in ICORE competitions with a revolver looks like it would be a great change of pace and a lot of fun. I do not own a revolver, so I'm looking for suggestions regarding what to purchase. I would like a gun that would give me the flexibility to initially shoot in either Limited or Classic and possibly upgrade the gun with an optic to shoot Unlimited (My 66 year-old eyes aren't what they used to be.) I was thinking about an S&W 625 since I already load .45 acp for bullseye and would not have to purchase the reloading supplies and equipment necessary to load another caliber. I am open to other options, however. Looking ahead, what make holsters do you suggest? Looking into the future, what type of optics, e.g., Ultradot or C-More, etc. are used in the Unlimited class? Thanks in advance for your comments. Dr. J

  5. I've finally decided on purchasing a G34, but am not having any luck locating one. I've come across an almost new (I know the gun has less than 400 rounds through it) G34 with Dawson adjustable rear and fiber optic front sight for $700. The guy will sell the gun and a Comptac IDPA holster and mag holder package for around $750 -775. Do these prices sound fair? Thanks for your comments.

  6. Good afternoon gents,

I'm beginning to reload for my 9mm STI Trojan and S&W Shield and am looking suggestions for a mild cast bullet practice load. I've read other threads regarding powder selection, but none seem to furnish the information I'm looking for. I will be loading mixed brass cases, WW primers, and a 125 gr. hard cast bullet. I currently have 700-X, Titegroup, and Bullseye on hand. Will any of these powders work, if so which one, if not which powders do you recommend? I'm looking for an accurate practice load, i.e., reaching a power factor is not important. Specific load information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

    Dr.J

  7. Good Morning,

I recently purchased an S&W Shield in 9mm and want to begin loading for it. I use Titegroup to load trap loads and am wondering if it is suitable for use in the Shield. I will be using WW primers and 124 grain cast bullets. Will Titegroup work or are there are other powders better suited for use in short barrel 9s? Thanks

  8. Good Evening,

I recently purchased an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit for my G17 that has, I guess, the Glock adjustable rear sight. The gun is a blast to shoot and is pretty accurate, however, it shoots to the left.

My question is, how do I adjust the rear sight. I've heard that the rear most screw is to adjust for elevation and the screw in front of that is to adjust for windage. Is this correct? Which direction do I turn the screw to move the point of impact to the right (clockwise or counterclockwise)? While I'm at it, which direction do I move the screw to raise or lower bullet impact. I'd appreciate someone's help. Thanks

  9. A friend suggested that I try the 124 Plated Round Nose bullets (sized to .3555) made by Bulletworks.net in my stock-barreled Glock 34. I'm planning on using Titegroup powder. Has anyone used bullets by this manufacturer and, if so, were you satisfied? I'm open to alternatives. I'd appreciate your comments.

  10. I want to purchase an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit (LE 17/22) for my G34. They seem to be in high demand and short supply. Does anyone know anyone who has them in stock and has anyone dealt with an online retailer named Manventureoutpost? Thanks

  11. Good Evening,

Just got off the phone from ordering a Dillon 550 in (.45ACP dies, strong mount, aluminum roller handle, empty case tray, bullet tray, 1" wrench, and primer flipper) from Brian Enos. This will be my first progressive metallic reloading press. I've loaded shotgun shells on a MEC Grabber for quite a few years. My bench seems to be rock-solid stable. What, if any, "tricks" or suggestiong do you have to setting it up and operating it, I'd appreciate hearing about them. Thanks

  12. I recently purchased a G34 to begin competing in IDPA matches and want to install a Dawson adjustable rear and fiber-optic front sights on it. I am looking for comments from those of you who have installed sights on your Glocks. I've looked at the video of Dave Dawson installing the sights and it looks fairly straight forward. I have a vise with padded jaws, an air compressor, and degreasing solvent. Other than that what type/brand of file and punch do you recommend and where can they be purchased? Is a magnifier, similar to the type Dawson wears in the video nice to have or necessary? Is a sight pusher a need to or nice to have? I want to make sure that I know what I'm getting into and that I'm prepared to tackle the work. The $70 front and rear sight installation fee plus ~$30 shipping seems a little much, as did the 4 week turnaround time. Your comments and help are appreciated.

PS I also posted this this request in the Gunsmithing forum.

  14. I don't want to hijack this thread, but have a similar question. I want to shoot IDPA and Steel and have been trying to decide between a G34 and XDM 5.25. Which, if either maybe neither gun, would be a better choice for a guy who wants a gun that is competition ready "out of the box" as opposed to changing triggers, sights, etc.? My preference is to buy bullets to practice rather than buying gun parts. Thanks in advance for your comments.

  15. I'm planning on buying a G34 and would like to know if changing to a Sevigney front and rear sight system would disqualify me from the SSP category in GSSF events? What, if any, modifications are allowed? Thanks

  16. Picked up my first 1911, STI Trojan 9mm, yesterday and am looking for a good quality holster and mag pouches. Blade Tech and Comp Tac have packages, are they worth it or would I be better off purchasing them separately. I am not wedded to either Blade Tech or Comp Tac, what else would suggest? Thanks

  17. Picked up my first 1911 yesterday, an STI Trojan 9mm. The STI manual states "High-Quality Gun Oil (Do not use grease)." I'm confused, what lubricants do you recommend and where do you put them? I read an article by a gunsmith Grant Cummingham that recommended ATF fluid for oil and Lubriplate for grease. What are your thoughts on these lubes? Are there any "good" videos or articles showing the lubrication points? Trying not to be anal, but don't want to screw it up either. Thanks in advance.

  18. Purchased an STI Trojan 9mm from Shooters Connection. After paying for the gun, I received a call informing me that they had either good news or bad news for me, oh boy, The good news/bad news was that upon inspecting the gun prior to shipping they noticed that it had an ambi-safety that they had not been charged for and did I still want the gun for the original price. Needless to say I am very pleased with Shooters Connection.

Since this is my first 1911, what do I need to do to get it ready to shoot this weekend? Any special cleaning and lubricating tips? I plan on lubing the rails with STOS, is that satisfactory. Once again, your comments would be much appreciated. Thanks
